"This is a really lovely pub with two terraces and a large garden space. We were recommended to visit and we're really glad we did as the food was delicious and the service was lovely and friendly. While menu options aren't necessarily the broadest, there's still lots to choose from and we enjoyed the salt and pepper squid (shared) and a burger and a steak. All very tasty! It's a popular spot for walkers in the day with the proximity to Devil's Dyke but also popular all-around so it's worth pre-booking at the weekend, especially if you'd like an outside table on the terrace. It's super easy to book on their website though. Enjoy!"

Perfect perfect setting! Brilliant tasty pork belly roast meal! I'm definitely coming back to do some walking here and then visiting this pub restaurant again.

This place is a hidden gem. We went with the vegan options and gosh, we were not disappointed. The food, the service, the landscape and the atmosphere are all 10/10. We'll be back!

Fantastically generous portion of Sunday Roast with a great selection of beer. Strong yet aromatic espresso was a good surprise. Very good service, too. Maybe better book in advance. View menu

Visit was up to the usual good standard of Shepherd Dog, our first post Covid visit Had to wait for our food because they were so busy. Great choice of local beers. Pie of the day very good. Looking forward to our next visit.

First time I ever visited. Went with my daughter nearly 2 year old granddaughter. Beautiful pub that was very welcoming. The roast dinners were huge delicious. The view is stunning. Now, one of my favourite country pubs. Be warned: it is very popular parking can be somewhat tricky but it is worth it. View menu

Popped in on the off chance Saturday lunch time and were surprised to get a table. Good selection of local drinks some quite pricey with two ciders. Uncomplicated menu with most tastes catered for we had half ribs and fish and chips which were a good size and well presented. Top garden shut but views are lovely this time of year

Great little gastro pub at the foot of the south downs. Ideal place to visit mid way through or at the end of the walk. Terrace and beer garden if the weather's good. Fantastic beer selection from the local area. Welcoming to dogs and muddy boots. If you want food there's a great selection of small plates. The wings and squid were fantastic. Great mains selection and roasts on a Sunday. Welcoming staff.

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
