"Myself and 5 family/friends along with two small babies decided to pop into the Saltwells Inn after a walk from home through the nature reserve with our dog. It had turned out a lovely summers afternoon and we went into the beer garden to enjoy...the sunshine. I forget how big the pub is and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and tidy the pub was. There were two people serving behind the bar a young lad and an older man who looked like a manager they were both working hard and the bar was clean and tidy and fully stocked. We had a Pepsi and pint of cider and 4 gin and tonics which came to 33 not bad going at all for 4 double gins the selection was good and they were served in gin glasses with plenty of ice. I also asked for water for the dog and they happily obliged. We decided to order food as we were all peckish as it was around 1:30 when we visited. We werent expecting amazing food as the pub is off the beaten track and Im guessing trade depends on the weather and people knowing the pub is there as it isnt on the main road. We had two jacket potatos with beans and cheese 4 odd each) two baps with salad and chips, one prawn and one ham and cheese. A pasta bake with garlic bread and a Caribbean hunters chicken. The food arrived promptly served by a lovely young lady who didnt look 18 yet but was polite and seemed to be taking out the meals and cleaning the floor on her own. The food was basic but tasty. All of our plates were emptied and everybody enjoyed what they had. You do get what you pay for so we werent expecting amazing 5 star cuisine but what we did have was decent and filled a gap for sure, the chips were no doubt frozen as would be expected in a place with irregular trade as were some elements of the other meals but this doesnt make it bad. We also purchased a carvery for the dog, 4.50 I believe it was. We had our own bowl with us so transferred it into here for him. He had two slices of gammon and two slices of what looked like pulled beef. We did try both and despite the beef looking rather dry and poor on the carvery itself both were prettt decent. The roast potatoes were only cheap frozen ones I think and the veg was basic and not the freshest but for the price it was more than ok. Even though we brought it for the dog we would have been happy enough to eat it For the price. For 19 we had 4 meals and I had a pint of Pepsi aswell, if that isnt value I dont know what is! The ham and prawn bap we had was again served on a frozen roll (thawed of course for our meal) but it was a large roll with enough filling and served with a decent portion of chips and mixed salad. The only thing I would say is that they use cheap sachets so no Heinz ketchup on site. Really not the end of the world but I am a sauce snob so thats just preference but I Always think decent sauce should be served with food as it makes the difference and doesnt add to the cheapness of meal but enhances it instead. In summary a decent meal for the price and would go again for food or drinks as all happy with food and felt welcomed by the staff even with two under one year olds and a dog they catered for us all and it was a lovely afternoon"
