"There are some places that just serve as magnets for your attention. The Orange Tree in Totteridge does that to me. I mean what kind of Florida girl living in London doesn’t fancy a trip to a gastropub called The Orange Tree? The decor and ambiance is comfortable and cheery. I especially wanted to eat at The Orange Tree because I love the Arkley and The Freemasons Arms. They’re all owned by the same company. The menu at all three is virtually the same. Mr. Sunny and I popped in The Orange Tree a few weeks ago mid-day on a Tuesday. The weather was gorgeous. We sipped on Prosecco and beer. The gastropub is located a distance from the road. This makes it extra enjoyable and fun when there’s sunshine. This past Saturday, the ambiance was very different. It’s a good thing we arrived in a cab with my Sunny-in-laws. The car park was mobbed. That beautiful spacious road in the picture above was lined with cars on both sides. Good thing I took all my interior pictures the first time I visited! My Sunny-mummy-in-law and I are big bubbly fans, so we shared a bottle of Prosecco. The boys bought beer. It was San Miguel again for Mr. Sunny. His dad had a Doombar. We were proud of ourselves for booking a table. Actually, all the credit goes to my clever mummy-in-law. Despite the crowds, they sat us as soon as we were ready. Mr. Sunny ordered Smoked Cornish Sardine Fillets. I went for my go-to-non-carb-delight, Caprese Salad. Mr. Sunny’s mum had the Salt and Pepper Squid. His dad loved the Ham Hock Terrine. You see, he had been excited about ordering it all week. He enjoyed it so much, he skipped a Main course. Not me, Sunny friends. I went big. For realz…the Home-Made West Country Beef Burger. I’m pretty sure I told them to even pack on extra cheese. It was a damn good cheeseburger. Mr. Sunny picked the Rack of Lamb from the Specials menu. He says it was **** lovely! And, my mummy-in-law chose the Sticky Crispy Duck Salad. We had a fabulous afternoon and will definitely be back to enjoy more of their delicious cuisine. Although next time, I’ll probably walk there and home so I can be able to squeeze in to my jeans. Because passing up that fantastic cheeseburger would be a sure way to rain on my parade. The Orange Tree is located at Totteridge Village, London N20 8NX. You can follow them on Twitter to keep informed of their fantastic promotions. I do!"

"We stood waiting to be attended to for quite some time staff were walking past us. Then we had to wait for a table even though we could see empty tables. When we were ordering the server gave us the impression she did not have a clue what she was doing and we both commented that it would be a miracle to get what we ordered! Well we didn’t as the salmon was sold out so after mins of ordering I had to pick something else. The drinks took too long To arrive, considering we had two small children who said to the server they were thirsty. Whilst the food arrived promptly, excluding my started of Brie the food was absolutely vile. As my husband summed up it looked and tasted as though we were on “come dine with me” and someone was trying to be fancy but failed in the execution. I ordered my steak medium but it arrived well done at this point I couldn’t be bothered to comment, it had zero flavour. When my son spilt his drink no one offered to help clear the spillage, whilst I am not adverse to cleaning up his mess I would have expected someone to offer to help, or to give us something to use. The ladies toilets were not open so you had to use the disabled. Even though I had said it was my daughters birthday they did NOTHING to make her feel special. A candle wouldn’t have gone a miss! I don’t think I will be returning with my family for quite some time which is a shame."

"Took my wife with kids for her 50th birthday party after the place has been refurbished. My wife and I had starters and asked for our kids meals to come at the same time. Both kids ordered sausages and mash one asked for no gravy and the other asked could it be in a separate dish just in case she did not like it. The waiter assured us it came separate. Two meals came one had the gravy poured all over it, that is not served separate as asked for and confirmed by the waiter. So my daughter had to wait for the right meal to come. Allowing for the fact they were kids meal to serve only one sausage is ridiculously mean. The waiter later explained he made a mistake when taking the order so we accepted it as he was a nice guy. I had carrot and coriander soup. It was tasty and a fair portion. My wife had whipped goats cheese and it was an embarrassing portion. Absolutely tiny amount of goats cheese. We then waited circa 50 mins for our mains to come. I had the fig roast, which was very tasty but the sprouts weren’t cooked. My wife had the sea bass fillets which again was nice but the potatoes were not properly cooked. Deserts were nice and tasty. Overall okay but they must do much better. We never put quantity over quality but the portions were just too miserable, the service slow and the chef should not send out vegetables not cooked properly especially when you wait so long for your main course. Won’t rush back"
