"This is one of our favourite hosteleries for our weekly Friday lunchtime meals out in retirement. I must admit that this is in a large part due to to it serving the tastiest and best value fillet steak around, served as a Wellington, with a selection of sides included, including truffle mash (though sides are extra with other mains). Oh, and also as, though it has no real ale on hand pulls, it does a nice pint of keg Neck Oil India Pale Ale, though it is 50% overpriced at £6, as opposed to £4 elsewhere. The menu features a good range of lunch time fayre, including, as starters, a cracking prawn cocktail (though the latest version is not as good as the one before, which had a little caviar on top), haggis bon bons, Thai fish cakes, black pudding and poached egg, seafood scotch egg and garlic and rosemary Camembert. As well as the fillet, mains include Salmon Wellington, Sea Bass, curry, lasagne, corned beef pie, a massive plate of mussels and various chicken recipies, one of which my wife had. Overall then, a good value, quality, pub eatery, though be warned that it can get a tad busy and thus noisy on Friday afternoons."

Another great stay at The Portland. Amazing huge room and very well looked after by Khalifa and the team. We booked a bottomless brunch for 11 and it was great, the drinks didn’t stop flowing!

Noooo. It was horrible. Much to noise from the bar area the zebra crossing is outside so you get flashing lights all night. Ten quid for the car park because the receptionist Corrie said “ this is a really rough area we can guarantee your car will not get broken into…

We've visited 3 times this month already. Each time we've ordered off the smaller lunch time menu. We've had various sandwiches and small meals. Highly recommend the fish finger sarnie, the ham one and the New York pastrami one. All have been great. All very filling. Service has been great each time. Out door seating in the garden was great, when it's sunny. All reasonably priced. Staff are excellent. Cant recommend highly enough

First time at the Portland Hotel in the past 35 years.I used to live in Ashington back then What a lovely job they have done to this hotel we stayed overnight in a studio room in the main building. Very nice clean and lovely refurbished room. Breakfast in the morning lovely We were greeted on arrival by the manager Khalif he couldn’t do enough for us in fact all the staff were excellent. We could not fault this Hotel at all and very good value for money. I have given this hotel 5 star

The room itself was decent Well equipped. Bed wasn't particularly comfy but it was passable. Parking £10 a bit of a shock and at £15 each for breakfast, we gave it a miss. The main issue is the level of noise in the lodge. I could hear every conversation from the room next to us, even low level chat. I think the TVs must all be fixed to the wall headboard side of the next rooms as the TV noise behind our heads was very intrusive. Someone was snoring like a bear. It happens, however there must be zero sound proofing as we had to use ear plugs through the night! Sorry, hate to give a bad review, however I can't recommend at all. View menu

Upon arriving I was greeted by a chap named ED. He was very warm and welcome and made me feel like i was part of his family. He even gave me a complentry upgraded room which was stunning in all ways possible! I can say the whole vibe of this place is pretty amsome. Nice staff quality food and just a place where you wouldn't want to leave. So much to comment and say about the hidden Jems about this place give it a try people and I will be spreading the word! Overall a 10/10 for me and Khalifa the manager is a top guy aswell very polite and friendly I will be returning with my family this is for sure Awesome guys and thanks you for you hospitality Adam.

Ordered 2 prawn with Marie sauce sandwiches. I with chunky chips and 1 with soup. The sandwiches were disgusting. They had included avocado which was soft sour and brownish One of the sandwich bread slices was the end cut, stale and half the size of the other slice. There was no mention of avocado on the menu so it was just as well we had no allergies. This is the worst meal I've been served at the Portland and couldn't eat it, I have organised many group bookings. Will think twice of visiting again. They apologised asked what do we do from here and we said we didn't want any more food. From that moment we were left sitting unattended and we received no further recognition so we left.
