"In a gastronomic era dominated by a surfeit of no-choice tasting menus it is a delight to sample the fine dining choices offered by the menu at the Peacock. With its delicious, daily changing, amuse bouches and pre-deserts along with a hyper-salivatory choice of seven starters and mains, it takes you back to the masterfully inventive days of the 1970 with all the refinements of a modern and superbly creative kitchen team. This super bill of fare offers guests at the hotel a good reason to stay for a few nights without wondering where-else to eat. After temperature checks and hand sanitising we were warmly, and efficiently, welcomed into the bosom of this lovely old Hotel in the heart of early autumnal Derbyshire. The food was up there with the very best of British cooking. My starter of beautifully presented Tuna tartare with a soy flavouring and a thin yuzu gel covering was a sushi wonder and my wife's cauliflower soup with curry oil drizzle (another homage to the 70's) superbly creamy and flavoursome. Our mains (Stone bass with fennel and sardines and the superb goats curd and shallot ravioli) were accompanied by an excellent choice of wines by glass or bottle. Choice also included equally tasty but more traditional items from the bar menu and the meal was completed by desserts that would have made any Michelin pastry chef proud. We travelled for over an hour to reach this culinary haven and it was worth every minute. The restaurant, attentive waiting staff and, especially the chefs, provided us with an evening of foody delight. Just go there! You won't regret it."

If only we'd come here for our Golden Wedding instead of The Cavendish. Every aspect was so much better.

Just a wonderful meal and customer service. We couldn’t get a reservation at the restaurant not that it mattered as the food in the bar was superior to most restaurant meals we have been to. Really lovely meal which made our first night in Derbyshire special.

We really enjoyed our anniversary meal here. We had the tasting menu which was divine and they adapted it slightly for my husband who doesn’t eat fish or seafood which was very accommodating. The staff were all very friendly and their covid 19 precautions were more than adequate.

I normally do not write reviews but our delicious lunch with perfect service was worth one. Loved the food, the personal service and the kind staff. Kids also loved the food. Highly recommended and good value for money for such nice food. We had lunch menu with lots of homemade food

Came here for lunch on a Thursday with my wife and we both ate from the lighter lunch menu (half size mains, normal size starter and desert). Everything was great. Service was covid cautious but friendly and food was delicious. Salmon tempura was a lovely starter and lamb shoulder waslovely and rich (and perfectly sized) but the Tarte Tatin for pudding was the star. Great place for fancy classic food.

We enjoyed an impromptu lunch here with our two young children. We had the salmon tempura and chicken and ham hock pie for starters followed by steak and burgers for mains! All of the food was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were fantastic value. As we took advantage of the government eat in scheme I was expecting a limited menu or smaller portions but this wasn’t the case at all. The staff were exceptionally professional wearing they’re masks and helpful whenever we needed anything. Definitely recommend this lovely restaurant and will plan to stay in the future, it has a very homely yet elegant feel.

We booked The Peacock at Rowsley for my husbands birthday for a special as we were staying in the area.We regularly eat at fine dining restaurants and have been to a couple of Michelin starred places too. We were really disappointed with the level of service and the knowledgeability of the staff about the food and the wines and the bill here was more than we have ever paid for a fine dining or Michelin starred meal.. The food was good, not exceptional and the quality of the food did not reflect the cost sadly. When you spend that sort of money (our bill was £300 for the 2 of us) you expect something pretty amazing and it just wasn’t.

Great lunch in stunning historic hotel. Professional and friendly staff helped make our delicious”lighter lunch” all the more special after a walk to the Nine Sisters. Information is available to read about this very beautiful and well maintained 17th century hotel with its delightful grounds. It is spotlessly clean and fully compliant with Covid protocols. A good range of dishes on the set lunch menu such as a delicious salmon starter in its own crispy skin and a parsley soup with creme fraiche, both served with sourdough. For mains (which are half normal main course size) my sister enjoyed lamb and I had a creamy tomato risotto with yellow courgettes and nasturtium leaves. To finish we tre...

My wife and I with my 13yr old son came to the Peacock on 28th October 2020 for lunch. The meal was tasty although portions were on the small side. Some prices were absurd we ordered water and later found out that a bottle of around one litre was charged at £5.35. A side order of chips was £4...but consisted of 8 chips...thats 50p per chip. Now I don't mind paying for high class food but overcharging for chips and water is just having a laugh at customers.Service was quite good but one of the waiters leaned right over our table to pick up a dish...sorry, but that is not high class service. Crumbs were not cleared between courses..I suppose the excuse is Corvid but if a waiter can clear the t...
