"First of all the service was very poor. We waited 20 minutes before being asked for a drink or food order, we need waited a really long time before starter came out and again for dinner. The dinner was shocking. Chewy cheap steak, cheap rubbish fries which were soggy from all the steak juice, and mushrooms hardly cooked. It was awful and £17!!!!!!! When I said how it was, the waitress smiled and said they had quite a few complaints about it! Do not go here.. food and service very very poor."

"Been to this place for dinner , very good place for dining great atmosphere and location. The food is great but service is not very great to many errors made not to just us but also to surroundings customers , we ordered a hallouimi as a starter but they send us chips and when challenged he didn’t brought it until we finished our dinner. Also they charge for water and the guy said it’s for charity they charge . Dessert was nice . Just few hick ups but rest all ok."

"We dined here last night, on an overnight stay in Inverness. I had the homemade chicken liver pate starter, rib eye surf n turf and the date and ginger pudding. My better half had the Prawn and mango starter, rump of lamb, and posset dessert. All carefully crafted, nicely presented and with great produce. The meats and seafood were outstanding. Pleasant staff, always willing to help. A little gem. Forgot to take any pics, as the nosh was too tempting."

"We celebrated my birthday dinner while in Newport, and it was fantastic! My partner accidentally ordered the kirsch garlic bread and wobbly rings alongside our main courses, and we were both shocked at the portion sizes when our meals arrived. I didn't finish my main dish because I wanted to save room for dessert, which was also delightful! The service was quick, even with all the food we had."

"Good to see that following the refurbishment that this still is a pub that caters for drinkers but also provides very good food in the conservatory with tables for dining in the main part of the building. Starters were beef croquettes, feta and filo and calamari. I was worried that the calamari might have been frozen rings but it was a large piece of breaded squid with a sauce and side salad. Could have done with a crispy coating but nonetheless was very good. Mains were smoked haddock fillet with a crispy breadcrumbed poached egg, lambs liver and a flat iron steak. All the meals were excellent. There still is a good variety of beers, lagers and cider could do with a dry cider. Staff were friendly and engaging. We had an enjoyable meal and recommend eating here."

"My experience at the recently renovated Clayton's was fantastic. We enjoyed a quick drink along with olives, homemade hummus, and warm delicious bread. The waitresses were extremely attentive and even gave us a complimentary glass of Prosecco for my friend's birthday. Clayton's used to be my local wine bar, but it had lost its charm over the years. However, it seems like they have won me and my friends back with their impressive service. We will definitely be returning soon."

"Visited here with my daughter and grandparents two weeks ago and wanted to say how impressed we all were. The quality of the meals was of very high standards all round and presented excellently too. Home made desserts were amazing also and I highly recommend the mixed nut frangipane! Everything is very reasonably priced, the service was on point also. It's a place where you can dress smart casual or wear formal and you will not feel out of place. If anyone has a special occasion coming up it's somewhere I'd definitely say is worth bearing in mind, you will not be disappointed. From start to finish, even the coffees to conclude, it all made for a great evening out and left us all with good impressions. Can't wait to return. Thank you Quayside Plaza."

"Based on the good reviews here, we tried this place for lunch. Really interesting menu and friendly staff. The place was packed on a Monday lunch time, which must say something. I had the Seafood Platter, my son had a salt beef sandwich and my husband had the potato skins. We were all very pleased with our food. Two of us were tempted by delicious looking (and tasting) cakes....enough said. We will be back, and soon."

"Although we don't live too far away (in Bridlington), this was actually our first visit to the Dacre Arms. After searching online for a restaurant near Hornsea that also catered to Gluten Free diets, we came across this place. We walked in without a reservation and the staff at the bar were very helpful and managed to accommodate us for Sunday dinner (lesson learned - always book ahead). The three meals we ordered were fantastic and the portions were very generous. The prices were also quite reasonable. We were impressed with the variety of Gluten Free options available. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and great value for money. We are already planning to make another reservation in two weeks."

