"We called in here on 14th of Apr for Sunday lunch after a recommendation. It was 1.40pm when we arrived and we were given a table for two and informed that because of a large lunch party waiting there would be a wait until they were served. We were ok with that and ordered 2 roast beef lunches. We had a drink and watched the football. It was 2.10pm when the waitress brought our lunches but unfortunately the chef had plated up lamb instead of beef. He had got mixed up. Time was getting on so we accepted the lamb. The appearance looked very basic indeed. Two slices of lamb, which were on the tough side, mixed veg of green beans, peas and three skinny slices of carrot that were swimming in gravy. Three pieces of what looked like roast potatoes which had been kept warm so the outers had gone tough. We persevered and finished what we could. The waitress came over and asked if we would like dessert instead we complained about the quality of the meal along with the chef's mistake. All in all very disappointing. To be fair they halved the price of the bill admitting their errors. Perhaps the whole episode was maybe to do with the chef not being able to cope with the size of the party but he should be able to tell the difference between beef and lamb."

Landlord and staff are always helpful and accommodating as we have found the 2 times we've visited. Food is basic pub grub and consistent.

Great food, quick and friendly service. Massive garden, includes 3 Pétanque Pistes with a great club, plays on Tuesday evenings from April September.

A very pleasant village pub, serving reasonably-priced pub grub. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Clearly a very popular Saturday evening venue!

We have had Sunday lunch at the Talbot today to celebrate a birthday. We had Turkey which came with roast potatoes, sausage wrapped in bacon, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, gravy and 3 x veg. All was delicious. One of our party had pork and the crackling was amazing!!!!! We will definitely be back and would recommend.

Outstanding! Went for a meal with the family. 6 of us at short notice the Saturday before Easter. The landlord and staff were warm, welcoming and acomodating (4 year old with us). The menu is interesting and varied. Once our food had arrived it was immediately obvious that all the food was freshly cooked and homemade by a chef with skill. Absolutely delicious and I would not hesitate to recommend this pub to anyone looking for a delicious homecooked meal near Peterborough. Thank you

Excellent local pub set in the village of Stilton. As a Guinness drinker it's always a great pint, well poured, clean pipes and glass. The staff are very accommodating and friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. A really large garden which is great to have a drink or a meal in during the warmer months. The pub has multiple TV screens showing all the big sporting events and the ability to show two events at the same time on seperate screens. Food is standard pub fayre and not overpriced. A really great asset to a lovely village.

We have stayed here on a couple of occasions over the past few weeks, in our Campervan whilst travelling en-route down the A1. It is a traditional village pub, that serves a selection of Ales together with an extensive menu. We use to live in Stilton many years ago, and so was delighted when visiting again after some 30 years, that the pub was still very much the centre of the village. There was a very warm welcome from the bar staff, and the landlord was busy in the kitchen making everything happen. The food is all freshly prepared and is presented beautifully. We will certainly be going back when next up in the area.

"We 're looking forward to trying the Pheasant again on a normal day. We went on Boxing Day and it was pretty disastrous. Meant to be a treat but it certainly wasn 't. Starters were nice, no cooking involved apart from the pesto. Then the mains. The beef was grey, not pink as I was told it would be but it was tender. The roast potatoes tasted a bit old but there were plenty. The Chantenay carrots were very soft. The Savoy cabbage was perfect but the portion was tiny. The gravy was nice but we got a different variety when we asked for more. The Yorkshire pudding was the main disaster; it seemed old, and very hard to the point of shattering. Desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was fine although the serving of sauce was very mean. The clotted cream with it is, in my opinion, the best way to serve this pudding, it 's a relief from all the sweetness. The apple crumble was terrible; it came in a bowl with the custard already in it with the pudding. The apple was sour and the crumble was squidgy stodge. The service was fine although some staff not yet fully professional. We would have expected a welcoming hello and goodbye but that didn 't happen. Our overall feeling was that there was serious penny pinching going on with the mains and desserts but this is a very bad idea when you are judged on your last meal but we do intend to try again because it 's such a wonderful building and we 've had many good experiences in The Pheasant, perhaps before the present owners, we 're not really sure."
