"Best place to eat in Inverness by far! We spent a week exploring the beautiful city of Inverness and were so pleased to have discovered this gorgeous cosy bistro! Richard is a kind and friendly owner who really takes an interest in his customers. The rest of the staff are charming and hospitable. The food is on a league of its own and the portion sizes are very generous! We definitely recommend the haggis bon bons and goats cheese tartlet! Absolutely delicious! We can't wait to come back! "Tonight there were 14 of us gathered at the same table. Some had 3 courses, some had 2 and some had 1 plus drinks. Any food uneaten was down people unable to eat any more because the portions so generous and the food beautifully cooked and presented. We are had a wonderful time and the waiters and waitress were excellent and often joined in our banter which just added to everyones enjoyment I must that I originally booked for 4 persons, rang last night to ask to change it to 10 and at lunchtime today to change it to 14 as more family wished to join us. The persons amending the booking always courteous and friendly. Thank you all for contributing to a wonderful family get-together and hope we can return at some point in the future.we"

"Ok, I will make a disclaimer-this is my local. Earlier this year the pub changed hands. Many in the village were apprehensive about the new owner taking over. The Bird had been in the same family for over 30 years and they were very much loved and respected, and lets face it-no one likes change. However, we are nearly seven months down the line and I can honestly say The Bird is still an absolute asset to the community. Yes, there have been changes-long standing staff have sadly left, who were all part of the furniture-and have been replaced. However, the new faces have proved to be excellent in their hospitality and friendliness. Special mentions to Ethan, Ebony and Chris, who always give a welcoming smile and are happy to engage with everyone and give excellent service. With Jason and the team back in the kitchen the food is as good as it has always been. So to those of you who may have stayed away since Colin moved on, please, visit again soon, you won't be disappointed. The pub is due to shut for a few weeks from 15th Jan for a refit. Investment is being made and I am sure things will only improve further. Merry Christmas to all staff and customers at the Bird In Hand, Saltford!"

"A lovely spot overall. The food is decent and reasonably priced. The service is quite satisfactory; there was a minor mix-up when ordering at the bar, but the waitress and kitchen staff readily corrected it after serving the food. Overall, it's a pleasant and straightforward place to dine. While parking is limited, there is a nearby short-stay car park that offers one hour of free parking. Price per person: £10–£20."

For main I had the classic burger which out of hundreds I tasted is right now top one for presentation flavour tenderness all you want in a burger! My partner had the Portuguese speciality little French was she was so in love with it that she is trying to replicate the sauce at home!! For desert we had slice of homemade carrot cake and chocolate fudge and again top quality! "I attended the cafe on my own, the welcome was so warming and friendly, the aesthetic of this cafe is so calming I enjoyed looking around at all the stuff on the walls service was fast and easy I had my coffee and toastie in good time after ordering. The ice coffee was unreal I would recommend trying the ice coffee with roasted hazelnut syrup ! Amazing portion sizes for such a good price. My Ham and cheese toasted on brown seeded bread was unreal it is not over complicated just what you want. The salad on the side was refreshing I usual don’t touch salad and not bothered with it but it was finished before my toastie the cafe filled up quickly and the men worked so hard and well together to get orders out, I loved this beautiful cafe and will have to visit again !! "We were on a short break in Thirsk in late September and looked for a pub that did food. We walked into the Black Lion and were immediately given a very friendly welcome by the landlord/owner and the locals already in there. We spotted some people with what looked like nice meals at the back so asked if we could have a drink first and then have something to eat. Of course! was the reply. When I mentioned that the lady in our party needed a bright table because of an eye problem, the locals, immediately, without being asked, got up from a brightly lit round table in the window and guided us to it. Our drinks were delivered to the table as soon as we were ready for another round, and then when our meals arrived, the food was lovely. The landlord had put us on a tab when we arrived and when we paid at the end of the evening, the cost was very reasonable. The landlord had even sent someone to the local shop to get orange juice, because they had run out, for one of our drinks. The beer was really nice as well. We were that impressed that we booked for the next night, and when we arrived they had set out the same brightly lit table in the window for us. Very nice thank you. We again had some more rounds of their delicious beers, and then a very nice meal again. All in all a great duo of nights. We will return to Thirsk and will definitely visit the Black Lion again."

"We visited here on New Years Eve for a meal and one of our children has an egg allergy. As usual wherever we go, we told our waitress about this to ensure that his meal didn 't contain any egg. We were assured that there was no egg in the food he had ordered. However, partway through the meal it became obvious that he had eaten egg. We then had to leave most of our meal and cut our evening short . . . after paying £100+ for the pleasure! We did tell the lady that we paid why there was so much food left and all she said was Oh, we 're usually very good with allergies. Thank goodness it 's not a life threatening allergy to him!"

"Had been recommended but was disappointed with the experience. Had a bit of a cafe feel to the restaurant but on the whole, atmosphere was ok. Ordered a couple of Ribeye steaks. £29 per steak which is fine if the meat is exceptional quality but it was distinctly average, slightly chewy and not enough fat through the middle of the steak for a ribeye. The chips however, were really really good! Bottle of red was very average. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert was underwhelming and dry. Service was below par and not friendly. For the price paid you would expect much more and then had the cheek to add on a 10% service charge. Overall, definitely not worth the expensive prices."

"Went here on Thursday 12th October. We have always loved going here but unfortunately we were disappointed with our visit this time. The prices had risen quite a lot since our last visit. We had regular Haddock and chips but felt it was rather bland, not as tasty as usual. The chips were well cooked, not greasy, but there were a lot of very thin bits. Definitely not up to the usual standard that we are used to here. We added bread and mushy peas but were given a bread bun , not the usual slices of bread. "Finding this place after a long day of cycling was a real jackpot! We weren't aware they had a separate vegan menu, so I simply asked to omit some ingredients on our pizza for sweetness. A very friendly staff member informed me that as a vegan, I could have it made exactly as I requested, plus add vegan cheese or even choose from their vegan menu! They prepared it just as I asked, and I wasn't charged anything extra. In fact, I ended up getting a discount and a key ring as well. We decided to take the pizzas to the beach because we didn't feel comfortable sitting inside after our day out. The place had a cozy vibe, and I really hope to return someday."
