"our first visit was fantastic, eating was delicious, and good service. there were so tasty duck and sweet dishes. tiramisu was delicious. big red wine too. large open restaurant, spacious seating, beautiful deco. toilets clean. the staff on the quiet side, not very friendly or welcoming. our second visit was actually just the next day. we had swept so much over the place where my son wanted to try. but unfortunately we were very disappointed. the lasagna was bland and cold in the middle (I have informed the waitress) and the rest of the food was not on the previous night standard. the roasted seafoods were more like a tapas dish, my sea bass was tasteless and underwhelming. maybe it was because of the weekend of st. valentine?. hopefully it was just a bad day for the staff. my five star rating was only for our first night. we loved it."

"What a find! We stumbled across this pub on the way home from Marwell zoo. The staff and the customers (I assume locals) were incredibly friendly! We had a noisy 18 month old with us and everyone was so sweet with her and chatting to us. The garden is set up with some Lego and a little sandpit for children which is a lovely touch. Our food then arrived….beautiful! Really good food and the portions are huge!! We will definitely make a point of stopping by here again. What a find"

"I have been to Gartons three times now, giving them a fair chance each time. Unfortunately, the service was slow every visit, with one day even having to stop lunch service due to the staff not being able to cope with the number of customers. The food, especially the waffles, was not great - dry and overly sweet, and definitely not a good combination with egg and spinach. However, a positive aspect is that they are dog-friendly, which is a bonus for those with furry friends who enjoy waffles."

"Ordered a takeaway from here, and was it ready in good time for pick up. The food was for the most part good and the onion bhajis were excellent. My one and only issue was that the restaurant's style of Chicken Tikka Masala was not to my liking. It was very minty and fruity in taste and unlike any Tikka Masala I have ever had. I would have preferred a more traditional rendition. To be fair when we ordered the restaurant warned us that their Tikka Masala was quite different. But for my money their changes to this dish undermined what for the most part was a very good meal. By all means have that dish on the menu but in my view it was not a Tikka Masala. Perhaps a Minty Masala"

"Very disappointing, after being locals to this pub for years sadly the new owners have taken a disliking to the younger generation of the pub, we have always spent vast amounts of money in this pub over the years and suddenly we are being greeted with a frosty reception, being told we’re not allowed to use the outdoor heater, being followed into the toilets and being told we’re not welcome in here or the swan. After asking to see a food menu at 2.30 in the afternoon (kitchen closes at 3) we were told they are not serving food, despite tables around us eating and receiving food. We’re more then happy to take our good custom elsewhere and support other local businesses in the area as we are always greeted with smiles and open arms. I would highly recommend people to avoid this disappointment of an establishment at all costs and put your money into the hands of happy faces in places such as the bricks or the olive and vine. Bearing in mind the younger generation are the ones who supported this pub during its hardest times and during lockdown, we would eat in here maybe twice a week. The wheatsheaf has been my partners local since he was 18 years old, he’s now 31. Sadly our friends have all had similar experiences over the last couple of months and it’s a shame that they are trying to make such a big change in custom in an extremely small town. Word travels fast in this place and I’m concerned they have their priorities all wrong. It’s a real shame that you’re turning away willing, loyal customers. I hope this review is understood as honest feedback from loyal customers who would like to see this place thrive. Regards."
