"Our first date in 1976 was at the newly opened Royal Exchange Theatre to see "The Rivals." So when we decided to catch the current performance of "Guys and Dolls," we noticed that a new restaurant named "The Rivals" had opened nearby. We couldn't resist stopping by for some appetizers, and we were not disappointed. The staff was extremely friendly without being intrusive, the house wine was excellent, and the food was delightful. The king prawn in my prawn cocktail tasted as if it had just come straight from the sea. I ordered sea bream while my husband had fish and wedges, both of which were delicious. The bread and butter pudding was also a highlight. This was a birthday treat for us, and it turned out to be fabulous and great value for money. The restaurant had a lovely nostalgic charm, and we will definitely return."

Lovely food and a bit unusual but none the worse for that. Wine per glass £6 a bit pricey even for Marlborough. Would advise buying a bottle if more than one glass is required. Otherwise fine

I was impressed by the competition. While I didn’t try the food, the selection of real ales was fantastic. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere in the restaurant/bar was both welcoming and trendy.

Beautiful place, impossible to see from exchange square, but hidden inside the exchange theatre is this restaurant and bar. Wonderfully decorated, relaxed and classy. Good ale selection actually, food looks very nice but is towards the pricier end of the spectrum. I haven't eaten here yet so I can't tell you if it matches the expectations that sets. View menu

Went in for the first time yesterday, Lovely bar. Had a pint of cask ale and the barman took the trouble to make sure the beer was ok before he pulled my pint out. That is great service, and something you don't get very often these days. Wish this bar had of been here when I used to go to the theatre regularly! Will definitely make sure I come back though.

What a lovely evening in a great setting. Beautiful food, excellent choice of wine and relaxed dining experience. The staff were very attentive, we were brought water straight away and both our drink and food orders were taken as soon as we were ready. I had the feta arancini to start followed by the fish cakes and topped off with a chocolate delice, it was all delicious. The portions were great value for money and we were both suitably full. Thank you for your hospitality, we will be back soon!

"Alborz is a wonderful hidden gem in Levenshulme that serves a variety of Persian and Middle-Eastern food, located on Stockport Rd you could be forgiven for thinking that Alborz is as unassuming as it's humble exterior suggests. However, what lies behind those modest doors is truly fantastic restaurant both in terms of food and service. The interior is understated and tasteful, furnished with Persian vases and ornate tea sets, the tables are close together to make the most of the limited space available but this lends a refreshing communal atmosphere to your meal. The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to talk you through the menu and explain the various dishes. We ordered the Mezze Platter to start, this consists of four different starters, and is ideal if you're not overly familiar with Persian cuisine, the homemade hummus was a particular highlight being both fresh and tasty. We then ordered the Alborz special grill for two, which looks as wonderful as it tastes, succulent skewers of koobideh and chicken accompanied by grilled vegetables, saffron rice and a freshly baked taltoon bread which was frankly quite ridiculous in its magnificence and is so large it came supplied with its own stand. This was a true delight to eat and I can highly recommend it. After all of that, we were overloaded with food and couldn't possibly consider having dessert and so, asked for the bill, which led to true surprise of the evening, all of this wonderfully authentic and fresh food came to a grand total of £42. This reflects tremendous value in a time where a meal for two can often prove quite expensive. Overall I would say that Alborz is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and if you're not well then it's worth making the trip for. If you're a fan of Persian food or perhaps want to try something new then you would genuinely struggle to find such a quality dining experience at this price point."
