"I would have given The Priory five stars if it weren't for the disconcerting lack of a reception. Upon arriving at this charming house in a beautiful setting, we were unsure of what to do. Thankfully, some guests in the lounge informed us that a member of staff would be with us shortly. The service we received from a friendly and attentive young woman was delightful. The set menu offered a good selection of dishes, all of which were of top quality. The amuse bouche at the beginning was a nice touch, and the presentation and taste of the food were excellent. The service was quick but not rushed, and the portion sizes were generous but not overwhelming. We were able to comfortably enjoy three courses and coffee without feeling overly full. After dinner, we enjoyed coffee in the cozy lounge. The only downside was the lack of an obvious reception area when it came time to pay our bill. We had to locate a discreet bell to summon someone to take our payment. Clearer signage for the bell would easily resolve this issue. Despite this small inconvenience, we had a wonderful evening and have already recommended The Priory to friends. We look forward to returning in the future."

Good quality 3 course meal for £29.99. Enjoyed it. Drinks reasonably priced. Decent choice of courses with veggie option.

My husband, mother-in-law, grandmother-in-law, and I recently dined at Cook's based on a recommendation from one of Gran's friends.

We had an included 3 course meal here £30 value) on an overnight stay. This Restaurant is lovely, fully wood panelled with a nice ambience. My wife and I both had the fish mains cod) which were delicious, as were the starters and puds. Good service. Lovely evening. View menu

My wife and I had a delightful dining experience at this restaurant. As non-residents, we found the atmosphere to be warm and welcoming, and the service was top-notch. While the menu was not extensive, the food was of excellent quality and well-presented. We both agreed that we would return, this time opting to stay overnight.

My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. As visitors, we felt welcomed by the cozy atmosphere and the attentive service. The food was outstanding - even though the menu was not extensive, the quality and presentation more than made up for it. We both agreed that we would happily come back again, maybe as paying customers next time.

My spouse and I booked a lunch reservation here after our wedding on the advice of the local registrars office. We should have done some research beforehand as the restaurant turned out to be quite mediocre in every aspect. The menu was nothing special with the usual predictable dishes, prices were average (around £60 for two including two glasses of wine), and the food was just acceptable. We have no desire to return. Yorkshire is home to two of the best restaurants in the world and plenty of other high-quality dining options. If you're looking for something exceptional, I recommend going to one of those instead. We wish we had made the effort to do so. View menu

I was fortunate enough that my wife and daughters chose this hotel as a venue for my surprise 70th Birthday and could not have chosen anywhere better. I was taken by helicopter into the paddock where our guests were awaiting my arrival with welcoming drinks and carols. The house looked a picture with it's open fires, Christmas tree and very tasteful decor. The charm of the dining room was not lost on our 35 guests where we were served with an amazing lunch, which I was told had been individually pre-ordered; a feat by itself. Nothing was too much trouble for the extremely atentive staff who are clearly proud to work at Burythorpe House. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and I have to say th...

The only reason I did not give The Priory five stars is the absence of a reception. Guests arrive at this beautiful house in picturesque surroundings, only to find themselves unsure of what to do. Luckily, some residents in the lounge informed us that a staff member would be with us shortly. The service was delightful and attentive, with a set menu offering a good selection of top-notch food. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasted delicious, served promptly but without feeling rushed. The portions were generous, yet we were able to enjoy three courses and coffee without feeling overly full. After our meal, we returned to the comfort of the lounge for coffee. However, the lack of a vi...

"We arrived and walked into the pub.. there wasn't any sort of reception area.. the lady serving showed us our room. The room smelt damp.we went out for dinner said we would be back 10ish pm, we got back at 10.08pm. It was raining. We tried to get in everywhere was locked up.. we were getting wet and cold, we honked the car horn and rang the door bell.. nothing, so we phoned the property. No one answered it went to an answer machine,we sat back in the car , we were soaked and stuck outside..no way to get in.. Eventually a man walked from the bottom field and asked if we were the residents stuck outside? Apparently his manager had rang him to go have a look, he made it clear to us that he wasn't suppose to be working till Monday but he has had to come up to let us in... he let us in and locked up and off he went. My brother realised then he had left his phone in the car so went to get it but we were locked in. The fact that we were now locked in was very concerning as to fire and safety regulations, hoe would you get out in the situation.. but anyway atleast we were indoors and vould go to bed albeit that the room smelt so strongly of damp, but we had no choice, we were out in the middle of nowhere , which we thought would be a nice place to stay, but unfortunately not.... we had 3 flights of stairs to our room..a damp room, and no access after 10pm although we had said what time we were returning..we would have eaten there if the meals had been reasonably priced. Really not the best place to stay.."
