"We first visited the Butchers Arms a few weeks ago when we were told the oven was broken hence the slow service, as the food was excellent we decided to give them another go. On arrival we joked 'is the oven working today? ' we were assured it was. This being the case I have no idea why it took over two hours to produce a two course meal for 3 people......we were so fed up we ended up cancelling our desserts! I 'm unsure if the waiting staff are poorly organised at one point we had our table half cleared and the waitress went off to take someone else 's order, or if the kitchen is understaffed and therefore unable to produce more than one item at a time. It really is a shame as the food is amazing quality but I expect a table to be turned round in 2 hours ready for the next service. Sadly we won 't be visiting again"

Went for Sunday Lunch and was very impressed. 2 course menu £17, 3 course £20. Sufficient choices of starter, main and dessert. Food quality and quantity very good and excellent service (attentive and good humoured). A little out of the way but definitely one to go back to! View menu

Arrived at lunchtime on a Sunday needing to break the journey, so we stopped for a drink. Place is clearly more food orientated than just a drinking place but service was good . Drinks a little pricey but the real entertainment was the banter between the landlord and the waitresses

Having previously visited The Butchers Arms for Sunday Lunch, I was looking forward to going back. However, my Friday lunchtime experience was not so positive. Despite not being busy, we didn't get our food (a salad and a sandwich) until an hour after we arrived and the quality was not what was expected based on previous experience.

The food at this restaurant was subpar and took a long time to arrive. The chips tasted stale, the frozen vegetables were very hard, and the liver was mushy and inedible. The steak and burgers appeared to be broiled without any searing. Additionally, our request for no ice in our drinks was ignored. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience. View menu

Good food, comfortable and relaxing surroundings. But sadly, that 's the only good thing that can be said. Service was so slow. One side dish didn 't turn up. A complimentary dish of chips that was offered, also never turned up. Annoyingly, all evening all we could hear was constant apologies being offered to diners. We were left with the impression that that Butchers Arms had recently gone through extensive renovations, and so maybe the aforementioned issues were teething problems ?

This places was recommended to us by a friend who lives locally. We were up for wedding and wanted a lovely Sunday lunch before heading back to London. The food and service were amazing, 3 courses for £20 is incredible value. I had the pork roast and it comes highly recommended. I will make the trip from London again, it would definitely be worth the drive! Had on heart one of the best roast dinners i've ever eaten out. If I could improve one thing it would be to have salt and pepper grinders not shakers, or at least be offered ground pepper, then it would be perfection!

"We used to go to the Green Man a lot under the previous owners and thought we would give it a try again for our wedding anniversary with our children. Bit of a mistake! You can see they are trying to improve the quality of the food, which was always good anyway but poor training and terrible service really let it down tonight. So we sat at 17:30 and it was 15 mins before we were offered drinks, not a massive deal. Food order another 10 mins. Both the kids ordered burgers so I specifically asked if there was mayonnaise in the burgers and if the coleslaw was separate and was told no mayo in burger and coleslaw separate. Starter sharing mezze was OK except only 2 bits of halloumi (for 4 people) and odd tasting sandy brown coloured olives. So the burgers turn up and have coleslaw chucked on the plate right on the burgers and mayo in the buns. So they went back and “replacements” came back from the kitchen very quickly which were the same burgers just in new buns with no mayo and the coleslaw in ramekins. Then the wife’s fish and chips. Looked nice and waited for service to offer condiments however seems we are being left alone now we said about the burgers. So she starts tucking in and finds a short dark black human hair on the plate. So that gets sent back. To be fair to the chef came out and apologised that he had not put his bandana on and unfortunately one of his hairs had fallen on the plate. OK forgive that once and say thank you for apologising. However it’s the same but if fish (as the wife had picked a bit off the end) and probably the same chips. Lovely. Then we totally get left alone. The kids were enjoying the burgers but slightly over salted and the water had run out so we thought get more water so they can finish and that someone would come near, which they did but to serve the tables around us and completely ignore us, even when trying to get attention. So in the end we get up (and could totally have walked out without paying and none of the staff would have been any the wiser) that’s not us though, so we paid. Told the chap at the bar that we had to come to the bar as we had been totally ignored (him being one of the many staff fawning over the people on the tables around us) and he just said OK handed the receipt. Now was the time for an apology, maybe even some sort of discount (which most places just do regardless) but no, nothing, no apology, no discount. Not bothered about the money So I paid in full and will be extremely unlikely to (read will never) set foot in the place again as there was no attempt at apology. Happy wedding anniversary! When you book there is a question “is it a special occasion” which we put yes it was our wedding anniversary and no acknowledgment so they obviously ignore those bits on the bookings. It felt like it was very clicky, like if you are known or are loaded you get looked after. Not a place for mere mortals."
