"The Red Lion is a very friendly place, both in terms of the clientelle and the wait staff. It's a gorgeous old pub, although the inside isn't quite as beautiful as the exterior due to some modernising touches. The prices are fair. We did find that in our main courses there were some overwhelming choices in terms of sauces bream with a very strong wine sauce, and a Chinese dish that had a very strong sweet soy base which was too strong for a broth. I think that the more traditional meat dishes are probably the way to go. We enjoyed our evening."

"The wife treated me to a day off from cooking the family roast, we have two go to’s for fabulous roasts but she chose to look for somewhere new and read some reviews and chose The Dove. We turned up the girl behind the bar asked if we had a reservation and we said yes, she then just pointed to a table and said that’s yours over in the corner!!! Don’t think I’ve ever had that happen in my life! Who does that. Usually you get shown to your table with menus ! Anyway we sat down and the table was so sticky. What with the lazy waitress and the sticky table alarm bells already ringing! Eventually asked if we wanted drinks then we ordered the main. Both went with beef. Food arrived, beef was really nice and cooked to perfection. Three roast potatoes, one was crispy the others were soft, cabbage could of done with some seasoning. Gravy was thickish and quite nice but overall. I’d give it a 3/4 out of 10. Asked for bill then my wife had to go to bar and ask again. Not the best sorry. Still the Corner House Canterbury taking the crown for impeccable roasts service."

"The food was incredible—everything was piping hot and bursting with flavor. I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had! The restaurant itself is stunning, with a lovely ambiance that enhances the dining experience. The staff were a highlight; they were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and provided excellent service. I definitely plan on returning whenever I can since it exceeded my expectations. I must mention the scotch egg—it was out of this world! I didn't take a moment to snap a photo, but I can confidently say it was the best scotch egg I’ve ever tasted. I highly recommend trying it!"

"despite its relative proximity to our house it is surprising that we did not visit the rose and krone before. in the did it would not have been discovered to contain her menu muscles, we probably still visit; that would have been our loss....The rose and krone proved to be a joyful, airy, clean and welcoming. some of a family-affair, we were greeted by a lady who prepared the tables in front of the building, the mother of the renter. the menu is interesting and offers a selection of different things. our selection for beginners: muskeln and king prawns packed in speck were both well cooked and very tasty. the most important courses were skate wing and battered cod. the skate was so good that she seemed to disappear with an indecent haste. the same could be said for the cod, but only the half of it could be ended before a sweet full of muscles that were cried around gnad was no longer that please. we will return to the rose and krone, it is only about five miles from the center of chelmsford, easy to find and very favorable."

"On first impressions, lovely place in the village, lovely rooms, very clean, comfy bed, the room I was in, lovely decor, this was booked by my workplace we thought breakfast was included within the price they paid, in the morning of leaving we ordered a full English breakfast which was £11.50, we also had a pot of tea, fresh orange juice toast, when we came to check out, my bill was £17.50, I have never stayed anywhere where I've had to pay extra for a cup of tea, it's normally included within your breakfast price, so please don't be fooled by these extra prices for a pot of tea, fresh orange juice toast, also no cereal available, which is unusual for an establishment not too offer, so this is the reason why I haven't given it 5 star rating, as I thought this was quite disappointing in my opinion, otherwise not a bad hotel, this was a work trip, I can't comment for the menu as we ate elsewhere on the evening, but I just wanted others to know before they maybe ordered the above items. Just giving my honest opinion of my overall stay."
