"My girlfriend, friends and family have been going to this pub since October We have been for dinner, lunch and more often than not just for drinks. The food is top notch and their Sunday lunches are incredible (I's also highly recommend the game and pork pie, the sri lankan lamb curry, the sausages and mustard mash and anything from the dessert menu). They have a great selection of wine, whisky and gin and are always coming up with genuinely great cocktails. You couldn't ask for better publicans or a better atmosphere. I will kerp going and I recommend it to anyone."

Last Saturday night, we celebrated our daughter's 30th birthday party at this restaurant and I can't stress enough how smoothly everything went. View menu

The service at this restaurant is fantastic, with great choices and wine recommendations. The food is incredibly well prepared and of excellent quality. The scallops were especially amazing.

Our visit. Each time the food and friendly service have been excellent. Consistently great experience, this time we took the kids too and They enjoyed the same menu and appreciated the extra touches in the food and presentation and are keen to return too.

Regrettably, the restaurant's limited menu and prices were not listed on their website. Despite the lack of a large crowd, the service was rather slow. The food was decent, but the liver was tough and expensive. Although the owner was friendly, we do not intend to visit again. View menu

The pub has changed hands. The menu is now a mix of traditional pub food and Asian inspired dishes which seem out of place in a country pub. We chose from the tradional menu. Burgers were tough and lacked flavour. Fish and chips were poor and out old son complained that the peas had gone hard. Ketchup and tartar sauce tasted chemically. Truly awful food and we left very disappointed.

Disappointing! This restaurant has changed hands since being included in the good food guide and now serves trendy' pan asian food and pub standards. We waited nearly an hour for sausage and mash and fish and chips although there were only two other people dining.Sausages were OK but the fish batter was soggy as were the chips, peas nearly cold and undercooked.Although we were given a slight reduction on the bill we will not be going again and would not recommend it.

"Our first visit. We cannot praise thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason Sheila. We will be back, soon."
