"A little off the beaten track but well worth a visit. We got the impression the owner /chef modifies opening hours to suit himself, so telephoning to book is a must. The interior is a mix of exposed stonework and timber. There is a cosy and comfortable waiting area with mixed furnishings. The restaurant is a subtly lit mix of stylistic references thick hessian flooring, modern metal framed tables and high backed chairs, nice water colour paintings and the ubiquitous buckets of twigs combining to give a comfortable ambience. The restaurant area is not large, and does not use background music: I prefer human hubbub anyway. Service was good, but the chef makes the point that everything is cooked to order, so those who enjoy eating and chatting will find one course will follow on smoothly to the next, but fast foodies will be drumming their fingers on the table top. Menus are not pretentious, are based on what is available from local suppliers, are moderately inventive and thus all is interesting. Fish, fowl, flesh and grass are well represented. We enjoyed everything we ordered, all ingredients were well cooked and played their part in titillating our tongues. Given the personalised nature of this eating experience, £50 per head for three courses, a couple of glasses of wine, coffee and service (optional) seems good value."

I chose the Pilgrims for a top quality meal and surroundings to celebrate my wife's special birthday. It was everything I'd hoped it would be. Thank you

A really delicious dinner with great ingredients, locally produced. The house made black pudding and the cheeses were a highlight. The service was friendly and attentive, but not transmitted.

It was by chance we came across this bespoke restaurant last year on our visit to Somerset and we were very happy to have a joint celebratory dinner for 4 again. It was just as good and Jools and his young service attendant was there to make it a special evening for us.

I found it peculiar that OpenTable reached out for a review of this restaurant, considering it has been closed since September 2019. We had booked a table months in advance and even confirmed the reservation the day before, only to discover the restaurant was closed. It was a disappointing experience and I now have doubts about using this app for future bookings.

What a great restaurant. We ate there on Saturday night and everything was perfect. The chef came out to talk to us and created a new sauce for my wife's sea bass to cater for her food allergies.Nothing was too much trouble. The only shame was we were on holiday and it is not our local restaurant! The portions were generous and so tasty. What a great end to our holiday.

We love the Pilgrims Restaurant, it's a little gem and the food is excellent. Jools came out of the kitchen to meet us and apologised for the slow service. We understand Jools is a brigade of one. if the service had been timely we would have given this super restaurant straight fives. We are fans but please would you consider getting Jools some help in the kitchen as we'd love to come back and see you, and enjoy more of your delicious food.
