"We arrived a bit early but our table was already prepared. Good quality crackers! It was a surprise to find there was live music, and the pub was beautifully decorated. The service was VERY efficient, friendly and seamless, THANK YOU. The food was delicious, and served well timed. A few room for improvement comments there seemed to be a mix up with how many deserts had been ordered ie only one desert....and despite only one being served, 2 appeared on the bill! Also the mince pie served had part of the pastry missing. This was pointed out but the mince pie was not replaced, for a complete one.....hence the food not getting Outstanding . And the pub had run out of NZ Sauvignon blanc, but the House white was very drinkable! Music did get louder at one point which made it very difficult for us to talk!! But over all we had a great time, and would definitely recommend and go again. Thanks to all the staff and the chef!"

"It’s been a while since we ate here. We were very impress with the new decor. Service was great from the moment we walked in. They didn’t rush us to our table so we were able to relax in the bar for a drink. The young lady that was our server was polite, not pushy but apologise for the delay. We didn’t feel there was one. They were busy in the restaurant with a huge group so that’s most probably why she felt she should apologise. She knew what was available so when we order three of the same starters she knew straight away there was only two left, normally in our experience you order the food and the waitress would come back to say not available. She made sure through out our stay that we were ok and kept us topped up with drinks. Food was fantastic and good value for money. Told my husband we should make the effort and come here more often."

"I don’t know whether to put this on Facebook, what do you guys think… We went to The Three Shires for Sunday lunch after seeing some good reviews and nice pictures on Social Media. I was particularly enthusiastic to go as I always enjoyed The Three Shires when it was a Wine Bar. Unbelievably, we’re really struggling to find somewhere really decent for a Sunday roast, a reasonable sized portion with good meat, well cooked variety of veg, a Yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy real gravy, not Bisto. *Overall score 0/10* We were booked in for 2:30pm and we arrived exactly on time, albeit a bit wet. We’d walked past 4 members of staff before anyone engaged with us. Anyway, we were given a choice of tables and we sat down. It was a wee bit small, in the thoroughfare opposite the bar, but it was ok. However, Fiona’s chair was broken, so she (with some late help) swapped it with a chair from the other table. That was broke too but, I was seeing that she was loosing the will to live, so she put up with it, she just didn’t lean back! We ordered drinks from a nice, but very inexperienced waitress and looked through the menu. Fiona wanted a roast chicken dinner, but that wasn’t an option, but, upon asking our waitress, she said that wouldn’t be a problem. She disappeared for a few minutes and when we next saw her we ordered the food about 2:45pm by this time. A bad start, I thought, but bring on the lovely food and all will be alright. Then we waited and waited and waited. The staff all seemed to be in chaos, at one time, four of them trying to work out a bill with the calculators on their mobile phones. Then we waited and waited and waited. At 3:30pm, an older woman came over and apologised. Fiona explained we were really stuck for time as she’d just come from visiting her mother in hospital and she had to get back. No problem, she said, I’ll check how long it will be. Immediately she came back and promised 3 minutes. 10 minutes later, we were still waiting, so we got up. I asked for the bill for the drinks, a pint and two alcohol free Gin Tonics, but they said there wasn’t a charge. In my opinion, the first thing they did right. We headed back to the car and got a drenching from the rain and came home. We don’t think a nice, relaxed, tasty, good value for money Sunday lunch is rocket science, but, clearly we’re, mostly, expecting too much definitely from Huffys at the Three Shires!"

"Lovely traditional village pub. Very welcoming but sadly the bar man could have done with another pair of hands. We waited nearly an hour for our meals to arrive which they said was because the pie we ordered needed half an hour in the oven from the time they received the order. Obviously a delay in getting the order through to the kitchen. However when the meal finally arrived it was delicious and the barman deducted our drinks from the bill to compensate for the wait. Can't ask fairer than that."

"We visited The Lodge for Mother's Day lunch, after having booked. The meal itself was enjoyable with good quality dishes (we all had the roast, mix of beef and lamb really good joints! , well presented and which we thought were all value for money. How ever, we felt the service was somewhat lacking we had to ask for menus after a while, drinks order taken for only half the table then rushed off before asking the rest, had to ask for table water couple of times, etc. I appreciate that it might have been unusually busy for a Sunday given it was Mother's Day but I'm always a bit surprised when restaurants seem caught off guard by this, especially when they have a special menu in place."

"So what can I tell you about this establishment. I walked in at 10:30 is two of my oldest friends who’s I haven’t seen for 5 years. I’m greeted with cold shoulders and zero communication. From the outside it looked like a warm welcoming pub. But no. I walked in and me and my friends are told last drinks have seen served. Now I understand a pin having worked in the industry for 10 years. The staff saw me and my friends walk in and in my opinion saw us and thought no that’s more work and ran us out of the pub with bad attitude and rude answers."

