"Having eaten at the Kelly's complex numerous times throughout the years I was greatly disappointed by the food in the new restaurant the white pheasant. We decided to try a few local places before we booked a very special dinner for a family member returning home for a visit from Australia after 30 years. I'm so glad we decided to do this before booking such an important family get together. The menu is simply pretentious. It speaks of finer dining but in reality it is just the food from the same local suppliers as everywhere else plated a bit differently with an ambitious price attached. Ours starters were bland and basic, wings, brie (inedible and tasted too mature for a brie) apple chutney was tasty though. Our mains were steaks and pizza. Steaks were all decent but the cheese is exceptionally sparse on the pizza they were the worst I've had on the North Coast in a long time. I never leave food on a plate, I just love my grub too much but I did this time, much to the shock of my family Service was attenive and very pleasant. Overall, I think this has been a change for the worse, not better. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and feels warm and inviting, the staff are pleasant and friendly but they are sadly let down by the standard of food."

Absolutely horrible service from the bar staff, especially the male bar staff more interested in their phones instead of serving customers would not recommend this place to anyone!

Best Sunday lunch on the North Coast! We had a terrific tasty meal, very attentive staff, well priced and very plush surroundings. Great to see and interact with Louise and the great colleagues. Will definitely be back!

Bank holiday weekend on the Sunday night we are in the white pheasant. Have to say our food was very good. Chicken and Steak stack with the pepper sauce and salt and chilli chips. The staff were excellent Keep up the good work

Used to be a great dining experience.. But gradually getting worse. Have ate here regularly since it opened but unfortunately standards are definitely slipping. Had to return a meal and witnessed tables around us returning food. Sides coming out after mains were nearly finished , long waits for food, etc. Much better options in the town centre. Very disappointing.

We had a roast dinner for lunch. The menu was set and you could have up to 3 courses for a little extra. We stuck to one course which was £17. You had the option to choose 3 meats to add to the potatoes, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, cocktail sausages and roast potatoes. I chose the traditional turkey, ham and roast beef. Portions were perfect and service was excellent

We ate in The White Pheasant tonight to celebrate my mum’s 60th birthday were attended to immaculately by Shannon Ryan all evening. Truly faultless service. From Ryan overhearing my sister mentioning she forgot to order a bowl chips bringing it to her, to Shannon remembering my vegan dietary requirements making sure I was looked after when ordering dessert. What a credit to your team they are! Not only that but the food was impeccable the surroundings so comfortable. We will definitely be back!

I have been 3 times in last three months and each time the food and service has been fantastic. The new restaurant is lovely and beautifully designed. I had the chicken linguini for my main for the last two visits- delicious . Everyone on both occasions enjoyed their meal and the service was very efficient. Both times we were in a large group and it was a perfect venue. Particular must mention the lovely bar staff .. Matthew. Also Lorraine who was extremely attentive and Shannon the hotel manager. Fabulous hotel and a great place for a celebratory meal. Will definitely be returning !

To celebrate a significant family birthday, Lunch Sunday 13th, August, The Deerstalker was something we were all looking forward to, and it failed in so many ways Waited 20 minutes for our menus, and it wasn't even very busy The restaurant had a live singer, and the music was so loud that it was hard to have a conversation at the table It was a family lunch, yet there were no menus for the children The meal itself was awful cauliflower undercooked and barely edible, Yorkshire puddings so hard the knife could barely cut through them After the main course, we couldn't easily get a sweets menu. Just simply avoid this place. The service was dire, the food awful, and the loud singer, you couldn't...

Sunday lunch was excellent. Particularly desserts. Service great, lovely atmosphere; really enjoyed experience until ieaving and needed to use the toilet. As a wheelchair user I need room for the wheelchair. The Deerstalker does have a wheelchair accessible toilet albeit the access is via doors which are not easily opened and the toilet door is not a bifold one. I got locked in. Luckily my friend was outside waiting and quickly realised what had happened. A staff member said that the door did stick! The toilet hadn’t been cleaned and the toilet seat didn’t fit properly. There are no dedicated disabled parking spaces. Petty comments you might say. An experience which should’ve been 5* brought...
