"Delighted to have our village pub back at last and above all, to see that it is actually open 6 days a week now! Jamie, the chef, is working really hard to provide good quality food and to come up with ideas for theme nights. It is also good to see the friendly owners, Paul and Mel, who are often there to see how things are going and to have a chat etc. They seem to be open to suggestions and the menu has already been adapted to cater for the needs of some of the regulars. I love the lunch-time sharing platter, which offers a choice of delicious items along with Ciabatta bread, salad and chutney. The curry nights are also good and a lot of effort went into preparations for recent theme nights such as the Sausage evening and the Hallowe'en barbecue. Have yet to try the Sunday lunch but they are already proving legendary! The ambience inside the pub is warm and welcoming but I feel that the outside is not well lit or signed adequately to suggest to passers-by that the pub is open! A shame, as I believe that many others, aside from the locals, would enjoy what the pub now has to offer. Perhaps one or two teething problems with staffing, but I am confident that they will be resolved over time and generally, the young staff who are in the process of being trained, have been excellent. I will definitely come back as often as I can."

Popped in here for a quick drink as we were passing and was surprised at how well it has been restored. It's light and airy with nice touches in reference to its church past. Barmaid was friendly and welcoming and there was a good atmosphere here. Would definitely stop by again.

One of those old style pubs with ancient looking beams, but with decent beers behind the bar too. Friendly welcome from the landlord who opened up 15mins early for me, lovely hearty lunch and a good WiFi connection to boot. Was just passing through the village for this visit but will make sure to swing by if ever I'm in the area again!

Visited this establishment on a Friday lunchtime. What a treat, the food is fantastic. Freshly cooked by proper chefs the food was tasty, hot and beautifully presented, also very reasonably priced.Sadly the place was nearly empty but the weather was bad and so the lovely garden couldn't be used. This really is a hidden gem, would definitely recommend.

We recently moved to the area so were keen to try out our local, unfortunately we won 't be returning often. Everything was basically standard pub fare , so pretty poor. There were a couple of ales on tap, but these days its relatively easy to find good pubs showing off a range of good local beers, this is not one of those pubs.We stayed for dinner (we felt the need to at least give it a chance! , but didn 't find anything more encouraging. Food was very much average pub , deep fried items were heavy and a bit greasy. I had pulled pork in a bun, though it very much just cooked pork served with bbq sauce and uninteresting chips. It felt to me like the kind of place where the chef effectively s...

"We have lived in Dunmow for 25 years and have always visited this pub through its various ownerships. We had not been for a while, until after I had a life saving major heart operation last year and this was the first place we chose to go for breakfast when I came out of hospital. We have continued to go since then on a regular basis and it never fails to satisfy. We have always been served by Lorraine since the first day we went and she has been fantastic. Last weekend was a year since I had the operation and we chose to go back for a small family meal to celebrate the success of the day. Well what can I say, my wife had other ideas and with the help of Lorraine she organised a surprise gathering of family and friends in a cordoned off part of the marquee with buffet. What made it even more special was that they don't normally do a buffet on a Sunday as it is normally roast dinner only. After Lorraine explained to her manager the importance of the day she was more than happy to help make the day happen. For this I am really grateful, and despite not getting the steak dinner I thought I was having it was so much better. Thank you to everyone involved as I know the organisation for this on a day you would not normally do it would have been a challenge. We will continue to go for breakfast whenever we can and hope that Lorraine is always there."