"Probably the poorest take away we have been to in a very long time. The guys behind the counter looked so fed up and could hardly mutter a response. Was tempted by the idea of good old bag of chips while we wandered Notting Hill; so Ordered what was advertised as a Jumbo Saveloy and large chips which was £7.60. Firstly the saveloy was no more jumbo than any other, at £3.50 a complete joke and barely warm. Then the large chips at £4.10 smaller than the small at most F&C 's. The chips certainly weren 't fresh, tasting like they had already been re heated then been left to sit. I would guess if they weren 't were they were located they probably wouldn 't get the business they do."

"Wouldn 't recommend staying here overnight unless you absolutely can 't find anything else. It 's old, dated and needs attention. Very basic room and bathroom could 've been cleaner, heating not working. The mattress has springs that were so loud when you simply turned over. The food in the pub was okay and the barmaid was great, however the landlady is very rude and I 'm not sure if she actually wants anyone in her pub. Just one example We rang up to book a room, she says come after 12 because that 's when they 're open. We turned up at 12:30 to which we were met with check in is at 2pm . We were treated like an inconvenience but didn 't take it personally as she was rude to other punters too another couple came in to eat and after a short interaction, just left."

"The owners of this fish and chip shop are such kind and welcoming people. It has become my daughter's go-to treat after swimming. The food is always fresh, nicely presented, and delicious. "Terrible is the only way to describe this restaurant. We really want it to work, as they made an effort with the decor. It's our third meal and last at this establishment until they get a new chef. I ordered steak, medium rare. It was well done. My wife ordered lamb medium, it was ****. The blood ran into the cous-cous, which was totally bland. Not a pretty sight. We were prepared to give constructive criticism, but no one asked about our food experience. They were slow in collecting our finished plates. Their mobile phones seemed more important than the guests. There are too many good restaurants and pubs in St.Albans to ever need to go back. It's sad but they need to up their game to another level, or they will be finished."

"After booking a table at the restaurant (17/02/18) because the reviews were quite good it is always disappointing to be someone who didn't get a great experience. We arrived on time and were taken to our seats after a few minutes of waiting. Nice atmosphere a dozen people around us some with and some without food and a lovely view of the strand. Unfortunately the view was the best bit, by a long way. After waiting over 20 minutes to get a drinks order (I had to flag down a waiter) and then another 10 minutes to receive 2 glasses of prosseco, a pint and a large glass of wine we had our food order taken. With a waiting time of just over 30 minutes for a starter it was a long time to wait for a mediocre dish. The scallops were average, nothing special. They were meant to be seasoned with spice but tasted plain. The other starter we had, the pea and crab chowder was more a soup with tinned peas poured into it and a few pieces of crab meat occasionally appearing within. Not a great start considering other people around us had food that came quickly and looked and smelled great. Another wait for mains, not as long as for starters but still noticeable, where even the waitress came over and told us she would check on our food. The lamb rump tasted ok but had clearly been left under a heat lamp as it was just warm when it arrived. The salad that came with it was missing half of the things from the menu! The other dish we ordered, Quinoa and grilled portobello mushroom salad, was the saddest and most dissapointing looking dish if ever seen. It was literally a hand full of quinoa a few salad leaves and some cold slices of mushroom atop it. Again missing ingredients that it stated on the menu. After taking into consideration the wait and the poor quality in the food and long wait times we left paying only for the drinks and starters and more importantly hungry. Still after only drinks and a starter it came to roughly £47, less than impressive for value. Dissapointing!"

"Pleasant place -room fine -shower good but shower tray looked bit tatty one small opening window but did have fan which was good as when we stayed it was very warm. Staff friendly and helpful breakfast good and breakfast room itself very pleasant nicely decorated nicest room in building .Meal on evening had sharing sea food platter nice and plenty of it also 10per cent off as we were hotel guests. Dog friendly but paid highest cost here for our two dogs than anywhere we have stayed on our holiday.The beer garden definitely needs a good tidy up grass needed cutting shrubs needed trimmingpaving and tables and seating all could have done with a good clean it was just us that thought that could hear a lot of the same comments from other people shame as could be really nice. "The decor is cool, we loved the cocktails the drinks were reasonably priced for London. I loved the atmosphere and couldn't fault any of the staff who were all super friendly and attentive. We would definitely return for a good night of drinking! The reason for my average rating (which I feel bad about) is the food was a big let down, our starters were okayish garlic Rosemary bread was just about edible, calamari was nice. We ordered the Wagyu burgers which sadly was not to expectations, it was chewy, and bacon stringy. Some of the chips were over cooked and some were undercooked raw in the middle. Thankfully we weren't all that hungry anyway because we were full from the cocktails but wish we had spent the money on more drinks instead."

"Extremely disappointed . . . I ordered Fish and Chips for myself and two portions of chips for family members. The order came out with no fish so a fresh piece of fish was cooked for me. It was so over 'cooked ' and batter dark in colour the fish inside had shrivelled up to almost nothing. My grandaughters sausage was bigger in size. I love fish and chips, we travelled down 4hrs to visit family and look forward to my fish and chips by the seaside but I 'd struggle to even call this meal fish and chips! Its a pity I can 't add a photo . . . Photo now added . . . Am I wrong in thinking the manager may have replied with some form of explanation!"
