"Booked a table as half way point to meet a friend for dinner. Was not advised of any time limitations and when we arrived we were told that the table had an hour and a half limit before we needed to leave the waiter then hovered throughout the evening and as soon as we finished literally) he swooped over and removed our plates I felt very rushed eating my dinner and left some as I didn’t feel had had time to enjoy the food. My friend and I then asked for hot drinks we had about 10 minutes) and were told no as they needed the table. Customer service was absolutely terrible! If you want a nice meal with a good atmosphere and a level of customer service do NOT come here. Will not be returning very disappointing. The staff did not even comment as we left and ignored us . I have been here before with a large group and will also be telling friends not to return as our experience was so bad we ended up in the pub next door which thankfully was really nice!"

Always great food I have no idea why some of the other reviews are so negative I've always had a great time here with super tasty food!

I ordered a lamb vindaloo and a lamb rogon Josh. In both dishes the lamb was tough and chewy. The restaurant did offer chicken replacements which my wife accepted but it was rather too late. We were both very disappointed and it spoiled our evening. We also had the feeling that they were keen to give us the bill as soon as possible to give them a spare table on a busy evening

Very bland food which was surprising as we’ve been here several times before. We were rushed through our meal with hardly no time to draw breath between courses which was also really frustrating.£2.50 for a small glass of coke which is also ludicrous but deemed acceptable not only by Bombay Butler but the majority of restaurant outlets locally. Overall really disappointed, Sorry

I don't know what the chef is thinking of. This restaurant used to serve excellent curries. Last week, I was served a samosa too hot to eat. Samosas are not hot, they should be moderately spicy. I had a Jalfrezi to follow, a dish which, as before, I found to be full of complex flavours, and medium hot, as expected. And then I accidently ate a hot chilli pepper buried in the Jalfrezi. It nearly made me ill, and I could eat no more. Why, chef, why? Clients ordering Indian meals know what level of heat they want, so don't mess about with it and serve chillies so string they are dangerous to those susceptible, buried in a medium heat dish. Please, sort it out, and obey the unspoken rules.

Very disappointed. Me and a friend booked at table , we both travelled over an hour to get here as a half way point for a longer overdue catch up . We were told we could only have the table for 1.5 hours which nobody told us over the phone at the time of booking. Our food did not come till 7.15 but they wanted us to leave at 8pm . We asked for a tea and coffee at 7.50pm and were told no as we needed to leave in 10 mins . They then came over with the bill very quickly so we would leave in time . I would not recommend this place to anyone , very rude , please spend your money elsewhere where you are treated like a valued customer . I have never experienced such rudeness as a paying customer an...

"We have lived in Dunmow for 25 years and have always visited this pub through its various ownerships. We had not been for a while, until after I had a life saving major heart operation last year and this was the first place we chose to go for breakfast when I came out of hospital. We have continued to go since then on a regular basis and it never fails to satisfy. We have always been served by Lorraine since the first day we went and she has been fantastic. Last weekend was a year since I had the operation and we chose to go back for a small family meal to celebrate the success of the day. Well what can I say, my wife had other ideas and with the help of Lorraine she organised a surprise gathering of family and friends in a cordoned off part of the marquee with buffet. What made it even more special was that they don't normally do a buffet on a Sunday as it is normally roast dinner only. After Lorraine explained to her manager the importance of the day she was more than happy to help make the day happen. For this I am really grateful, and despite not getting the steak dinner I thought I was having it was so much better. Thank you to everyone involved as I know the organisation for this on a day you would not normally do it would have been a challenge. We will continue to go for breakfast whenever we can and hope that Lorraine is always there."

"We used to go to the Green Man a lot under the previous owners and thought we would give it a try again for our wedding anniversary with our children. Bit of a mistake! You can see they are trying to improve the quality of the food, which was always good anyway but poor training and terrible service really let it down tonight. So we sat at 17:30 and it was 15 mins before we were offered drinks, not a massive deal. Food order another 10 mins. Both the kids ordered burgers so I specifically asked if there was mayonnaise in the burgers and if the coleslaw was separate and was told no mayo in burger and coleslaw separate. Starter sharing mezze was OK except only 2 bits of halloumi (for 4 people) and odd tasting sandy brown coloured olives. So the burgers turn up and have coleslaw chucked on the plate right on the burgers and mayo in the buns. So they went back and “replacements” came back from the kitchen very quickly which were the same burgers just in new buns with no mayo and the coleslaw in ramekins. Then the wife’s fish and chips. Looked nice and waited for service to offer condiments however seems we are being left alone now we said about the burgers. So she starts tucking in and finds a short dark black human hair on the plate. So that gets sent back. To be fair to the chef came out and apologised that he had not put his bandana on and unfortunately one of his hairs had fallen on the plate. OK forgive that once and say thank you for apologising. However it’s the same but if fish (as the wife had picked a bit off the end) and probably the same chips. Lovely. Then we totally get left alone. The kids were enjoying the burgers but slightly over salted and the water had run out so we thought get more water so they can finish and that someone would come near, which they did but to serve the tables around us and completely ignore us, even when trying to get attention. So in the end we get up (and could totally have walked out without paying and none of the staff would have been any the wiser) that’s not us though, so we paid. Told the chap at the bar that we had to come to the bar as we had been totally ignored (him being one of the many staff fawning over the people on the tables around us) and he just said OK handed the receipt. Now was the time for an apology, maybe even some sort of discount (which most places just do regardless) but no, nothing, no apology, no discount. Not bothered about the money So I paid in full and will be extremely unlikely to (read will never) set foot in the place again as there was no attempt at apology. Happy wedding anniversary! When you book there is a question “is it a special occasion” which we put yes it was our wedding anniversary and no acknowledgment so they obviously ignore those bits on the bookings. It felt like it was very clicky, like if you are known or are loaded you get looked after. Not a place for mere mortals."
