"I visited this restaurant for Sunday lunch and I can't recommend it highly enough. To start, I had the black pudding fritters, which were coated in a light, crispy batter and served with a delightful wholegrain mustard aioli that complemented the dish perfectly. For my main course, I opted for the roast beef, which was tender and flavorful. The accompanying sides were all cooked to perfection, with a special shoutout to the tenderstem broccoli in cheese sauce (possibly black bomber?) and the gigantic homemade Yorkshire puddings. The selection of real ales was excellent; I tried both the OSB Headmaster and the Ship Special brewed by Moorhouses, and both were well-maintained. Lastly, the service was polite, friendly, and very attentive. We will definitely be returning!"

I went on Christmas Eve with my two sons, and the food was incredible! The waitstaff went above and beyond to ensure we were happy with everything. We will definitely be visiting again soon. Thank you very much, The Ship!

I can see why this place has so many good reviews. Spent a little more than we usually would, but this was on boxing day and was well worth it. The chorizo and prawn starter was delicious and the lasagna was perfect. Staff were all lovely too.

Really nice pub and setting on a nice day for food etc, dog friendly pub, staff really pleasant and accommodating, food right up there with the best traditional dishes, it's been a few years since my last visit but I will be returning alot sooner next time.

The food was excellent, especially the sandwiches. I was pleasantly surprised by both the portion sizes and the quality, considering it was a buffet. There were generous portions of ham and chicken, all of which was delicious. The beer selection was also impressive and quite enjoyable.

Without a doubt, this is the best roast dinner I’ve ever had. I went for the beef roast, and it was cooked to perfection. The gravy was delightful—rich in flavor but not too overwhelming—and the vegetables were cooked just right, with a nice crunch. I will definitely be returning soon to enjoy another one of these fantastic roasts. Truly perfection!

I visited spontaneously on Good Friday and my wife and I ordered fish goujons on a baguette. Unfortunately, there was more batter than fish in the goujons, and the baguette was quite soft and could have benefited from being warmed up to achieve a crunchier texture. We also ordered skinny fries, a medium Pinot Grigio, and a pint of Peroni, which brought the total to just under £39. I've been here many times before and found the main meals to be pricey but very good, but this time was a disappointment.

"This is a review based only on take away food and from over take aways, so not a one off. One of the biggest surprises to us was the variation in quality from one week to the next. An example of this is that...a Tandoori mixed grill one week was so good, my partner had it again the next week, second time it was almost covered in a slimy coating and not at all pleasant. This also happened with a lamb Rogan josh, top quality one week, a few weeks later it tasted more like a pudding (more of this later). The quality of the meat, be it chicken, lamb or prawn has been generally absolutely top quality, large tasty pieces of meat, larger pieces than most other takeaways and good quality too. The side dishes have been generally good to. Price wise Holdi is expensive, there is no question about this and when the food is good quality I do not mind paying for it, the inconsistency we have encountered doesn’t warrant these prices to be honest. However, the biggest issue we have with Holdi is sweet curries, so often we have all of us) said this tastes sweet try it yourselves. It’s sweet to a point that it becomes a bit weird and not what you want from a curry. In addition to this have a look at the menu, about times it must say a sweet dish! We have avoided these and still received a sweet dish, the last one a sweet chicken jalfrezi…? Finally, when its around for a takeaway, chuck in a few poppadoms most other restaurants and takeaways do, it is a nice gesture."
