For anyone who is in or pass through York, Upper River Restaurant should be one of your bucket list to try. "Happened upon this place on a Friday night with no reservation. Beautiful decor and ambience hit us straight away. The staff were so friendly and polite. They were very efficient. Our Waitress was only a young lass and as we had asked a question about the wine she was not sure on, she immediately asked another staff member to advise us. We had beautiful rose wine and as I was toasting my best friend and her birthday which we were celebrating, I noticed in the corner of my eye this lovely young Waitress deliberately hung back as she approached our table until we had finished toasting and sipping our wine. The foot was amazing. I'd say the best Thai green curry I've eaten (and thats saying something! We both couldn't be happier with our Friday night treat. A real gem of a find. Thank you to all staff who made this experience just perfect."

"I usually hesitate to leave negative reviews, but our experience at this restaurant was so utterly disappointing that I feel compelled to share. Despite having made a reservation, upon our arrival, we were met with a distinct lack of hospitality. No staff member greeted us or guided us to our table. Left to our own devices, we seated ourselves and hoped that the service would improve. Sadly, that was not the case. We patiently waited for 20 minutes, hoping for someone to attend to us, but it seemed as though we were invisible. Although several waiters glanced our way, not a single one made the effort to come over, hand us menus or take our order. It was as though we were in a pantomime of a restaurant experience, not the real thing. The lack of basic customer service was astonishing and downright frustrating. Eating out should be a delightful experience, but the blatant disregard for our presence turned what should have been a relaxing meal into an aggravating ordeal. Regrettably, based on this experience, I simply cannot recommend this restaurant. In a city where there are so many dining options available, it is unfortunate that a restaurant would choose to neglect the simple, yet essential aspect of customer service. For those seeking an enjoyable and respectful dining experience, I would advise looking elsewhere."

"7 of us, all veggie or vegan went as it sounds so perfect. The place looks great but the food was not that good. I couldn't eat my ramen, it was so salty. I ate the Katsu curry instead (which I wouldn't have chosen as I never like it, chip shop curry sauce is better We had to remind them of dishes they had forgotten, they bought 6 complimentary misos for the 7 of us! It was expensive, very small portions and all 7 of us didn't like something we had. It's a shame coz it's such a great idea but they need to do it all better. The cocktails tasted fantastic and looked great, but not one of us felt any alcoholic effect and they were before we ate, so not much alcohol and £10 each. Go to Happy Maki instead."

"The Milestone has always been a favourite of ours, but last time we went on a Saturday evening in a party of 8, it had a new chef and was clearly struggling with small portions, cold food and ingredients missing ie the clams in the mussel and clam dish. So, it was with some trepidation to go back for Sunday lunch using a Groupon voucher that we had been gifted. It was back to top class standard food piping hot, good sized portions and quick and accurate service. So glad Paddy and the team have redeemed themselves and kept a loyal customer."

"So happy to find this little place while on holiday. We popped in for coffee cakes we were pleasantly surprised. The gentleman waiting on us was polite and helpful. Everything on the menu was vegetarian with many things able to be made vegan. The cakes were delicious we've recommended pumpernickel to all our veggie vegan friends family if they're in Dumfries. "Tucked away around the corner from Worthing Promenade was the perfect cosy escape from a cold and windy Sunday afternoon. I'd picked Wine Reason to visit as part of celebrations for our ten year anniversary and we were not disappointed. We had such a warm welcome upon arrival and throughout. We shared the vegan Christmas tapas, consisting of a sham-lamb roast (which I believe was locally made), nut roast, soy brussel sprouts, the worlds best roast potatoes, no pigs in blankets and maple glazed panko parsnips. Every element was incredible and such a different experience to your usual roast dinner, which we loved. W R has a huge selection of wines, I chose the Vinho Verde from Portugal which was a beautiful accompaniment to my lunch."

"We have visited a few times over the years and always found the food to be good and for it to have a friendly atmosphere. But the last two visits the service was awful. Only one server for a full restaurant. We were there for...two hours and only had two courses. We were given one drink when we arrived and they never asked us again or checked on us. The water they gave us had no ice in it and was warm. We ordered dessert but after waiting minutes gave up and cancelled it. A very long wait for ice cream. The restaurant is very small and too crowded. And there a constant Deliveroo and Uber drivers coming in and out collecting orders. There was no social distancing and it was so loud we couldn’t have a conversation. It’s a shame because the food is good and portions are generous but we won’t be visiting again."

"After attending a lovely full moon ceremony, we decided to visit Sawasdee on a whim and it turned out to be a fantastic choice! The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the dishes were served piping hot and quickly. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Our drinks and food orders were taken promptly and the dishes arrived quickly, hot, and flavorful. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant had an authentic ambiance at a reasonable price. "I've been here many times and usually go for the duck pineapple red curry or massaman. This time we had the mixed plate starter which includes pork rib chicken satay, fish cake and spring roll. Sauces were satay and sweet chilli. Satay sauce was lovely but the fish cake was some weird spongy texture and was very oily not sure what it was made with. I went for the seafood stirfry for mains which had mussels, unfortunately some of the shells were broken so I had to pick bits out. The squid and prawns were lovely although the sauce was a deep red palm oil consistency and very slippery and splashed on my jacket when I cut some of the squid. The rest of the meal I had to eat the big peices of squid whole for fear of getting more oil on myself. Also this dish is very spicy. My partner had the bbq chicken gai (hot plate dish) which was really tender and delicious. The restaurant was very noisy but then it was Saturday night. Huge table of girls squealing loudly so I had to shout for my partner to hear me across the small table. The service is good and this place is always a good backup but not spectacular."

"I just popped in to see what was on the menu whilst on a walk around town and ended up getting the vegan nuggets, the deep fried tofu was obviously tasty and the sauce and fresh green onions that came with it was excellent. "A few years ago, I came to this restaurant with some friends and was very impressed with the food. I had been meaning to return ever since, so I decided to take my boyfriend. We arrived around 7pm on a bank holiday and were surprised to find the restaurant empty. We ordered a mixed starter with a choice of sweet dips. The chicken satay was chewy and the fish cakes were undercooked. We then ordered soup, which was okay but had visible oil on top. For my main dish, I ordered the green chicken curry, which was decent but lacking in flavor. The chicken did seem fresher than before. Overall, I was disappointed with the food. It did not live up to my previous experience and was not as good as it used to be."

"Absolutely impressive. My boyfriend and I were left thrilled after our visit to you. Warmly greeted on arrival. Sat down and straight away looked after. "I stayed at the Dunston Hall Hotel and to be honest, the food there is not very good. I had lunch there and decided to go somewhere else for dinner. "There isn't much to report. We dined at Mai nine years ago, and by chance, we booked a hotel just around the corner this time. Our expectations were not high (you never know how things can change in nine years), but thankfully Mai Sushi is still a simple establishment with fantastic food. Don't anticipate an ornate interior, as that is not typical Japanese style. Just savor the exceptional dishes. A small suggestion to Mai: please ensure that your payment terminal can accept Maestro cards. After all, it is 2022."
