"besides eating, the best of cafe rouge at 52 low petergate, is their street front fassade. especially in the night when light and warm shine through these large windows. a look and they want to be part of what goes inside. sometimes my man and I come to different meal times. that was one of those times. he was ready for a hearty meal and I wanted nothing but coffee and a snack. his boeuf bourguignon was beautiful. fender meat and much of it. And look at the fresh beans! they could probably find better boeuf bourguignon in a high-end restaurant, but for the price and the ambiente, cafe rouge on low petergate can not beat. yes, cafe rouge is a...read more"

we have our tesco goods was so good, but we are sorry to pay full quite high prices for standard and quantity of food. personal and service well. beautiful location for Christmas ice sculptures, which is why we booked.

The starters arrived with moldy lettuce, the mains were cold but tasty. The potato gratin was burnt and a replacement was brought after we had finished. It took 45 minutes for our drinks to be served and the service was terrible.

We reserved a table with friends and family for a pre-Christmas meal and everyone enjoyed the food. The wine was also reasonably priced since we booked in advance. We found it to be good value for what we received and we would definitely return. It's a nice spot for a group gathering.

We used our Tesco vouchers to dine at this restaurant, which was fine. However, I would hesitate to pay the full, quite high prices for the standard and quantity of food offered. The staff and service were good, and the location was nice for viewing Christmas ice sculptures, which is why we made a reservation.

we were in york with my mother in law, which is and we wanted a restaurant that would offer a great choice. we have eaten in the cafe rouge and are not yet disappointed and we were not this time. friendly staff (sometimes our waiter, with whom my mother was very taken in law), and tasty eating immediately served. they were very busy and I am glad that we had booked a table, but we did not feel rushed in any way, and the personal managed to meet all the requirements of a busy restaurant and still have time for a bit of fun. I have not considered recommending this restaurant.

We were in York with my Mother in Law who is 88, and we wanted a restaurant that would offer a wide choice. We've eaten at Cafe Rouge before and haven't been disappointed and we certainly weren't this time either. Friendly, welcoming staff (particuarly our waiter who my mother in law was very taken with), and tasty food promptly served. They were very busy and I'm glad we'd booked a table, but we didn't feel rushed in any way, and the staff managed to meet all the demands of a busy restaurant and still have time for a bit of banter. I've no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.
