"A very pleasant pub/restaurant with an excellent menu and wine list. Popular with locals and visitors alike. Will's culinary skills are amazing, with standards that one would expect in a top restaurant, and we have not found a worthwhile competitor in this area. Front-of-house standards are equally good with Sophie's attention to detail and her excellent rapport with customers. A busy evening before Christmas which had clearly been well planned with excellent staff providing an unhurried dining experience under Sophie's supportive role. We will be back!"

Sheps bitter had a twang to it, think the pipes may need cleaning more often.

Amazing roast beef dinner! Portion size was perfect and the beef was so tender and tasty. The Yorkshire was excellent and such a good portion of veg (all cooked to perfection! . The chocolate sponge pudding was gorgeous and the selection of drinks was great. Lovely experience can’t wait to come back. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 View menu

Absolutely lovely pub in the middle of gorgeous countryside near Canterbury. Small, but homely. Excellent set lunch menu £33.50 even on Saturdays. Our food was copious and delicious, the staff kind and helpful. Not sure about their choice of wines by the glass, but otherwise a great time was had by all. Recommended. Called in to this beautiful country pub on spec hoping for a light lunch, mid way through a woodland walk with our dog Barney, and received a warm and friendly welcome. We were very luck that a table for two was available and we were served the most gorgeous soup from a spectacularly tempting menu. The absolutely stars of the meal though were the bread rolls home made, stuffed with olives, sun-dried tomatoes, completely delicious with home made butter. We will be back, and with a reservation next time.

"Having been to the Phoenix several times and I believe, this to be my second average review of the food and service, you 'd think they would have taken heed, but clearly not. Firstly, like most top end restaurants in London, they are reserving the right to charge for no shows £20 per head). But, what they are also doing, which is very unfair, is charging you for cancellations within 24 hours of the booking at £10 per head. If one or more of our friends had fallen ill over night it 's the flu season at the moment), they would have been were forced to go for an expensive average Sunday lunch, whilst spreading their germs to the other diners. It also poses the question, what would some do if you book a table less than 24 hours like we did) and then decide to cancel? The excuse that orders for food have already been placed doesn 't really hold water. The Sunday menu forces you to order a minimum of 2 courses at £34 per head. Some of the top London restaurants are charging less for far more opulent Sunday roasts e.g. the Jugged Hare at the Barbican). The Sunday lunch served was simply very average and not value for money. Finally, why are the desserts here, always consistently so bad? I ordered a baked cheesecake and got cream squirted on a piece of cake. When I asked what I had been served, I was told it was chef 's interpretation of a cheesecake. The menu clearly stated baked cheesecake. Not even in my wildest dreams can you interpret a baked cheesecake as a piece of cake with creamed squirted on it! This was promptly returned and replaced with a vile chocolate tart, with pastry so hard I couldn 't cut into it without the fear of smashing the plate it was served on. The chocolate was over salted and the chantilly cream served with it unsweetened. Save your money, go elsewhere."
