"My wife and I decided to try the Village Maid having eaten at other pubs in the Moss Co chain) as they had a special promotion with 50% off main meals for a limited period Mondays to Wednesdays). My sister had bought us a £10 gift voucher and we thought it would be a good opportunity to use it. Sadly this was not possible the pub 's menu states '50% OFF MAINS OFFER CANNOT BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH A MOSS CO VOUCHER. TO USE A MOSS CO VOUCHER, MEALS WILL BE CHARGED AT FULL RESTAURANT PRICE '. The meal itself was excellent. I ordered the whitebait starter £8) which was a good sized portion and my wife and I shared it. Really tasty and fresh. For main course I ordered the pan fried seabass £20 reduced to £10) and a side order of hand cut chips £4). It was served with a chickpea, chorizo and prawn gumbo in a large bowl and to be honest I could have skipped the chips as it was very filling. There were loads of prawns, although only two small pieces of seabass. My wife ordered the Maple Glazed Bacon Steak £17 reduced to £8.50) which she really enjoyed. We shared a dessert, a lovely Banana Toffee and Pecan Sponge Pudding with Custard £8.50) which was really light and tasty, and more than enough for us to share. The pub had an extensive drinks menu but only two ales available, although the Lacons Encore was tasty. The service was excellent we had a very friendly lady server who had a great sense of humour and we really enjoyed the interaction. Pace of service was just right, not too rushed or slow, so enough time to digest and enjoy without feeling full or pushed to clear the table. We had a lovely meal and the entire visit was excellent. The only reason for not scoring 5 stars was the gift voucher issue. I don 't see the logic in denying customers with gift vouchers the ability to access the offer. I could understand why the 50% off mains offer couldn 't be used with another 'discount ' offer, but a gift voucher is still a cash payment, indeed Moss Co even had the money in advance! If we had used my voucher we would have ended up paying £8.50 MORE than not using it, which seems daft, especially as Moss Co are promoting the giving of these vouchers as Xmas presents in their newsletter...we were better off NOT using it, which doesn 't seem right. I have emailed Moss Co twice on this matter and not even had an acknowledgment. Apart from that the meal experience was excellent and I am sure we will be tempted to return."

"Went to vita Bella today night with the wife due to not visiting for a while and felt we needed a treat. As always upon arrival we were met by the parking attendant who showed us where to park. Once inside a warm welcome from staff and then given the choice of being seated in the main restaurant or sitting next to the garden room, wife chose the latter. Once seated menus supplied and drink order taken. Plenty to choose from so took us a while to pick what to have lots looked good. I started with the scallops which were perfectly cooked, I was able to cut them with my spoon that’s how spot on they were. Now on to mains, I went for the veal with spaghetti again this was lovely, the spaghetti was cooked perfectly, not under cooked nor over cooked, and the bolognese was lovely, great flavour you could taste the meat not a load of tomato sauce here. My wife had the pork belly as this is one of her favorites here she always enjoys it and tonight was no different. Again the side of vegetables that accompanied my wife’s main were perfectly cooked and tasted lovely I know as I had some (can’t not as they are always perfect in flavour). We both fitted in a dessert tonight, my wife had apple pie which she said was lovely, I went for Coffee semifreddo which I’ve never had before as I’m not a big fan of desert and can normally take it or leave it but tonight I liked the sound of this one, again this didn’t disappoint if you like coffee and chocolate this is a must it was heavenly. To finish off when it came to getting the bill we were offered a completely drink and mints which was a lovely end to a perfect meal out."

"This location should, in theory, be 10/10 experience in my opinion.. Wonderful building.. Various parts to it, as in a nice main restaurant, with plenty of seating of varying styles.. A canal right next to it with narrow boats meandering past the location.. So why was our experience dissapointing .? Ok.. Service by staff was hit and miss.. And you can't say there wasn't enough staff on duty on a gorgeous Sunday lunchtime.. In main restaurant.. The marquee extension and seating outside, staff were plentiful.. But if you have staff just twiddling fingers and not watching customers, whether for food and drinks orders,or actually trying to pay the bill at the end of our time there.. Lost count of number of times we asked for our bill please .. Finally , one young lady got the bill.. Then vanished again.. She came back a short time later, and said she has to wait for the card machine.. Seriously, has such a large, well established business only operating a small number of card payment machines that customers have to sit and wait..? After around 10mins, we just got up to walk to one of the various cash till/ screens, dotted around the location.. But here again, we just didn't get served , until a gentleman in a grey polo shirt asked if he could help? Absolutely you can..I said to him.. Can we PLEASE PAY OUR BILL..???? We've been waiting far to long to just pay our bill.. Suddenly a card machine was made available.. Billl paid,we left... The actual cusne was very nice.. Couldn't fault that part of our experience.."
