"Thank you Waterhouse for an exceptional lunchtime experience. Warm welcome, clean tables and immaculately turned out staff at the front of house and in the kitchen. I wanted to support a community beneficial and independent establishment so that’s two boxes ticked! I wasn’t expecting it to be much more than a canteen with clean but chaotic service. How wrong I was! Professional and excellent service from the moment we walked in, delicious lemonade flavoured drinks with organic and additive free ingredients, best coffee I’ve tasted in a long time, nicely presented and well cooked curry (could have been a bit spicier for my taste but I appreciate it needs to suit all tastes not just mine! with rice and a homemade nan, sticky warm chocolate brownie with ice cream and change from £25 for two of us having lunch. You’d pay more than that for Starbucks lunch for two and none of the profit benefits the community! Anyway thank you Waterhouse Restaurant. Spectacular location, lovely staff and clean wholesome surroundings."

Nice food run by the Shoreditch Trust that enables youngsters to learn a trade. Food is cheap and cheerful. We always come here for a group outing.

Love the charitable purpose behind this restaurant (Shoreditch Trust). The food is great. Attractive interior and outlook. Fresh quality ingredients. Friendly service. Fun soft drinks. Liked the fish curry special. I will come back again.

You need to be looking for this place to find it, but it's worth seeking out. It's run by a trust that helps staff acquire training and skills and they certainly seemed prompt, friendly and cheerful. The roasted squash, kale, feta, flaked almond and chilli warm salad was absolutely lovely, the coffee spot on. I have eaten far worse in the Proud Archivist, opposite, for twice the price.

My colleague and I enjoyed a great business meeting here. Perfect Hackney location, by the water, and very nice coffee. I enjoyed a fantastic and creative veggie all day breakfast with halloumi, avocado, scrambled egg, beans, mushrooms, bread and my colleague had lovely fresh poached salmon. I like how the kitchen is open plan so you can see (and smell) the chefs at work! Will 100% be going back and excited to sample an evening meal, and their wine! Really friendly staff as well. We recently held our Wedding Reception at The Waterhouse Restaurant. The service was friendly, the food was great, as always. The team worked to a high standard and all of our guests were very happy. The venue itself is in a beautiful spot near the Regent's Canal, where our guests had drinks before the meal was served. It really is a hidden Gem. We were looking for a friendly relaxed place with great food, reasonable prices, top service and having an outdoor space by the canal was a bonus. We weren't disappointed. We didn't have to ask for anything except that they play our song. Thank you, we'll be visiting again.

I really like the idea of this restaurant supporting the Shoreditch Trust. It has an impressive canal side location and the first visit was very pleasant. Food was nice, service was friendly. Second visit wasn’t quite up to scratch; as expected the restaurant gets really busy over lunchtimes and service struggles to cope. However, on this visit we ordered the daily special of Jerk Chicken. What was served was not jerk chicken, it was breaded fragrantly spiced chicken. Disappointment from expectation followed, and disappointment is what ruins a dining experience. All in all though, a hidden gem if you happen to work in the vicinity.

I find it amazing how popular the Regent's canal venues have become. The Waterhouse is on the canal but not on the walking side (access via Orsman Road and is consequently much quieter than the other venues but is a little gem excellent food and great service. We held a party for our son's christening and were extremely happy. The service was fantastic (thank you Neringa! very thoughtful during the planning stage with helpful suggestions and on the day the chef even made play dough for the children! It felt a bit like a wedding with great food inside and drinks on the terrace watching the traffic on the towpath and longboats pass by. View menu

This was an event which need to know any dietary requirements before hand for their buffet style spread. The staff were excellent and very attentive to needs, cleanliness and service. I requested vegan food, as I am vegan, which there were two items on offer, a polenta cake style option and lots of vegetable pakoras. These were both very tasty and obviously cook to perfection. The non-vegans had a wider range of items which is normally the case. However none of the dips were vegan, of which there were 4, which once again means lack of participation in the enjoyment of eating arena. Considering the multitude of food which can be created with out animal products it is a shame there was not one...

I booked the restaurant for a private dining event for a special birthday. From the first email to contact them to the last goodbye on the night Shell, Lawrence and their team were friendly, courteous and efficient. In the run up to the night they made the arrangements easy and accessible, were happy to discuss food preferences if needed and made it easy to organise a big group. On the night we were met with the same level of service, with a smile, and the team that night went the extra mile to make our event happily and well. Delicious food, excellent service, kindness and extra-care with my guests on the night made it a successful and happy private dining event. We are all delighted with th...

"A friend and I stumbled on to this neighbourhood restaurant by chance; no research, no booking, no expectations. We were then blown away by the quality of the food: wonderfully fresh fish, beautifully cooked. The service is also exemplary. I've always enjoyed calamari, but this was by far the best I've ever had: truly succulent and juicy. The mussels were almost as good, and the sea bream kept up the standard. The spiced quince with ice cream made a nice change from baclava in a Turkish restaurant (they still threw in some baclava). The owner, Tony, provides excellent recommendations — make sure you take them! He knows what's fresh that morning, and how his wife cooks it. The bill comes hand-written, and Tony forgot to include the wine (obviously I corrected him). I can't remember the last time a restaurant bill made a mistake in the customers' favour! No service charge is included, and it deserves a lot more than the usual 12.5%. This is a wonderful, old-fashioned restaurant, run by a charming old couple, committed to maintaining old-fashioned standards. The food is more than great and the prices more than reasonable. Service is personal, honest and responsive (providing Tony turns his hearing aid on). Tony warns you if anything you wanted was bought in, rather than home-made. Why don't unassuming but wonderful restaurants like this get Michelin stars?"
