"Booked a table for a rare night out as a group of four. One other group of four were the only other customers. Wine order taken reasonable promptly followed by our food order. 40 mins later had to go ask for some more wine as hadn’t been checked on once since. After another 25 minutes some of our food arrived but not all. The salads arrived with no dressing so we asked for some. I was offered mayo or pesto dressing for a nicoise but specifically asked for a French dressing. Some more food arrived followed by some pesto dressing when I reasked for a french dressing was asked what that was?! Brought out some oil balsamic. A fellow diner’s duck was tough served with cold potatoes so that was sent back and a soup reordered in the hope it would be quick, it wasn’t. The other table of customers also had issues, notably ordering sea bass fillets being brought out a whole fish. Instead of the chef taking it off the bone for her they made her order something else crazy waste of food. The waitress seemed to have limited authority when we asked to speak to someone else was told the chef couldn’t speak any English. She was understandably upset at neither set of customers being happy whilst she wasn’t the most attentive waitress I did feel for her being left with out the training or skills to deal with things. How can a restaurant with the capability to seat about 30 not cope with 8 diners? She did ring the owners who were going to come but a little later we were told they couldn’t make it. We paid for the two bottles of wine left disappointed not to return."

the fact that they sent me a confirmation email to say that they are happy to see me, I came around 1825 for an 1830 booking to find a note on the door that says “we are closed for renovation.” as they can imagine, was not best satisfied as it was booked for a jubile.

We have come across this restaurant online and it is the best food we’ve had in Northampton. Me and my partner like to travel, vlog and explore new cuisines and we were so pleasantly surprised by the service as well as the food, that it has become our favorite place to dine! Can’t wait for their jazz evenings and wine tasting! See you soon xx

A beautiful little restaurant with a great selection of food. The staff are very cheerful and help to create a positive atmosphere within the restaurant, which is also due to the cosiness of the place. Having tried the frogs legs and the escargot, I can definitely say I'll be back here again. It was clear to see the other patrons enjoy their evening too, which was accompanied by live music, Geoff Tooley and Mike Kemp. A special thank you to Gabriel, Edita and the last waitress, whose name I did not get, for the swift, friendly and diligent service, despite the full house.

Really strange as we had never heard of Cafe Marseille before yesterday. Whilst searching for music on Facebook, all of a sudden a advert for a jazz night came up for this restaurant. Almost off the hoof we thought we’d give it a try. Well we weren’t disappointed. Music as amazing. We are not fans of jazz, but this was easy listening. The atmosphere was vibrant and cool. The food was really good. I can recommend the polenta and Laredo sticks. Super crunchy and delicious. The duck was cooked to perfection. Going there you will not be disappointed. Honestly we both had a fantastic experience.

"I wondered why this restaurant described itself on the board outside as ‘fusion’, why there were so many Korean dishes on the menu and why the serving staff have heard of Asahi beer but haven’t heard of The Asahi Shimbun, a Japanese daily newspaper that is at least 50 years old. The answer is that the Akasaka website isn’t being completely honest when it describes their Northampton branch as a Japanese restaurant. They aren’t really Japanese, although some of their menu items are clearly Japanese. Don’t let that put you off, however, as they are serving excellent food and we enjoyed our meal there very much. It cost us about £70 (inc. 10% tip) for our meal for two people including a 175ml glass of Sauvignon Blanc for my lovely wife and two 330ml bottles of Asahi Dry for me. The sushi was excellent, the edamame beans were great but we didn’t feel that the Dolsot Bibimbap (a Korean dish with loads of rice, some shredded vegetables, prawns and a fried egg on top) offered very good value for money at just under sixteen pounds. We would recommend Akasaka in Northampton and would certainly go there again, but if we want a genuinely Japanese meal, prepared and served by Japanese staff, then we will be sticking to Ginza Restaurant on Wellingborough Road in Northampton. Don’t like the way that the male members of staff at Sakura on Bridge Street speak to their female colleagues, very disrespectful, so we avoid that Japanese restaurant nowadays. Great to have a choice of three Japanese restaurants in Northampton post-pandemic, and our favourite of the three is Ginza."
