"We hit the Wheatsheaf on a Saturday evening after we'd found other pubs shut their kitchens. It's an honest town pub, kept St Austell Tribute pale ale well, and had a straight-forward menu. It's not a foody pub, it's not a football-on-TVs- everywhere pub, it's...got a petanque patch, a giant chess set and a thoroughly relaxed attitude. I felt at home there, and not out of place, as one can find in some small places. We had filled jacket potatoes with our choice of fillings. They were freshly cooked and not re-heated from days ago, and on a hot evening away from home, the Wheatsheaf shone. Oh, it's not desperately modern or quaint or , it's an honest town pub. Recommended."

Today our group of eight again visited here,I had a large cod, garden peas and chips for a change, followed by a very large Belgian Waffle ,two scoops of vanilla ice cream and maple syrup. The lunch was very hot had to wait a little while for it...to cool down, really enjoyed it. Washed down as usual with a pint of beer shandy.Full marks for the chef and service.

can not beat the wheatsheaf, it is a good old fashion pub with a bar and lounge areas separated by a glass and wood partition. eating is a great pub food with the best omelettes in thornbury. it has a conical path and a pool space away. of the bars. some of the beers is a bit expensive compared to other thornbury hostelries, but it is worth the ambiente des pubs. the log fire is very welcome on a cold february day.

in the last weeks we enjoyed our Sunday roast in the wheatsheaf. the food has always been excellent, the veg fresh, the bratkartoffeln crispy and the homemade yorkshire puddings are beautiful. Today we had the bubble boar, for a change, it...was simply the best booze I ever had, nice delicate, but the crunchy was crisp as it should be. if they are after a proper frying dinner, there are no frozen, reheated müll here, the wheatsheaf is absolutely the best place to go.

Another pub that could so easily be better but they start off with a very unimaginative menu. Chicken wings for a starter at not for me. Either it's a very large portion or grotesquely overpriced. Fish and Chips good. From a very limited...list of puddings Belgian waffle and ice cream with maple syrup sounded the best it wasn't as the texture of the waffle was like rather stale bread. I thought the lady so busy cleaning the tables' when so obviously busy listening to our clearly fascinating conversation was going to draw up a chair and sit down with us.

the sign outside says “good food”, but this is a massive understatement. Sunday dinner (we had bark and black versions) was phenomenal. both meats were excellent quality cuts and became perfection, as delicate as they come. the companion was beautiful and...fein, not cooked to tasteless oblivion like some places. nice hauch was the extra heavy jug, if necessary. the place itself was beautiful and traditional looking, with friendly and helpful staff. Price-quality ratio also excellent, I paid more than twice their prices for meal times, which were a tenth of the quality.

Today a very depleted group through illness visited the Wheatsheaf here in Thornbury.I chose the home cooked Chile Chicken wings to start, with a large Scampi, chips aned salad for the main, the meals were huge we were all very full and happy afterwards,I took away one Large...Scampi salad and chips for a lady who always comes with our group,we had just finished our meals and the extra order delivered on a plate well wrapped up in s ilver foil and cling film, when our driver turned uo early.I had my usual pint of beer shandy to wash down the meal.Well done all concerned at the Wheatsheaf.

"We booked our family Xmas dinner there was very excited for it tbh , when we arrived the waitresses was friendly and amazing really good staff especially the young girl waiting our table , unfortunately when the food came was very disappointing I think my meat was lamb but the slices was so thin it almost seemed packet store bought again the carrots we had 3 slices very small and not even a quarter of a parsnip and a ball of something. That was mashed and the potatoes was simply lacking the gravy was nice aslo the condiments but then the desserts came and unfortunately followed suit with the sicky toffee pudding was obviously brought in and microwaved and hot held for a long time as there was a layer about the size of the top of my little finger that was hard and dried out basically and to top it off we let the waitress know some was orders with custard as it’s all pre ordered next thing we know the chef was at our table with her back up letting us know we was wrong untill we showed her the order form un professional tbh we was paying up to 30£ per person for this and from a table full of chefs and waitresses stand point never really do reviews but as it’s a lovely place thought needed to be said as a professional you need to hear the negatives to improve otherwise people will say it’s good and never return , bar staff front of house staff 10 out 0f 10 thou"
