"We visited here for the first time last Sunday, as a family group of 8 ranging from 7 to 70 (with a reservation), and everyone came away very happy. From the picture postcard cuteness of the village I'd expected the pubs to be a bit upmarket and chi chi, but the Wheatsheaf felt like a classic country pub, very warm and welcoming with lots of quirky traditional charm no glossy blonde wood in sight. We were seated at a comfy table in a cosy side room, and served with super friendliness and amazing speed. Drinks were great some excellent beer and the food menu proved perfect, a great set of pub classics with a few interesting new angles and an impressive veggie selection. It being Sunday most of us went for the roast, which was brilliant, a generous few slabs of perfectly cooked (to my taste anyway) beef, some gorgeously crispy roast potatoes, and an excellent yorkshire pudding, all swaddled in plenty of good gravy, plus a couple of side dishes with the veg, including a really delicious (and apparently famous) cauliflower cheese. One of our party went for the fish pie, which also looked good and was apparently very tasty. The staff were never intrusive but always seemed to be around when top ups were needed, and were super flexible catering for the picky little ones. A delightful pub which I fully intend to visit as often as I can."

I think this is the 1st full 5 star review I've made. My favourite pug in England. Stunning garden in a very peaceful village. The food is great well priced, the service is fast and everyone at the pub is friendly. Parking: Maybe 5-7 spaces and a few more on the road. Although it's normally a quiet pub. Wow! The most unwelcoming, unfriendly pub on the planet! Walked on Christmas Day, called in and asked for a quick drink to revive us from a long walk in the rain ….. and told ……NO! They refused to let us buy a drink. In a pub. On Christmas Day! All the staff wore an expression like a slapped backside. Absolutely vile. The whole place looked like your grandmas front room and smelt of cabbage so probably just as well.

We came across the Wheatsheaf after a quick Google Maps search for a place to eat and we felt very pleased with ourselves with such a lucky find. The pub itself is wonderfully olde worlde with an open fire and dark wooden beams. For lunch, there was a great selection of larger meals (around the £14 £17 mark) but we opted for 'light lunches ' (around the £7.50 £9 mark) which were extremely filling, delicious and the chips were exceptional I rarely say that about chips!
