"The Fox inn is situated on a bend in Great Ryton, just minutes walk away from where we were staying. The owners really couldn’t do any more to avoid any spread of Covid as there are sanitisers and signage as well as floor markings and...of course, table service much to the sarcastic delight of the wonderful curmudgeonly landlord who greeted us. The menu includes vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options and it reliably informs the reader that an allergen listing is available on request, so all bases are surely covered there. Spicy pork bites as a starter which was served in a sticky honey and soy glaze. Tasty but rather messy. For mains we opted for the vegetarian platter and rack of ribs. Be prepared as the vegetarian platter is basically deep fried. Garlic mushrooms, chips, chilli beer battered halloumi fingers with garlic bread a small olive feta bowl. All tasty but a bit of salad would’ve been welcomed. The rack of ribs were “fall off the bone meaty” served with red slaw and chips. Interestingly enough this dish came with a small side salad, when it wasn’t really needed. Also, rather much needed a finger cleansing bowl and extra napkins, which we thought was a nice touch. Not being put off by the huge amount of calories we’d obviously already imbibed, we chose the Bakewell tart and ice cream and a salted caramel and fudge ice cream sundae. Beware! The sundaes are huge but then at they should be, though worth every sweet mouthful!"

Funerals are difficult occasions even in normal times. However, John and Sue not only provided excellent food but also ensured that all the guests were kept safe, socially distanced and compliant to the current regulations in a sympathetic manner.

The Sunday lunch is to be highly recommended. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone was very welcoming. Save enough room for dessert as they are a must. The warm carrot cake was beautiful. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon spent at The Fox.

I absolutely love The Fox, which recently changed hands. The food is homemade and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend the hüttenpis, fish, and chili con carne! We will definitely be trying the rest of the menu. Bez and Henny are lovely, welcoming hosts who are very attentive. They even welcome children and dogs! We haven't tried the quiz night yet, but we hear it's very popular.

We were delighted to be picked up and dropped off at this cozy inn by the charming female owners, and warmly welcomed by their staff. The kitchen had recently been renovated and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious homemade burgers and seafood platter. It was a truly enjoyable experience at a quaint pub where customers are valued and treated like family. This made our evening much more enjoyable as we didn't have to worry about driving after having a few drinks.

fantastic pub. at an absolutely dazzling hot day we called with dogs and were invited by the renter to sit inside. it is obvious that the owners have a lot of care and attention in taking the pub. the beer is excellent, well kept...can recommend the red Fox-Ale. we had a meal and it was homemade and delicious. the owners are friendly and nice to chat. I wish them every success, although with their current formula I can see that they will be busy all year round! will be next time in the city.

We were closed to the restaurant we originally wanted to go to, so this pub was suggested to us and it turned out to be a hidden gem. The beers on tap were fantastic and the food was amazing. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and everything is freshly made which is evident in the taste. Even though they mention a short wait for food, it is definitely worth it. We have dined here twice already and have made a reservation for the end of the week. A charming little pub/restaurant that should not be missed.

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
