"First impression sign saying Cafe leads to a corridor. Glazed windows to left with a gloomily lit crèche inside. Follow corridoor, no sign of cafe, but an Italian Deli nearby that sadly doesn’t do breakfast. Second impression competed the 200 yard loop to arrive back at the cafe sign. This time spot that it’s not a crèche but might be a cafe. Paper sign on the door says ‘exit only and please use main entrance’. No clear directions where this might be. Third impression look behind me, check what might be another outer wall of the cafe, dead end, no obvious entry. Fourth impression spot a cash desk and a young lady preoccupied on the screen. Politely ask “Excuse me, how do I get into the cafe?” “It’s outside” accompanied by a vague arm wave, head still down and in a ‘how dare you interrupt me’ tone. Fifth impression: Turn a couple of corners and spot what is probably a cafe entrance up a ramp through some outside tables. Sixth impression: wait at the sign saying ‘please wait to be seated’ for a minute or two, but confused by the fact that there are customers at a counter 5 meters away, several members of staff (albeit that some were on the preparation side of the operation) by no one coming to serve me. Seventh impression: waitress reasonably helpful and the food was very nice (though if you are charging £14 for breakfast, you should never be using horrible cheap vinegary ketchup) but so aggravated by the lead up that it was very hard to enjoy. Overall it’s clearly a reasonably successful business with lots of franchise outlets and what looked like a well stocked core business garden centre but the food offerings g still needs a huge overhaul to achieve its maximum potential. Everything in the cafe was on a make do and mend basis. Fridges blocking the artwork, old outside bin reused inside, cheap ketchup as mentioned and many others. They were doing a tiny fraction of the food business that other garden centres in the region would be doing at this time of day and it’s not the food that’s lacking but the organisation, signage and (presumably) leadership."

"We visited the Swanage Railway, and on returning to the Town fancied a small afternoon snack and a cuppa. Beavers Restaurant looked ideal. The first point to make is that as far as we are concerned this is a Cafe, not a Restaurant, despite the...name. My missus selected a ham salad, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I selected a tuna mayonnaise sandwich. I also asked for some onion and tomato on the sandwich. It was perfectly ok, although the bread was the bland sliced wholemeal, the factory stuff that you buy in a supermarket, rather than a bakers. There was no side salad or crisps like many cafes garnish sandwiches with. For drinks a pot of tea and a can of of diet 7 Up were selected. We then asked for the bill. At a smidgen under £20 I took a closer look. £5.95 for the salad, and £1.99 for the tea was fair enough. But £2.75 for a can of diet lemonade that is no more than 40p in a supermarket multi pack. What a rip off. But It got worse. We had been charged £8.95 for the tuna sandwich. I queried this, as it was only £5.95 on the menu. It was confirmed as being correct, as the extras, namely a bit of tomato and a bit of onion were charged at £1.50 each! To be fair, it has to be said that the price of these 'extras ' is shown on the menu, but that does not excuse the sheer greed of this establishment in charging £3 to add a few bits of tomato and onion to a sandwich. I feel fortunate that I didn 't ask for a slice of cheese to be added as well I would probably have had to re mortgage the house!"

"As a group of three couples with a yong child, we were all excited to visit Cafe Rhubarb, the reviews were good, as was the cafe’s location in Crieff. Unfortunately from the moment we walked through the door our experience was poor and only got worse. The staff were all quite rude and the atmosphere was unwelcoming. We very quickly felt like an inconvenience. The menu looked great, a bit on the pricey side, but we were happy to pay more based on the foot being of good value. Unfortunately, the food that was served did not reflect the quality, the price or the reviews. We ordered pancakes with banana for our wee one, it arrived with a long hair which later was made clear to have come from the chef who came out without a hairnet. The salmon bagel arrived in an undesirable brown colour, the £7 two slices of french toast were both burnt, and we had to remind the waiting staff of drinks that were not delivered. We also had to ask for cutlery, salt and sauces after the food had been delivered. We were happy to leave the salmon without a replacement meal. The chef made loud comments about the salmon, which could be heard from the kitchen. It was made unpleasantly clear that she (the chef) was unpleased that our party didn’t wish to eat a the salmon. The cafe itself has an evident condensation issues. As all the windows, mirrors and even the toilet walls/mirrors and floors were soaked in condensation. The humidity was quite uncomfortable and did not make for the nicest environment to enjoy a meal. My partner being a National customer experience trainer, tried speaking with the server about removing the salmon from the bill. We were met with a very rude and defensive chef and server, who were very loudly and rudely defensive. This created a very uncomfortable atmosphere for my group and undoubtedly for the the rest of the cafe. Some of the food served was lovely and quite enjoyable, so we really hope that the cafe consider their approach when dealing with customer service in the future. We hope they address issues with health and safety like the condensation and the lack of a hairnet from their chef."

"This is my personal best choice for restaurant in Hunstanton and here’s to why. Staff are really really welcoming and sweet and this alone hits my five stars given straight away. They are not only polite and friendly, but also something else made me a very nice impression, something you could easily miss. We entered the place at 16:50 and nobody told us they were closing 17:00, in 10 minutes! Nobody mentioned it at all, we were warmly welcomed, our order taken, served, we ate in total peace until 17:30 etc. not a single sign of rushing or anything! Most restaurants would have probably closed the doors, to demonstrate that it’s time to go, but not here! Not even a gentle reminder, we were treated like friends! About the food totally independent from the above, I loved every bite! The chicken was made, like the absolute perfection! About hygiene the place was sparkling clean (I have experiences of all sorts, this is my not so humble expert opinion here). A couple left shortly after we arrived and I saw two of the waitresses taking the stuff away from the table and with no delay cleaning and disinfecting it so carefully that I presumed it was their own business, never seen such care and total absence of rushing at the end of the day. I also used the toilets and they were immaculate. First time I see restaurant toilets so clean, 5 stars for that too! Last thing prices were spot on. I am quite stingy when it comes to value for money and you get the best of it here. Location is quite easy to find. Will definitely be returning when in Hunstanton again!"
