"Really nice pub would return if i lived in the area. Visited for a beer and some food with wife and infant daughter, large carpark, is located at the top of the hill, staff and the locals were very welcoming. Nice selection of ales lagers and spirits. Restaurant section looked to be closed, but the lounge was bright and modern finish. Pub menu was served as per the website but they had a nice choice of specials. Had the special starter peri peri chicken samosa with pickled molis, perfect balance of curried samosa, sharp pickled mooli and spicey peri, came with an interesting almost experimental bread and charcoal garlic butter, mmm yummy main was a wholesome hearty gaint yorkshire brimmed with onion gravey and sausages dressed with a herby oil and fries on the side, was perfectly portioned for a big fella like me, may be too much for some, but a brilliant meal. Finished off with a white chocolate raspberry blondie, with a tart raspberry coolis and custard. Wife had the burger was thick and tasty, nicely seasoned. Daughter had a big portion of fish fingers and chips. Table services was efficient and friendly. Locals were nice to talk to aswell. We all left happy and full, would recommend. Parking: Big lot next to the pub would fit about 12 designated drivers Kid-friendliness: Had kids chair available, changing facilities in the disabled, large selection on the kids menu. Friendly staff, welcomed kids as well as adult. The food, while decent, didn't quite meet my expectations, earning a rating of 3 out of 5. However, the service was outstanding, receiving a perfect score of 5. The staff were attentive and friendly, making the dining experience more enjoyable. Unfortunately, the atmosphere left much to be desired, with a rating of just 2 out of 5; it felt a bit lacking in ambiance. If you do decide to visit, I recommend trying the Linguine Monte E Mate and the Garlic Pizza Bread, as they were the highlights of the meal. Overall, while there are areas for improvement, the excellent service made up for some of the shortcomings."

"Thankfully we only went for dinner, or at least we tried. It would seem that the Stump Cross has gone down hill since I last ate there in 2016-ish. The interior now looks very tired, there is tape sticking down carpets, it feels very sparse. All in all, it feels like a down-market Toby Carver but more expensive (and you don’t get any food, more to follow on that)! We went for a Sunday roast however it was just a bog-standard carvery. Not to worry we thought, the menu online seems to imply quite “posh” food. On the contrary, the Sunday offering is variations of carvery meats with vegetables, and a small selection of other less impressive dishes. Ultimately, we both decided on the Yorkshire pudding wrap, containing beef and gravy, with some roast potatoes on the side. I can’t tell you what it was like, because we waiting almost an hour and no food arrived; we had asked several times and were repeatedly told it was coming out in five minutes In the end, we rang another restaurant to ensure availability, and told the waitress to cancel the order and left. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but my question is, how can it take almost an hour to put some already cooked meat, in a (most likely) already prepared/cooked Yorkshire pudding and put that on a plate of already cooked potatoes the pub was serving a carvery! The nice lady at the bar was sympathetic and waved the cost for the coffee and coke we’d had. Some sort of service recovery there at least? We definitely will not be returning or recommending. "So after booking in for the steak night last Thursday we turned up to the sun inn, where we was greeted by a waitress asking if we had a booking which we confirmed we had. She then went off to get the chef/owner. This is when the experience goes downhill. “I’m sorry we have no steaks” was all he could say. When asked how that was made possible as surely you buy the amount of steaks plus 2/3 to cover the bookings you get he answered that he just couldn’t turn down the business, but he already had the business as we had booked for this? I’m fine with mistakes being made as it happens but this guy was just extremely rude, I even said why don’t you do any 2 mains and a bottle of wine for the same price. “No sorry I can’t do that” to be honest it shouldn’t be me suggesting ideas for an owner to make it up to a customer after making a mistake but this guy wasn’t bothered in the slightest. I never leave bad reviews but when you get left at 8pm with not many other places with spare tables it just didn’t sit right. Simply don’t book in to this place as he might not be able to turn down the business if someone else comes before you"
