"This location should, in theory, be 10/10 experience in my opinion.. Wonderful building.. Various parts to it, as in a nice main restaurant, with plenty of seating of varying styles.. A canal right next to it with narrow boats meandering past the location.. So why was our experience dissapointing .? Ok.. Service by staff was hit and miss.. And you can't say there wasn't enough staff on duty on a gorgeous Sunday lunchtime.. In main restaurant.. The marquee extension and seating outside, staff were plentiful.. But if you have staff just twiddling fingers and not watching customers, whether for food and drinks orders,or actually trying to pay the bill at the end of our time there.. Lost count of number of times we asked for our bill please .. Finally , one young lady got the bill.. Then vanished again.. She came back a short time later, and said she has to wait for the card machine.. Seriously, has such a large, well established business only operating a small number of card payment machines that customers have to sit and wait..? After around 10mins, we just got up to walk to one of the various cash till/ screens, dotted around the location.. But here again, we just didn't get served , until a gentleman in a grey polo shirt asked if he could help? Absolutely you can..I said to him.. Can we PLEASE PAY OUR BILL..???? We've been waiting far to long to just pay our bill.. Suddenly a card machine was made available.. Billl paid,we left... The actual cusne was very nice.. Couldn't fault that part of our experience.."

"This wasn’t our first visit (the previous occasion was more positive than this) but this was really quite poor. Problem after problem, service was poor and just not very welcoming. Firstly, drinks weren’t available issues with draft, but then bottles weren’t available either. So there was a very limited selection of drinks on offer and the staff weren’t proactive in advising what was available. So it was request and receive a no! Secondly, the food was poor. The starters were shocking. Really quite bad. There was a bit of redemption from some of the mains, but we elected to not proceed with anything else as it wasn’t great. We had to wait ages for drinks and foods to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was practically empty and many staff present. Frequently there were 3 staff at the back of the room standing about chatting, but they weren’t attentive to our needs. They didn’t check around the room to see if guests required additional drinks or require plates clearing. They didn’t check to see how the food was and when we complained regarding a starter they simply didn’t know how to handle it. When the draft beer came back on there was no proactive behaviour in returning to the table and letting us know so that more drinks could be ordered. Drinks were poured in wrong glasses, plates were cleared whilst people were still eating and then not cleared when they needed to be! Simply put the staff working had no idea on what table service should be perhaps they had received no training which is a major failing when the restaurant is part of a hotel. It was not welcoming. The restaurant was freezing cold. The service was really very poor and the food disappointing. They also don’t take dogs which in Aldeburgh is a bit weird. There is plenty of space and the tables are large so they would not be in the way. We won’t be returning."

"Having visited the White Hart a few times over the past couple years and having an amazing time every single day we assumed today would be no different. So i called the restaurant and asked the lady on the phone if they had a table free in the restaurant and received a blunt no. Right okay. So I asked. Do you have to book? Then she sighed on the phone to me and said no but were busy so good luck. After this horrific phone call we decided the best thing to do was pop in as surely this wasn’t the same white hart we were used to. We entered and we were immediately greeted by a young male and female who both said hi to us upon entry and they both guided us to the menus and a table inside. These two members of staff are the only reason i’m not giving 1 star as i couldn’t fault them in anyway whatsoever. Upon arrival and until we left they both had a smile on their faces and greeted us constantly. This put our minds at ease a little. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and they weren’t bad but they weren’t anything special either. But we did only have sandwiches and for £7 you get what you pay for it was definitely not bad food. However the person from the phone call made an appearance again. I recognised her voice immediately as she came over to the table with our food and quite literally placed it half an inch above the table and dropped. She wasn’t interested in asking if we needed any cutlery or even if our order was correct. So again saved by her colleagues the other waitress (who I discovered to be called Katie) fetched my partner some tartar sauce and some cutlery and napkins for the table and even had a chat with us about our days. A drastic improvement to the other member of staff. So TLDR: The white hart is still alive and kicking however they’re being dragged down by their own staff who don’t care about the business."

"Dissapointed sorry. I feel that the restaurant is not as good as it used to be. The whole experience is somehow lacking now compared to what it used to be like. Todays meals were a starter of ribs and also prawn cocktails. They were nice and we had great expectations for the mains. Steak had to be sent back as we ordered medium rare but it was more medium well, the replacement was better cooked but found it to be to fatty, my missus did not finish it. Found the house special burger to be too dry, that’s both the burger and the bun it was served on, as well as lacking in seasoning, nope I never finished it. The main ribs for our friend was only half eaten too due to it being too fatty. In the past the Toby had been the place to go. You do seem to have lost your way unfortunately. The staff were attentive though and Carried out their jobs very well. The plates and left over food were cleared away and we were asked did we enjoy our food! We politely told them it was ok and not like it used to be, we were asked if we wanted deserts to which we said no, then within a couple of minutes the bill was placed on our table (we hadn’t asked for the bill though) but a lovely gesture from the front of house who came over and spoke to us and told us he’d given us a reduction on our meal as he had noticed that the ribs were fatty too. As the bill did arrive with out us asking for it then the royal Toby had lost Out on us ordering more drinks. So we decided to just go. Hopefully the next time we visit we will see an improvement and that Todays visit was just a minor glitch"
