"I'm sad to write this but we didn't have a great lunch and had been so looking forward to it. My husband took me for my birthday. First off, the restaurant was freezing cold so not a nice environment. It was a cold day so we kinda forgave it. Ordered Oysters then each a starter and a main. My starter arrived along with the oysters so we thought that was odd but when my husbands starter didn't arrive it was clear they thought the oysters were his starter and had forgotten his actual one so a quick apology and he got it. Artichoke and anchovy salad, good god it was disgusting swimming in olive oil. I told him to return it but he was too polite and hungry by this point. The mains were just okay, I had pheasant which I understand is small but I did eat more plums and prunes than anything else. My husband had the pork which he said was, again, okay. Dessert was delicious shared a sticky toffee pudding. Our wine was also very good and the sommelier was excellent, shame the waiter didn't know about wine and tipped the rest of the bottle into my glass along with all the sediment. The bill was eye watering. Not a great experience, sadly won't be back and have already told people to save their money. Sorry!"

"The restaurant itself could use some updates. The carpet was old and stained, and there were food splatters on the walls. Additionally, I noticed a food hygiene rating of 4 prominently displayed on the main window, but the details on the back dated back to 2015. According to the food hygiene ratings app on my phone, they actually had a rating of 2. This is something most people wouldn't notice unless they had experience working with a local council. I genuinely hope they improve their food standards and renovate the restaurant to create a more inviting atmosphere."

"Words simply cannot do justice to this establishment. The ambience, the food, the service were nothing short of perfection, and I utilise that term very deliberately. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgable, charming and funny without ever being ingratiating or false. The a la carte menu was excellent, and our food I had Dover sole and my wife had the lobster risotto, preceded by the oysters and canapés was sublime. The whole experience was unforgettable, the history and sense of refinement is truly palpable without ever seeming forced. It was an experience, and one my wife and I are keen to undertake again at our earliest opportunity. It is luxurious without seeming pretentious or unattainable. We aren’t oligarchs, captains of industry, movie stars or the landed gentry, and that mattered not one iota, the staff were unfailingly warm and attentive. There is a very clear reason Claridge’s has stood the test of time, and long may it continue to do so."

"This charming, family-run hotel has a classic feel and is tucked away from the usual tourist paths. It has built a loyal customer base and boasts a fantastic reputation for dining, which I wholeheartedly agree with. My wife and I spent three nights here, and I struggled to find any faults in our experience or our dinners. The cuisine is traditional British, with flavors that were truly delightful. After three courses each night, we were pleasantly full. While the prices are not the cheapest, they are very reasonable considering the exceptionally high quality of the meals. The maitre d', Craig, provided impeccable service with great attention to detail. Our deluxe room was beautifully furnished and spacious, complete with both a bathtub and a separate shower. There are lovely coastal walks nearby, and a charming village close by features a bathing beach and a pub along the way. This is a place not to be missed. For us, it was perfect. "We are from Los Angeles visiting relatives and we booked a High Tea. Initially, we were served with nice friendly service as we sat down and placed our order. After that not one server even came back to ask if we needed refill with teas or water. While the three tables around were served with three times and they are all Caucasians. We are Asians. Please tell me there is no discrimination here in UK. Even after I had to flag down a server and her mannerisms were not quite friendly. This gave me a very bad impression with a restaurant like this."

"Came across this pub by accident when we got diverterted off the A47 during lunch time. Looks very inviting from outside, massive garden. Inside very welcoming, traditional looking pub with fireplace and beams. Lots of choice on the menu, with specials on offer. Staff were very, very friendly, explaining soup of the day and the days daily fish catch available. Large choice of beers available, lots of tables in bar and restaurant area. More than happy for our two dogs in the bar area and made us all feel very welcome. Food was fantastic with large portions I'm glad we didn't opt for a starter, but from what we saw, they looked fabulous) Very big piece of fresh tasting fish, lots of scampi, chips were perfect. Could not fault anything about the pub, food, service, everything was to very high standard, quite glad we got lost really, well worth the additional miles, highly recommended. "When I had eaten several times in the shepherd and dog, I was very disappointed last Wednesday. we waited at least 20 minutes for someone to pick up our order, and it was almost an hour when we had set ourselves until we got to eat. we chose from the a la carte menu where past eating was excellent, but on Wednesday the appetizers and main course were very mediocre. nothing like taste, presentation and quality at previous visits. the only saving gnade was the sharing gloomy. we stayed at least one more hour at the table talk and the desert plates and coffee saucers were just left and not removed. my friends and I have often visited for special occasions, but at £40 per head for a midday week without wine we expect better service and eat."

"After many reviews on TripAdvisor I booked dinner at Chez Mal, although we were at Dakota. Upon arrival, our reservation could not be found, but fortunately there were replacement tables. When ordering drinks, I had to choose a third choice, as there were problems with gas for collection and storage problems with filled beer. Food order, my first choice was not available??????? After all, our food arrived and the waiter served the plates with the abstention and ignorance that further intensified the situation. The last straw came when my wife was undercooked. We asked to talk to the manager who treated the situation professionally and gave us a full refund to compensate for a very disappointing evening. We returned to the Dakota, who saved the last night of our holiday. With excellent food, service and go the extra mile."

"The waiter whose name I forget was incredibly friendly but the food took an age to come and was cold. The sides were mixed up. The waiter tried his best but I felt some of the orders were ready long before others hence the reason some dishes were cold. I asked for fresh hot chips and got piping hot chips in a very short time. It was a family birthday and he made a huge fuss and organised a brownie with a candle. As I say he took great pride in his work and solved problems made by the background staff."

"We love coming to the Boat, not only is it local but it has good food. Unfortunately I am sure through no fault of their own the prices have rocketed since New Year, £9.50 for a pudding. We had a glasss wine each (two of us) main meal, pudding and coffee which came to £95, which is rather a lot of a country pub. They also appeared to be short staffed, which was shame as I did want a glass of red wine with my meal, but no one was around to ask, we weren't asked if the meal was ok and felt rather un loved ! We would love to keep coming here as we love the pub and the owners, but the prices are now to high for us."
