"The Duck is a great traditional country gastropub serving modern, traditional British food. The pub has a fairly remote location in a little village about 5 miles from Canterbury. Its unassuming exterior reveals a cosy, simple yet elegant interior with scrubbed oak tables, an open fire, a beautiful garden and views across the surrounding countryside. We enjoyed a 3 course dinner here on a Saturday evening. Whilst the food was really good there were a few minor issues with our mains. We started the evening with the tempura local cod which came with a creamy and rich Durban curry mayonnaise, lime and coriander which was absolutely delicious. Then for mains we had the slow roasted pork belly with roasted carrots, carrot puree, greens, burnt apple purée and mash and the 30 day aged ribeye steak with a mixed leaf salad, truffle and parmesan fries. The presentation was excellent and the dishes were flavoursome with generous portion sizes but the steak was cooked more medium than medium rare and one of the pieces of pork was over cooked and a little dry and chewy with an impenetrable piece of crackling which was virtually impossible to cut. For dessert we enjoyed the spring berry Eton mess with raspberry sorbet washed down with a glass of Chateau Delmond Sauternes 2018 which were both superb. The staff looked stressed and were a little unfriendly at times. There were only two members of staff covering both the bar and restaurant and whilst there were only a few tables occupied they were clearly struggling. Sadly this is a reflection of the times with the hospitality industry in general struggling to find and retain staff. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meal and the fine dining experience. The menu is forward thinking and innovative and the chef is clearly very talented. The prices are very reasonable and apparently they do the best Sunday roast here for miles around which, of itself, is a great reason to return (and that we will most definitely be doing)."

The food at this pub was decent, but we had higher expectations given its high rating. The atmosphere was lacking and the waiters were formal and overly eager for us to order more. Our white wine was served too cold. Navigating the narrow lanes to get there was a bit difficult.

Wow wow wow!! Awesome service, the two lads were very accommodating and couldn’t do enough. The food was one of the best meals I have ever had. The pork belly melted in my mouth followed by a stunning rich chocolate fondant. 100% recommended!!! 5 star all day long!! Can’t wait to go back!!!

I have visited The Duck several times and have always enjoyed the food. However, during our most recent visit for Sunday lunch, we tried the Roast Beef and were disappointed to find it tough and stringy, making it unpleasant to eat. It was a shame as I had recommended the restaurant to my family, but they were all disappointed by the chewy meat.

We tried the Sunday roast lamb with all the fixings and found it to be delicious, with no complaints. However, we thought it was a bit expensive, especially considering the pub itself is not very fancy and could use some renovations, especially the garden. Nonetheless, the food was good, the service was good, and we think it's worth giving it a try.

A beautifully located pub with country charm. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to make our visit a success. The food, wow, what a treat! Beautifully presented and complements to the chef at the quality and presentation of the food. Food was hot and plentiful, lovely selection of desserts. Wine beautifully chilled. All in all, I will definitely be going back. 5 stars from me.

Gem of a country pub! Family dinner, perfect in every way! Food was delicious, service was fabulous couldn’t fault! Hard to choose from the menu. All sounded amazing. Outstanding chicken liver parfait, braised beef on toast. Hake, lamb and 1Kg rib Beef , Parmesan truffle fries to die for! All devoured. Even fitted in room for dessert. Or should I say inhaled. The guys are doing an amazing job. Highly recommend.

Arrived to a very loud and noisy bar to find out our table was next to the door, across from the bar and next to noisy drinkers. We waited 15 mins for a drink although the drinkers at the bar where served ahead of our drinks order.....we knew then we had made a mistake! The food was excellent we both cleared our plate but atmosphere, service and attention to detail was lacking. Would not return in the immediate future.

We visited in 2022 with friends and on arrival were told the pub was shut due to a power outage….although suspiciously the lights were still on. Still hopeful I booked again in June 2023 as part of a hiking holiday. Booked last weekend, received a chasing email yesterday to confirm and they even took a deposit. 5 hrs before our booking we received an email saying our booking had been cancelled. No courtesy call or anything. I called them and they didn’t answer but upon chasing they responded that the pub had been shut for months on a Wednesday, they hadn’t updated their website or their booking system so we’re not opening. So frustrated as we had walked 13 miles to get here and organised our...
