This cozy countryside tavern has a local feel, without the pretentiousness of a trendy gastro pub. The food was also enjoyable.

We were spoilt for choice with good ales, and the food was seriously good, including substantial and tasty nachos and fish and chips that could have come from a proper chippy they were so good. All the staff were really friendly, too, and the garden was a lovely spot in the sunshine.

The pub and staff were very friendly, the food was good, and the beer was excellent. However, the decor could use some updating as it looks worn out (possibly due to the end of a busy season). The pub is located near towpath walks that go on for miles, making it a great spot for a leisurely stroll. Overall, the service and location both receive a score of 5 out of 5.

I stopped by for some afternoon coffee and enjoyed sitting in their garden by the river. The young lady who served us at the bar was very friendly and brought our coffees outside. The drinks were hot, well presented, and came with a nice sized biscuit on the side. The Ship is a local favorite and conveniently located near several holiday parks for Lodge, Caravan, or Motorhome stays, as well as being a residential area itself. It is very popular with locals and tourists alike. The river is located next to the car park and is a stop for the York river bus service. There is a picturesque pathway along the river for those who enjoy walking.
