"We, other half and I hadn 't been out since his knee replacement and we decided we 'd go to The Cockatoo to celebrate our missed Christmas, New Year and his birthday on his first day back driving, We were served by a lovely waitress (from the Borders, I think), We both had a wee yin Chicken and Vegetable Soup served with lovely French bread and butter followed by a wee yin Fish and Chips and I settled for a Big Yin deep fried Brie and Jelly. No room for dessert. Don 't be fooled by Wee Yin , they certainly aren 't WEE.I was shocked to read Absolutely DISGUSTED , we have never ever had any complaints in all the times we have visited The Cockatoo. One thing that does irritate me a little is that the same big black 4 x 4 is always parked in the closest to the door disabled space (no blue badge visible) so....... when it is busy and let 's face it a lot of Pensioners go for lunch and there 's a lot of infirmities in the elderly it can be quite a walk. There is also a Loyalty type card which gives a generous discount for repeat visits (If you remember to put it in your bag). There is a variety of places to sit some are dark, some are bright, nice seating areas beside windows. I 'm not a fan of the Conservatory, but there is a seating place to suit everyone.I think Wednesdays are going to be our trip to The Cockatoo day. Thanks to Michael for our excellent service on our last visit."

Was disappointed in the service.. Birthday party and had to ask for a forgotten meal.! Everyone else had almost finished. How hard is it to cook a burger I ask ..Had to go and ask for menu for sweets, didn't bother with coffees etc I wonder why.It wasn't as though they were busy either.. This restaurant came recommended, alas I wouldn't..

large choice and all the meals were well presented and for a pub was better than I expected, the staff were excellent and I had none of the problems some of the other reviewers had. We booked for a birthday and were asked if we had any children under 12 as under 12's are not allowed in the conservatory. I would visit again and our party of 6 were very happy and very full. I've been to the restaurant on several occasions now with my family. It is spacious and clean with a friendly atmosphere, the staff are great and the service is fast. I had the black pudding stack as a starter and steak pie for main course. My wife had the chicken caberfeigh which was a chicken breast stuffed with haggis they were beautiful! The portions were huge would really recommend this place, great restaurant.

I had never actually been to eat here before, despite having driven past it many times. However, I was glad to have finally tried it out. We were able to sit in the conservatory, which was very pleasant. The rest of the pub is fine, but a bit dark.We all enjoyed the food clean plates all round afterwards. We especially enjoyed the haggis parcels, the fish, and the burger with haggis and egg.I liked the idea of having big or small portions, and for most people the 'small ' portion would be quite enough. Will be putting it on the list of good places!

Went here for a meal last night the steak fajitas were amazing best ive ever had, but unfortunately my partners meal was not so good he had the mixed grill most things on it was good but the beef and the pork the expensive bit of the meal was not so good) when I told the waitress she apologised and told me she would let the chef know both items were tasteless as I also tried them. When receiving on bill we kinda hoped that theywould knock a little off bit not . Sucj a shame is my meal was really good my partner even told the waitress we would not be back but didnt seem to bother her . View menu

Hadn 't been for some time will not be back. Specifically requested steak to be served on a plate and not a skillet (so it wasnt over cooked) request ignored, served on a skillet no surprise over cooked. Curry served was a bhuna and was watery/tasteless. My son ordered gammon steak chips, more fat than gammon-can get better in morrisons for half the price. Waitresses complained in front of us about not knowing where their heads were all my tables running into one its so busy ...hate to see it busy as when we were there it was half capacity if your lucky! Sad to say one to avoid in future as it is well overpriced for what you get.

Went for a meal but hadn 't booked so went in and were warmly welcomed. Place was busy which was a good sign. Menu was well laid out and you got a choice of big one or small one . Once ordered we didn 't have long to wait for the meal to come. Freshly cooked and brilliant. Staff were very friendly and even though the kids were exited about the desserts the staff handled it brilliantly with smiling faces and loads of encouragement. Used to be on the main road but a new road has now made it harder to find if you don 't know the area. Well worth the visit and if we 're in the area again we 'll certainly be back. Thank you to all the friendly, efficient staff for a great meal.
