"As stated below, we did return and it was great again. They even lent someone a rain jacket who had forgotten theirs! Previous review... Our walking group started and finished a walk at the Willow Tree today. We had pre-ordered the food a week before. The staff kindly opened the toilets for us before the walk as we had arrived before normal opening hours. On our return two hours later, the lovely food was all ready and quickly delivered to the table. There was a good selection of real ale. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Some of our group had dogs and the pub is very dog-friendly. We will definitely return in the future."

Awful Sunday roast, stewed cabbage, unrecognizable cauliflower cheese and dirty mash potatoes. Worse than school dinners.

Super new menu at last! It’s also good to see some much needed external improvements to the paving and play area being done and, best of all, the beers on offer are just great!

Good local pub that carries a decent atmosphere. I’m a fan of the selection of beers they have on tap, including Neck Oil, Camden Hells and Asahi. Dog friendly. Friendly staff. View menu

Sunday lunch for 6.....oooh we had everything, sooo spoilt. Extra Yorkshire puds, roasties, jugs of gravy. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was attentive, just excellent with a good, but perfect dash of humour. Such a wonderful family atmosphere. I can't recommend the Willow Tree enough. But don't take my word for it. As you're missing a treat if you don't go and enjoy yourself.

"We live about 25 miles from East Bridgford and have friends who live nearby and also in Newark on Trent, and have once previously called in to the Royal Oak for a drink. Today however we had lunch with our friends and it was absolutely marvellous. I had reviewed the menu beforehand and it looked good but I was expecting decent pub fare. My expectations were exceeded. The meals we enjoyed were superb restaurant quality and tasted delicious. This marvellous food was matched with friendly relaxed and happy service which always makes a good meal go very well. I had a lovely light starter of three types of beetroot with goats cheese in a light dressing which was fresh and very, very tasty. To follow, I chose a smoked haddock with green beans in a mustard cream sauce which perfectly cooked and was better than delicious. It was sublime. (It’s normally served with new potatoes but I am avoiding potatoes . My friends variously enjoyed tempura king prawns with chilli dip, braised lamb with mashed potato, steak and ale pie, and fish and chips and one even made it to a sticky toffee pudding finale. Everything was enjoyed. The invisible team in the kitchen deserve 11/10 for the food offer and the full Royal Oak team get five stars+ from us for the whole experience. We will be back. (PS. I’m going to try and recreate that smoked haddock dish at home Any tips on the mustard sauce?"

"I'll start with the positives. The interaction I had on Facebook to book a table, and then change the booking, was very positive. The two young waitresses who served us were great. The pub is shabby with rubbish and cigarette butts scattered outside the door...and a smell of smoke in the doorway. The décor is tired and tatty, and the bench seat in the restaurant area has a big split in it. The floor of the restaurant had bits of food and other rubbish on it. The salt and pepper and vinegar bottle didn't look like they'd been cleaned for a few days. The food was uninspiring, and mostly overcooked. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt black and were mostly inedible (when we commented on this, the waitress said she was too scared of the chef to say anything to him). The roast potatoes were hard and tough. The vegetables (not enough for 6 of us from one dish) were not great and the cauliflower cheese was the most uninspiring I've had for a long time. The lamb was OK, but that's all I can say about it. The whole menu (apart from a goat's cheese salad) was dull and unimaginative, even allowing for the fact that for Sunday lunch on Mother's Day most people want roasts. We didn't bother staying to have desserts. I thought from the TripAdvisor reviews that we were going to a gastropub, or a pub with a super restaurant. It was like having a meal in a pub 30 years ago, which is fine if that's what you want. It was a dreadful experience and not at all the way we wanted to celebrate my son's birthday and Mother's Day. We will not go back again."
