"We live in Dorset but my In-Laws live in Cambridge and we have had several great family celebrations at the Felix Hotel, including a wedding last April. Therefore it seemed the perfect place to take my In-Laws to for Christmas lunch this year. I booked early and a few weeks before Christmas I got a phone call from Reception to say they were e-mailing the Christmas Lunch menu to me for us to make our choices. The menu did not arrive, so I telephoned the hotel and they apologised and said they would re-send it. Again, it did not arrive, so I telephoned again to be told that they had sent it, twice, to the wrong address. On Christmas Day we arrived at the restaurant where a young woman, who was walking around with a piece of paper in her hand, looked at me and said Yes? No greeting, no smile, no Happy Christmas, no welcome. We were shown to our table, where we were basically abandoned. After 20 minutes, having not been approached by a member of staff or been offered bread, water, or anything else I sought out the Barman and asked if we could have our 'Welcome Drink ' (as featured on the menu) which he brought to our table. We were then told that as we had not pre-chosen our menu there would be a delay in serving our lunch. I assured the young woman (the unsmiling one who had showed us to our table) that we had indeed e-mailed our menu choices and she then disappeared to look for the e-mail. When the food finally arrived it was delicious but we were left for long periods between courses and served by a variety of waiting staff who, without exception, were curt and clearly would rather have been elsewhere. Finally, when I went to pay the bill, I was given the wrong bill and the same miserable young woman as before was clearly irritated when I questioned it. I wrote to the Manager to express my disappointment with our Christmas experience but have had no acknowledgement from the hotel. Sadly, we will not be returning and would not reccommend it to anyone."

"The kitchen at this restaurant serves subpar food and relies on its young staff to explain the disappointing dishes. For example, the pea puree on the Monkfish Scampi was identical to mushy peas on the Haddock Chips, and fries were served instead of chips with the steak because the kitchen had run out of chips. The menu advertised hand-cut chips, but it seems they ran out of potatoes as well. The "Artisan cheese and Arran crackers" turned out to be generic cheese and Jacobs crackers with no chutney. The chocolate fondant was not oozing as expected and came with cherries instead of peanut brittle. The ice cream was vanilla instead of the advertised peanut butter. This may be acceptable for large groups of golfers on a set menu, but for a couple staying for two nights looking to enjoy the hotel and area, it was disappointing. On the first night, we had to settle for our fourth choice of white wine as they didn't have our first three choices. It was strange to not have a wine list and to be missing 25% of the wines. The sourdough bread on the menu with Cullen Skink turned out to be a mini Hovis loaf, which felt like an insult from the kitchen and management. These issues were brought to the attention of the Operations Manager upon departure, as it was not the fault of the young serving staff. Our experience has left us feeling that the brand image has been tarnished, and we will not be returning to another MacDonalds restaurant."

"Came to look at hotel last year to book for November this year. Looked very impressive. How wrong was I. Booked for two nights. Arrived 4-30pm. Room was nothing special and was very cold. Went out for a meal and retuned at 9-30pm. I booked a twin room as my husband has many health problems which I won’t go into. Got into my bed and had quite a shock. The mattress was lumpy and the buttons had been covered with material held down with a metal staple . So uncomfortable.Think I fell asleep at 3am. Woke up at 6am. I had to put my jumper and scarf on, was so cold. Had a lovely breakfast and staff were very nice. Spoke to the manager about the mattress and the cold room. Went out for the day and came back early as I was absolutely shattered. Same mattress and still freezing cold . Went to reception and asked for the manager and was told they where fully booked and could do anything about it. He followed me back to our room to look at the mattress. Which shows he did absolutely nothing to help . He had all day to do something about it but obviously couldn’t be bothered . He said our choices were to sleep on the same mattress or leave. Now I’m nearly 74 years of age and paid a lot of money to sleep here. Told him again I couldn’t sleep on it so he told us to leave. On a very cold night and pouring with rain ,we checked out and not knowing the area we just sat in the car . He did mention another hotel In Yarmouth which we ended up at and I want to thank him for that as it was so much better then the Cliffs We got a full refund . Didn’t make up for the horrible experience."

"Two weeks in advance, we excitedly reserved an afternoon tea experience through the enticing promotion we spotted on Facebook. This offer included unlimited prosecco, setting the stage for a delightful outing. Our anticipation was palpable as we arrived at the venue, but unfortunately, our experience took a disheartening turn. Upon arrival, the reception provided only partial directions regarding the location of our booked afternoon tea. However, our hopes were quickly dashed as our initial interactions unfolded. The staff member managing the check-in process guided us to a seating area and presented us with a Sunday menu, a stark contrast to what we had pre-booked – the afternoon tea experience. Our attempt to clarify this discrepancy was met with a suggestion to change tables, as the initial one designated for us apparently suited the Sunday Roast crowd. Adding to our dismay, as we settled in, it became apparent that the tablecloth and serviettes were noticeably dirty, marred by large gravy stains. This further underscored the lack of attention to detail and cleanliness. Despite relocating, our situation remained unclear. Another staff member, seemingly uncertain about their role within the establishment, informed us that no reservation had been made for the afternoon tea we had booked. This response left us perplexed and frustrated. Our attempts to rectify the situation were met with an astonishing lack of professionalism and empathy. Our complaint about the inconvenient £20 taxi fare we had incurred fell on deaf ears, met only with rudeness and indifference from the waiter. The staff member made no effort to investigate or provide a suitable resolution for the predicament. Rather, they nonchalantly dismissed the issue, suggesting that such occurrences were simply a part of the process. Faced with limited options, we reluctantly chose to settle for the afternoon lunch at the hotel. This decision required us to relocate our seating for the sixth time, highlighting the disarray in the service we had encountered. The overall experience felt disjointed, exacerbating our disappointment. Adding insult to injury, the staff offered us a small drink, despite our earlier expectation of enjoying the unlimited prosecco that was an integral part of our pre-booked arrangement. The lack of concern exhibited by the staff members in addressing the chaotic situation was glaring, leaving us feeling like mere spectators in a disorganized circus. On our departure, the waiter made a passing comment that next time we should ensure to double-check the accuracy of our booking details. This remark, however, seemed misplaced, as we had directly contacted Langton 's at Cooper 's Hill to make the reservation, ensuring accuracy on our part. In conclusion, our much-anticipated afternoon tea with unlimited prosecco turned into an exasperating ordeal marked by confused service, lack of accountability, and a blatant disregard for our pre-arranged reservation. The experience fell far short of our expectations, tarnishing what should have been a memorable outing. The state of the tablecloth and serviettes, marred by unsightly gravy stains, further highlighted the lack of attention to cleanliness and detail, compounding our disappointment."
