"A combination of a quiet day and messed up trains meant I could re visit a pub that I haven’t been in for nearly 10 years. It was just as I remembered it friendly and welcoming, with a real historic vibe. A pint of well kept and excellently served Joule’s Pale Ale, and as it was lunchtime I ordered a roast pork sandwich. This quickly arrived, loaded with pork, stuffing and apple sauce on two huge slices of granary bread, with some chips, salad, coleslaw and gravy on the side. £13.75 for a delicious sandwich, with a perfect pint in a fantastic pub. Less than ten minutes walk from the train station. Definitely recommended"

Very expensive and takes liberties with people.who are a bit inibriated by adding drinks onto their bill

This is my favourite pub in the world, it's such a cosy and welcoming place with great beer and food. Not to mention the amazing roaring fire, any cold weary travellers will be warm within 2 minutes! We highly recommend this place and look forward to going again soon. View menu

This was our first time visiting this pub and we had a fantastic night catching up with friends. The pub is friendly and serves delicious food. We both enjoyed the burgers, which were not only lovely but also great value for money. We would definitely recommend this pub to others.

Andy had the Slumbering Monk Ale and said it was 'very nice ale ', we had Beef Brisket sandwich (it was a meal indeed) and I had Chilli Con Carne, both meals were full of meat, beautifully cooked and were filling. The log and coal fire was lit, lovely people, fabulous atmosphere, will definitely be back.

I went to this restaurant with a group of 10 friends for lunch on November 7th. The food was amazing with a wide variety of options to choose from. The homemade stew was a perfect 10/10 and the selection and quality of real ale was excellent. Overall, it was a fantastic lunch experience. Thank you, Wendy. View menu

What a delight, great place and service was going the extra mile. I walked in and my glasses steamed up and was trying to unfog them by wafting them around. The member of staff went off, came back with a napkin to clear them, how thoughtful! We had their cheese, a large chunk with soft granary bread, a drink, prefect end to an evening. Nice and chatty and informative, thank you.

I discovered this restaurant while attending the Brighton vs Stoke FA Cup match on January 24th. The place was clean, tidy, and welcoming, with a great variety of local ales and lagers. The staff was friendly and it was nice to see both home and away fans mixing together. Although I didn't get a chance to try it, they offered a homemade beef stew with a roll for £6.95, which sounded very appealing during the cold winter months.
