"Leicester Square £3.70 De Koninck The only authentic Dutch pub in London. . De Hems is located in the heart of Soho and sits next to one of the entry gates to Chinatown. The nearest tube station is Leicester square which is just a five minute walk away. . Steeped in history, this pub was rebuilt back in 1890 and was leased to a retired Dutch sea captain called Papa De Hem, hence the pub name. During World War II this pub was the unofficial headquarters of exiles of the Dutch resistance. . Architecturally this pub is absolutely stunning, the gold and window detailing are a joy. Inside the decor is traditional, there is a mural stretching down one wall depicting old Amsterdam, lots of Dutch and Belgian beer paraphernalia and even a Dutch football shirt to give you that feeling that you are somewhere continental. . I visited on St Patricks day this year on a crawl around Soho. I arrived just after 1pm and the pub was fairly quiet. As I gazed at the beer pumps I was rather stumped on what to choose. For those of you who read these reviews will know that I generally choose predominantly generic continental lager, today I fancied going off piste and took some direction from the very informative and pleasant barman. I was recommended a @dekoninck which is a Belgium beer and I really enjoyed it. On the tables you’ll find the extensive beer menu which details everything you need to know about the Dutch and Belgian beers on offer. . The Food menu offers a taste of Dutch cuisine, so if you’re hankering after a bitterballen or maybe a kaasouflees, this is the place for you. There is also a buffet menu and traditional British fayre on offer, fish chips cost £15. . @dehems_london is a fantastic pub with an amazing line up of Dutch and Belgian beer and food. This is an excellent pub or as they say in Holland “dit is een uitstekende pub” . Information correct on visiting 17/03/22"

Best place for fruit beers, the Frulli strawberry beer is the best!! Great atmosphere and great location, a must for anyone visiting London or a regular place to drop in for a drink

Atmospheric pub on the edge of Chinatown. It's the only place I've been so far where they have a beer menu, with a great choice of Dutch beer. Food is pretty amazing too. Good enough for a photo!

I've given it 5 stars because of the lively and robust atmosphere plus the Dutch and Belgian beer. Can't comment on the food. The location is ideal as a central point to launch in to Soho or central London. View menu

Great Dutch pub near Chinatown. Huge selection of beers from The Netherlands and Belgium which the very friendly staff are happy to let you taste before you choose. Excellent food the sharing platter is perfect to accompany these fine beers. Highly recommended.

I loved the ambiance of the Bar and it's very interesting selection of beers For instance, I have never had a strawberry flavoured beer before (Fruli)! As a bonus , it was great to see live Premier League football action, from their large plasma screen. The meal I had whilst watching, was pretty good as well

Great place! The staff is helpful and they fill up the place with positive energy. Me and my friends found this place by accident but thanks to Shirley I’m sure we’ll make this place our favourite meet up point! Great location to start or end your day/evening with. I would definitely recommend the place and I’m sure I’ll be back there soon with my friends View menu

A rustic pub with a lot of history. It's surprisingly spacious and has two floors, with a large selection of authentic Belgian beers, (and a few Dutch ones on tap) plus a wide variety of small Dutch dishes. At the time of visiting, the pub had large screens up to watch the weekend football, which was being shown on both floors, with two separate bars, meaning it was easy to get a good view and a drink.

This place is a gem. Wonderfully eclectic and historic dutch bar serving dutch and traditional food and an unbelievable selection of continental beers. The dutch food tastes very authentic (my wife is from the Netherlands) and the beer is amazing. We found the staff very helpful and happy to let me taste beer before purchase. Prices are very competitive for the West End. The bar is in a great location for pre/post show drinks if visiting the theater.

"The decor of the restaurant is really lovely. We were greeted as soon as we arrived. We placed our orders quite briskly. We received complimentary bread and olives, which was a nice touch. Our Bruchetta starter arrived a whole hour after we arrived, which was disappointing and far too long to wait for a cold and easy starter. The menu did not specify that the prawns on one of the bruschettas were raw! The waiter said service was slow because they were busy with Uber Eats and Deliveroo. Clearly not prioritising paying customers, who pay a 12.5% service charge, unlike online customers. Eventually, our main courses arrived. My pasta was only just cooked, so close to being undercooked and hard. They ran out of ricotta and replaced it with the tiniest amount of cheese so I asked for some more. Since ricotta was supposed to be the main ingredient of the dish. The tuna steak was lovely, and the veal could have done with a thinner breadcrumb batter. The sides, chips and zucchini, were £4.50 and very small portions for such a cheap side. So that was slightly disappointing. Overall, the pinot grigio white wine was very drinkable, and they brought tap water when we asked for it. And the whole staff were very polite. It was a shame the service was so slow, and the food could have been better for the price that it was. We also felt it was overpriced for the location it was, zone 2 London and not in the West End."
