"Really sorry to say the experience was a let down. I used to visit The George 10 or so years back and it was reliable and you knew what to expect, however I won 't be returning anytime soon. Unfortunately, there were many things on the menu (including drinks! which were unavailable due to 'lack of ingredients '. On a Friday night, no fish and chips! The drinks took forever to arrive, the food was subpar and the chips came out cold. I told the waiter and piping hot chips were finally bought out after we had all finished our main course. The steak was thin, overcooked and the sauces only came out 5 minutes into the meal. The staff were friendly and apologetic about all the inconsistencies but feels like they were ran off their feet and were let down by a poor kitchen."

Visited bank holiday Monday and was relatively quiet. Food was nice but was let down by the poor service, waiting staff were inattentive leaving us without plates for a starter and without drinks and condiments for our main.

Not what the George used to be. This was our first visit back since new management took over, apparently. Food was mediocre. Trout was bland, Fish and Chips were too soggy, and forgettable. Prices were slightly high for average pub food. But atmosphere is still nice.

Thank you to Ren and the team for a delicious lunch. There was a vibrant atmosphere at the bar with live music, while in the dining area, though busy, we were able to chat with our friends while we enjoyed our food. Very interesting menu with a mix of some classics and some more adventurous dishes. Bar area is dog friendly too!

Recently changed management and the food has improved dramatically. I had the chicken and ham pie which was wonderful. They also have a mini dessert with a hot drink option which was a very nice option instead of a full dessert. The new manager checked on me during my meal to make sure everything was good. I will eat here again.

Fantastic reception by the staff who managed to accommodate us on Fathers Day despite having incorrectly booked for the previous day! The staff were polite, friendly and attentive. The food was OK, but not great, with the Prawn and Crab Linguine having plenty prawns but little evidence of crab, although this was addressed when raised with the staff. We’ll certainly be back

Lovely, cozy building, greeted by James who I think was GM. Friendly helpful. Staff were all very helpful without being over bearing. Starters Southern Fried Chicken was as good as we’ve ever had, succulent crispy dip was yummy. Roast was very good, beef was perfect. Well done everyone. Will definitely be back Just one thing to put roasties on separate dish to keep crisp not underneath the meat. 9.5/10

My family visited for Sunday lunch with the new owners. The food was amazing and highly recommended. They have only been open a couple of weeks but the restaurant was fully booked. We did have a problem with one of the starters but it was rectified quickly and the food did take a while to get to us but wow was it worth the wait. The staff was very attentive, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Recommended to family and friends. We all can not wait to visit again.

The bar staff greeted us as we walked in and were very friendly, and the atmosphere was lovely! We did get there at 1pm in the middle of the week, so it was quiet/peaceful. Prices as expected for a traditional pub, but worth it for the food. I had the Korean sesame fried chicken burger, and it was perfection; crispy, full of flavour, and a nice amount of sauce and slaw. My partner had the halloumi salad, and he loved it as much as I loved my burger. We also had a Camembert starter and a few drinks, including spirits. Wonderful experience and happy faces for just under £60.

We booked a table for 530pm and were the first in the restaurant. After waiting for an hour and 15 minutes, by which point there were 4 tables all with no food, we asked for an update on our food. While we were waiting another table, the most recent to be seated, recieved their food. We decided to leave. As we left staff informed us there had a technical difficulty and that when they checked our order had not gone to the kitchen. I appreciate technical issues do occur, but for no staff to check on our food in all that time was not acceptable. Staff were very apologetic once we raised the fact we were leaving, but by this point it was too little too late. Dinner at mcdonalds!

"We 're looking forward to trying the Pheasant again on a normal day. We went on Boxing Day and it was pretty disastrous. Meant to be a treat but it certainly wasn 't. Starters were nice, no cooking involved apart from the pesto. Then the mains. The beef was grey, not pink as I was told it would be but it was tender. The roast potatoes tasted a bit old but there were plenty. The Chantenay carrots were very soft. The Savoy cabbage was perfect but the portion was tiny. The gravy was nice but we got a different variety when we asked for more. The Yorkshire pudding was the main disaster; it seemed old, and very hard to the point of shattering. Desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was fine although the serving of sauce was very mean. The clotted cream with it is, in my opinion, the best way to serve this pudding, it 's a relief from all the sweetness. The apple crumble was terrible; it came in a bowl with the custard already in it with the pudding. The apple was sour and the crumble was squidgy stodge. The service was fine although some staff not yet fully professional. We would have expected a welcoming hello and goodbye but that didn 't happen. Our overall feeling was that there was serious penny pinching going on with the mains and desserts but this is a very bad idea when you are judged on your last meal but we do intend to try again because it 's such a wonderful building and we 've had many good experiences in The Pheasant, perhaps before the present owners, we 're not really sure."