"We visited The Bell to celebrate our birthday. We received a warm welcome, were shown to our table promptly. We ordered drinks and they arrived quickly. Our food order was taken as soon as we were ready. Two of us chose a Thai Red Curry from the specials board and our other guest chose the Steak and Ale Pie. We had salt and pepper chicken wings to nibble while we waited for our mains. The food did not take too long to come. It was nicely presented, there was plenty of it and it was delicious. We were too full for pudding so we asked for the bill which we received promptly. The service throughout was truly excellent, the food was good and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We look forward to another visit in the future."

"We were on a short break in Thirsk in late September and looked for a pub that did food. We walked into the Black Lion and were immediately given a very friendly welcome by the landlord/owner and the locals already in there. We spotted some people with what looked like nice meals at the back so asked if we could have a drink first and then have something to eat. Of course! was the reply. When I mentioned that the lady in our party needed a bright table because of an eye problem, the locals, immediately, without being asked, got up from a brightly lit round table in the window and guided us to it. Our drinks were delivered to the table as soon as we were ready for another round, and then when our meals arrived, the food was lovely. The landlord had put us on a tab when we arrived and when we paid at the end of the evening, the cost was very reasonable. The landlord had even sent someone to the local shop to get orange juice, because they had run out, for one of our drinks. The beer was really nice as well. We were that impressed that we booked for the next night, and when we arrived they had set out the same brightly lit table in the window for us. Very nice thank you. We again had some more rounds of their delicious beers, and then a very nice meal again. All in all a great duo of nights. We will return to Thirsk and will definitely visit the Black Lion again."

"Very nice meal special was roast beef in yorkshire pudding very generous portions of meat and vegetables. Veggies menu a bit limited and veggie pancake was just veg in cheese sauce with a pancake on top. Atmosphere was good it was busy...and tables quite close together in bar if you're concerned about social distancing. Neighbouring diners said kids menu would have been available for teens pleased to hear there's not a restriction on this kids all have different appetites and adult meals a bit overfacing sometimes for small eaters. Overall a great place to eat but be hungry!"

"Terrible experience. The restaurant claimed to offer gluten-free options, but when I asked about the safety of their food, they said nothing was really safe and that bits could drop into the fryer. They initially said I could have a vegan burger with chips and a bun, but then backtracked and said the chips weren't safe due to possible contamination. When I questioned the menu inconsistency, the staff said it was probably a typo, which was not reassuring. When I inquired about a gluten-free bun, I was met with exasperation. Overall, we decided to leave without eating and won't be returning to this establishment."

"We visited here on New Years Eve for a meal and one of our children has an egg allergy. As usual wherever we go, we told our waitress about this to ensure that his meal didn 't contain any egg. We were assured that there was no egg in the food he had ordered. However, partway through the meal it became obvious that he had eaten egg. We then had to leave most of our meal and cut our evening short . . . after paying £100+ for the pleasure! We did tell the lady that we paid why there was so much food left and all she said was Oh, we 're usually very good with allergies. Thank goodness it 's not a life threatening allergy to him!"

"what a nice place. the first time I was. love the deko and the atmosphere was alive. the personal was very smart and well spoken. when eating came my father starter) it looked fantastic. not sure what it was, but he left me some. a very smooth but tasty pate on a roasted brot that was very light. I ordered the steak! rare to medium with thin chips saw how thick potato wars they get in a package) and spinat with balsamic dressing it think. Oh, my God, cooked to perfect the steak. not to see fat. it is simply melted in the mouth. what a great mix. I would recommend this charming bistro to everyone. many thanks for a nice dinner with my father. and will be for more. I'm sorry he's going into the bar and talking to the chef. whitaker and my father michael whitaker."

"I was hoping from the menu that a gluten free, vegan pizza might have been possible, but the gluten free pizza was not vegan, so with my allergies I couldn't have that. However, I ordered a mixed salad for a starter and the vegetarian pasta sauce on gluten free pasta and they were both absolutely gorgeous! I would have found it a little easier to order if there had been an indication of allergens within the pasta sauces themselves, so I could have seen straight away which ones would have been ok. I was delighted with my food though it tasted wonderful and looked beautiful. Plus, for people who need just gluten free, or just vegan, having those dedicated pages on the menu is great. Everyone's food looked delicious (I was in a large group) and we had a lovely evening. I would recommend this restaurant and I will be pleased to go again."
