"originally very surprised that the lights were so bright that it ruined any chance of a beautiful atmosphere in a beautiful building. After we had set ourselves, we waited almost minutes before the waiter wanted to take our drinks. I'm not sure what he had to check or why he had to check before we ordered, because it was very quiet. he disappeared and a waitress appeared shortly after and took our job. our appetizers appeared immediately. my squid was treated in what can only be described as flour and water paste that was fried. it was very bland. my friend had the scallops that were good. the main thing was not great. my crispy halibut was tiny and the chips were really terrible. think about soggy palid school dinner chips. the beingeschirr of chard was beautiful, but overall the meal was bad. the cod curry of my friend with rice looked like a teller dog sick and had a massive bone in him, which was unexpected and she would not have chosen it if she had known it so. I've been closing with her. it tasted okay, but looked grim. the service was terrible with taking off the cat who brought the drinks that was very efficient. but he did not take the drinks orders, so we sat drinking water for half time. it's such a shame because it could be really good. sort out the lighting. they lose the gray pink walls and develop a certain content together with the waiting staff. they were all friendly, but not very good at selling food and drinks. on the plus side the fish was very fresh and it is very cheap."

"We have come for years to PFT.. Having our dinner in the restaurant before the performance ensured we had no timing worries and the service team were always very efficient and helpful. We brought our 12 year old grandson to both performances of The Bannf Film show and as we have done in the past we prebooked our meal. The menu seemed fine but when the food arrived the smoked salmon pate starter was disappointing.... more like a squirt of piped fishy cream cheese and a pile of mixed leaves. The soup and goats cheese were ok. My Grandson asked for pasta with Mediterranean vegetables and a tomato sauce. He was served a huge plate of pasta tubes with ugly big lumps of courgette and a small amount of sauce. The look of the plate was anything but appetising. I chose the blade of beef. This turned out to be pulled beef, which had been shaped in a ramekin dish, some pretty stiff creamed potato and a couple of sticks of carrot, served with a spoonful of gravy. It tasted ok but was dry and I had to ask for more gravy, which was brought quickly. We have had this previously and was a favourite. Usually a lovely piece of meat in a tasty gravy with fluffy potato and two vegetables. So disappointed. The choice of sweets were not exciting. Date pudding, a cheese board or a chocolate mousse. My husband had the date pudding, which he enjoyed. Since my grandson and I didn’t fancy dates or the chocolate sweet we chose the cheese board, which used to be wonderful. It now offers a pile of biscuits, a bunch of grapes and three different very small pieces of cheese. Considering the cost of each meal was £29.99, I felt it was quite expensive. Certainly not the quality which we used to have. Everything seems to have been pared back so much that it’s just not the same. We have booked for the shows throughout 2020 and have booked meals for each but will probably change our plans now. Really very disappointed."

"We rarely review eateries, however felt compelled to share our recent experience at this bar/restaurant. Initial impression was good. When we arrived the representative was warm and friendly, showing us to our table. We had a drink while waiting for our friends, during which one member of staff was having a horrific coughing fit, obviously suffering some sort of infection. Another girl at the bar was also coughing loudly. We were then handed ‘menus’ by the same girl who had been coughing uncontrollably. All of the menus were crumpled and filthy/stained. This wasn’t a great start to the evening, given that there are obviously no standards of hygiene being adhered to. Surely the way forward would be to print off a new menu for each customer? That gives the right impression. Even pre-COVID, I would expect a laminated menu that could be wiped down before handing to each customer or a new A4 printed menu for every customer. No one could complain about this and it would cost next to nothing. When the food was dished up, I was told that my chicken had been dropped on the floor and would be a little late. A few minutes later my dish appeared, looking a bit messy and like it had been thrown into the bowl hurriedly. The chicken was tough and vegetables tasteless. Given the disgusting menus, I was worried the whole time that chicken had been scraped off the floor and then presented to me. Needless to say, I didn’t enjoy the meal. Both my partner and I felt rough on the way home and had a dodgy stomach the following day. Surely, if staff are unwell and have a bad cough they should either stay at home or wear a mask to protect others? This is the guidance, but no one seemed to care that the staff were standing at the tables, coughing over the customers and it was very uncomfortable! We were looking forward to our evening, but it seems that a few young members of staff were allowed to do their own thing and no one person seemed to oversee the running of the bar/restaurant. If visiting this establishment, remember to bring your own sanitiser! We won’t be back."

