"In the approach to Christmas, at the time of goodwill to all men, I feel hesitant writing this review. We 've had meals at The Bell before, probably on three occasions, and they have been fine with good service. This time we met friends here and had driven a long way through driving rain and were hungry! The restaurant was full, and so was the waiting area. I think the other half of the room was being used for a meeting or conference maybe, so perhaps the restaurant floor area where we normally sit was reduced. We were greeted reasonably and shown to our table and sat down, We were presented with the Festive menu. We preferred to order from the main menu. After about 15 minutes, we had to ask for these from behind the bar. Our drinks came pretty quickly our waitress was courteous and friendly, and our food order was taken. After over an hour, and noting that other tables who arrived well after we did were served before us, we enquired as to whether we had been forgotten. We had to go and find someone to ask. After 20 minutes more, our food did arrive. The bream, liver and fish and chips were OK. But I don 't think the chef knows how to cook the basics, unless a work experience person or the like was given responsibility. Mashed potato was cold and getting solid. Saute potatoes were few and far between, overcooked, small and cold. The salad was a dozen olives thrown onto a couple of lettuce leaves. The waitress offered to have the mash replaced, but we didn 't have another hour to spare. The waitress was full of apologies, but said she had asked about the delay from the kitchen. The food isn 't cheap here, so quality ought to have been reasonabe, not partly sub standard or unenjoyable. We apologised to our friends for recommending this venue. Although the bill was adjusted, we 'll probably try somewhere else next time. Shame, because we love the area and the decor."

The light bites menu is value for money and the food is very good. A warm welcome from the staff including Teo.

What an incredible place. The food was amazing, delicious, freshly cooked, piping hot, served beautifully… the staff were incredible especially Tommy, Katie and chef MJ. They made our birthday stay so special.

Well worth a visit, (not the cheapest about but worth it). The manageress was fantastic and spent time talking to us and even got a specific beer in for me. Visited a few time and it was always a pleasant experience.

On a whim last Sunday (which miserable and wet) we decided to try for lunch in the New Forest and chose the Bell at Brook. I have to say that the Sunday Roast was one of the best that we have experienced in recent years. View menu

We went to this Inn with our dog and were allowed in the bar area. It was quiet when we were there but the staff were attentive and looked after our needs answering any questions that we had. The menu was limited which meant we were unable to select a dessert.

Well had the duck which was very nice but the veg served with it were appalling. 1 carrot and 1 stringy leek which was inedible. This is the second time I had been and had cottage pie previously and it was spot the meat but bill was reduced upon payment. Shame as staff good and surroundings View menu

Met up with two old friends for lunch at the Bell Inn today. We all live miles away and someone suggested this pub as it was roughly half way for all of us. Great choice!! Really couldn't fault it. I always have a veggie option (and there were a few to choose from. I nearly went for the risotto but chose a veggie burger instead. The BEST veggie burger I have ever had loved it. Lovely pub, great service, friendly staff. Perfect. We shall be back! Oh and lovely loos too!

Had to gamble on changing an afternoon tea voucher after the original one couldn't accommodate us. I'm so glad we did. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. They called me back to confirm my request for afternoon tea for two and what a tea!!! I'm a big eater but even I couldn't complete the challenge. We took a bag full of lovely cakes home with us. The staff were really welcoming and helpful. The food was delightful and of high quality. The staff also showed us their daily specials board and regular menu, convincing us we had to return for a proper meal We will definitely return for afternoon tea and to try one of their specials nights. This is a gem of a place which is well run and qu...
