"The best recommendation you can have for a restaurant in France is that it is full of French people. Sometimes it is so full that you have to wait outside, but you know it will be worth it. We were lucky; inside it is bigger than it looks and there were still some tables available. We opted for the cheapest set menu at an amazingly low price for three courses and added some good red wine, en pichet, at little more than it would cost in a supermarket. The menu was appealing, but the real surprises were the quality and quantity. First we got an appetiser that we were not expecting, and of course a bowl of bread. The mussels starter was the size of a main course. Likewise the herrings, served on boiled potatoes: a huge plate. The main courses were even larger: a vast expanse of veal, perfectly cooked, and the huge ‘piece of beef’ was as good as a filet mignon. And more bread! If only there had been a crème brulee or an isle flottante for dessert we would have given the establishment at least ten stars. In the event, the crème caramel was lovely, so it still gets nine. All served up by a beautiful and graceful young lady whose speed around the restaurant was worthy of a gold medal. Eat here and you won’t need any more food for days. And it’s right by the beach. What more could you want?"