"came for a quick drink. only two employees of what I could see neither recognized by the girls that I came into meaning, I had no idea where I could sit, how to order ect. I came into the bar to ask. if I could charge my phone before I could order something. it was suddenly said I could and what I wanted. I asked for a coffee from the menu outside that courageously said the tavern. but the girl told me it wasn't for there, they don't do a coffee. I said that was good and I took a coke. was asked if I wanted a glass that I found a little strange that I wouldn't give one to sit with. I took the glass no less and asked where I could charge my phone. I was told over there and sung to the tables on the left, so I went over and found nothing. I came back asking where she was, and she stood motionless and said there, did not judge on geste nothing so that I was confiscated. fortunately, a young boy was sitting in the bar and told me that it was part of the Guinness stand and not to fear that I did not see it as it would have pointed to me. I put my phone in and sat down on the sofa in front of the bar, to which the two workers one with colorful hair and another in a hoodie and leggings drove at the bar just a few meters stand of me and speak very loud that it was strange I wanted a glass and that is my phone on the bar, staring at me so that I really feel very comfortable, what I would just leave on this point I would rather sit on absolutely disgusting attitude from the employees will not be back."

"We visited this café as a family after spending a lovely weekend in Pitlochry. Although the café had little to no social media presence and no website, we chose Café Rhubarb due to their good reviews and were excited to visit and support a local business! Upon entering the café with my partner, we quickly picked up on a very unwelcoming atmosphere which was then backed up by a very dismissive, what seemed to be manager, who mumbled at us to sit down. We very quickly felt like an inconvenience. The café itself was not well maintained. The décor was chic but needed updated/maintained. There was a major ventilation issue as there was condensation covering every window and there were plug in heaters around the floor of the restaurant with cables draped over the booths – not a nice atmosphere to relax and enjoy some coffee in, let alone sit and eat breakfast! Our family then arrived, and we asked if there was a way we could sit together, the manager suggested pulling over an extra table if we were to move to another booth. This was a great suggestion, appreciated by myself and my family but what wasn’t appreciated was again, being made to feel like an inconvenience due to the managers dismissive nature. The manager explained that staff had let them down. I can only imagine that with the customer experience being dreadful, the employee experience isn’t much better so understand why there are staffing issues. At this point, we were all taken back by the service so far as it is certainly not what we expected, certainly with our experience of smaller local businesses (usually keen to leave an impression to ensure customers come back! . We thought that maybe the food would make up for the poor welcome… we were wrong. The menu was very limited, pretentious and overpriced. We are willing to spend more on a good meal however the food was not worth even half of what the café are charging. My 9 year old niece ordered banana pancakes without syrup, she was served banana pancakes WITH syrup and was disgusted to find a long blonde hair on top of her breakfast. We sent the meal back and had it replaced with a fresh plate. My partner pulled a long hair out of her coffee, so did not finish the drink. The food in general was very basic and not worth more than what you would pay in a supermarket. Salmon gate… My sister ordered a salmon and cream cheese bagel. When served to her, she immediately felt uncomfortable eating the salmon due to it dull and lifeless colour, not to mention the brown coating on it! We, as a family, enjoy salmon and have NEVER seen salmon look this disgusting. My sister took the meal to the manager and politely explained that she did not want to eat the salmon and had lost her appetite so didn’t want to order another meal. The manager, again, dismissively returned the plate to the kitchen where the chef loudly expressed her frustration with the plate being returned. This was HIGHLY unprofessional and created a, what seemed like it couldn’t get any worse, terrible atmosphere. When paying the bill, the manager rudely interrupted me to say the salmon was taken from the bill which was the least the café could do after an awful experience. The chef then marched out for the kitchen to, again, defend the nauseating salmon. A note to the chef, please simply google how salmon should look, no article online will confirm that salmon should have brown lining/spots. I calmly explained that the price the café pay per kilo for that specific salmon was irrelevant to me, what was important is that my sister was served a meal she did not feel comfortable to eat and that the café had no interest in providing any sort of service to make her feel more comfortable or improve our customer experience. Needless to say, unless the management staff in Café Rhubarb can swallow their unwarranted pride, listen to their customers, we will not be back."

"The menu looks good on paper, but in reality it has a way to go. I opted for the 5 bean vegan chilli with rice and tortilla chips and a black americano coffee. Coffee was OK but incredibly strong so had to ask fora jug of hot water. Veg chilli came very quickly but alas the chilli part was barely warm so I asked for it to be properly heated. When it came back it was still not really hot enough, but the rice was scalding and tortilla chips were rather darker at the edges than they had been. So the whole plate had been in the microwave; plate and rice pretty hot, chilli not! However i decided to risk it...and whilst it was clearly homemade and the flavour wasn 't bad...it was almost completely devoid of beans never mind the 5 varieties (I assume! that were being offered. I counted 7 chickpeas in the whole thing and so I did actually mention it to the waitress, who couldn 't quite believe it and said she 'd ask in the kitchen. However I was actually laughing (she wasn 't as i told her that this was quite funny as it has happened to me before in a different cafe that the 5 bean chili had literally 5 beans in it and so now it 's a family joke. Anyway, on paying the bill a different person asked if it had all been ok so I told her that I 'd mentioned the non- bean situation to my waitress, and so this new person did actually take a couple of quid off my bill, which i thanked her for. (the Mars Bar crispy cake was fine!"
