"Me, my wife, our teenager and our dog had come out for the day to take a look around Newcastle quayside. We needed somewhere that wasn 't to overly priced and was dog friendly. we came across The Head of Steam by searching for dog friendly in Newcastle on the internet, and decided to give it a go. The pub was very clean and tidy inside (I would describe it as hip if i was still in my 20 's lol and it was on the quieter side of busy for a weekday afternoon. The menu had a lunchtime meal deal running that had a small, somewhat limited selection of food with Drinks for £8 as a meal deal. (think burgers, gyros, taco 's These come with nachos or for 50p you can upgrade to fries (and they were very good fries! The young lady behind the bar was polite and attentive, and she cam over to ask us more about my sons burger and how he would want it making up (he is quite picky she was also very friendly to our dog, giving him lots of fuss that he very much appreciated. Overall if you want somewhere to grab a light lunch at a reasonable price, close to the quayside and with a nice atmosphere, this is deffo one to keep on the list of possibilities. The only think i would say is outside of the meal deal, the main menu was quite pricey, and that should be considered if eating outside of lunchtime or seeking the wider menu options."

No atmosphere, staff have no personality, place was dead on a Saturday night, drinks expensive. Don't bother, better pubs in the area.

Great pub, friendly staff and a chilled vibe. Loads of beers that you seldom see all in one place. Thoroughly recommend the Neck Oil and my wife loved the cocktails

Beautiful pub.Loved the decor. Very friendly staff . However the prices were a tad high .One pump beer was £11 a pint ! Vodka had far too much coke in it but ,next drink ,I asked for less . Would fo back again but would take twice as much money with me ! View menu

Popped in for a quick drink and a tandoori Gýros (delicious and filling), and was given excellent service by all, but particularly by a delightful bald headed fellow. I believe by the name of miles? Thanks for the great time, great drinks and great mems team

Having been a regular visitor to the central station venue I wasn’t even really aware of the quayside one. Popped in after the market, beer selection is insane! Both draught and the best stocked Belgian fridge I’ve ever seen. Bit overwhelming almost but the staff know their beer and guided myself and my mates to some very good first time beers. Seriously impressed! Didn’t eat but menu looks decent.

My hubby and recently had some lunch at Head of Steam Quayside as pre drink grub before a post christmas pub crawl. We both had the Alright chuck chicken burgers. Got to say the staff where lovely and our beers where decent. The food however was a bit meh Very overpriced and over rated. The burgers whilst the buttermilk chicken was cooked well, they where really underwhelming and tasteless. The seasoned fries tasted greasy and like they sat for a while and been re-fried again. They really wheren't good. Probably would return to Head of steam quayside again but will just stick to the beer. View menu

I was working at a gig at The Sage in Gateshead on Wednesday afternoon and I wanted to grab a bite to eat nearby before a long evening ahead. I remembered The Head of Steam on Newcastle's Quayside and decided to give it a try since it had been a while since my last visit. The staff at the bar were friendly and I started with a latte before ordering a Bourbon Smoker triple pattie burger, 'cheezy tater tots', homemade onion rings, and a pint of lemonade for a friend. The food came quickly and was delicious, the venue was comfortable, clean, and a great place to relax and eat. The atmosphere was nice with background music that wasn't too loud. The Head of Steam on the Quayside is definitely wor...

After a long walk on the quayside, we decided to stop in for a meal at this restaurant. We chose items from the lunchtime menu, but were surprised to be told that it was not available on weekends. We ordered the chicken gyros and the Head of Steam gyros, along with a Diet Coke and a pint, which came to about £32. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but we were disappointed to find that the chicken gyros came with chips instead of salad. The portion sizes were small and not worth the price, especially considering the nearly £14 price tag for the gyros. The Head of Steam gyros only had three pieces of chicken in a pita with a thin slice of steak and a small portion of overdone chi...

"The place seems unprofessionally run. The staff all look like they could do with a bath. No overalls are worn and their clothes are all of the type that many would wear to lounge around the house in . Several have longer hair and beards but don’t wear any kitchen p.p.e. The decor is shabby and I wondered what kind of hygiene rating they would have. Although not busy, the staff seemed to be disorganised, falling over eachother and lacking in training. They seemed to handle the food in an inexperienced, clumsy fashion. The only tool I saw being used was a pizza peel for taking the pizza in and out of the oven. On all other occasions the food was handled. I didn’t notice any hand washing or alcohol gel in evidence. The menu is quite limited and uninspiring. 2 of the 6 pizza choices include chicken which Italians would argue is definite no no! All pizzas are reheated to order which eliminates the possibility of customisation. I don’t believe the restaurant would stand out in many European countries, as pizza in general is of a much higher standard than that in the UK. In spite of the above, The basic pizza is excellent in taste (even though it is all re-heated). And for this reason it is worth a visit. Compared to other uk pizza restaurants which are typically serving absolute garbage, the food is way out in front. If you can tolerate the negatives I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with the pizza. However with a bit of effort, this place could be transformed into something truly amazing."
