"We were just wandering around Betwys and wanted somewhere to stop for a cup of tea etc and didn't want a fast food or posh type, full meal restuarant. This cafe is right at the end of the road, away from the main row of restuarants and wouldn't normally be an obvious choice. There are a couple of tables outside but a lot more at the side and back. There is not a great choice of food but lots of snacks and cakes and the sausage rolls were very good. The service was good and it was a comfortable place to sit and eat rather than the crowded, overpriced fast food places or the up themselves, overrated yuppy type establishments along the main row of eateries. I would certainly recommend this as a cup of tea and sausage roll type of cafe, reasonable prices and good, friendly service."

We were made to feel welcome and enjoyed a lunchtime drink with good company and chatty bar staff. Will definitely return.

I enjoyed a satisfying meal at a great value. The burger was generously sized and delicious, accompanied by tasty fries. The decor could use some refreshing, but the service was attentive. Overall, a good dining experience.

We were looking for a meal without any planning and found the two steak meals for £20 an interesting prospect, the food turned out to be, cooked as requested, reasonably well presented, perhaps a little lacking in atmosphere, but that was not a big issue. The offer was good value and seemed to be very popular. View menu

The food at this restaurant is simple yet good quality and reasonably priced. They also accommodate gluten-free diets. Menu options include lasagne, sweet and sour pork, burgers, chicken wrapped in ham, and cottage pie. For breakfast, they offer a full English breakfast, cereals, toast, fruit juices, and fruit.

I had the pate to start which I really enjoyed having been deprived of pate for many years where I have been living. My wife had soup. We both went for the lamb shank with mashed potato. Very enjoyable. the young lad behind the bar waiting was very enthusiastic and worked hard to keep us and the 4 other tables well served.

I stopped here for dinner recently and enjoyed the visit, I found the staff friendly and the food was good value and tasty too. There was some good specials and a varied menu. The hotel also has a large lounge area and a Bar and Games room at the rear of the Hotel. Well worth a stop when in Betws if you enjoy Hotel style hospitality! View menu

We have stayed here often over the years and recently. I have always managed to book a hostel room at the rear of the hotel with breakfast included, before exploring Snowdonia. The evening meals we had were hot well presented and reasonably priced. It was busy, and we were eating at a very small round bar type table which was not ideal. The food/drinks and service were very good. A major booking factor is the free parking at the rear of the hotel, and access to the hotels restaurant/bar areas, even if you are in the hostel accomodation. Pleasant visit and polite service, a good experience.

We stopped by for a quick lunch on a Saturday with our dog. The bar had a quirky layout, with formal seating alongside a large children's play area. It was quite quiet, with only one other couple present. We ordered two chicken Caesar salads, but instead received garlic chicken salads with cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, onions, etc. in a honey mustard dressing. While the salads were tasty, they bore no resemblance to Caesar salads and there was no explanation for the difference. Priced at £7.95 each, we were satisfied with our meal but probably wouldn't return due to the limited menu options and eclectic decor.

"Whenever I get the inclination to write a review it’s usually because it’s so good and I want to shout about my experience to everyone… however this is not my usual 5* recommendation! As locals we have visited this cafe on a few occasions for breakfast or a coffee stop. It’s a great location, nice decor, dog friendly and delicious food. What’s not to like? Well, the staff, or more specifically the owner! She lacks any customer service skills, she smiles through gritted teeth, orders her staff around while she stands observing (or waiting for an argument . Each time we’ve visited she’s had an issue with something. Once she argued with me because I asked for my latte to be served in a cup rather than a tall glass. She proceeded to try and educate me on coffee making (I’m barista trained ! She reluctantly gave me it to me in a mug with a jug of extra milk which wouldn’t fit into the mug anyway! More recently we arrived, it was quiet, and chose to sit in the window (the largest table as we had our dog and didn’t want him to be in the way. She rushed over and demanded we sat at another table because she “couldn’t afford for us to take up a larger table”. We moved without an issue but she was very confrontational (as always and made the rest of our dining experience uncomfortable. So uncomfortable in fact that despite being ravenous we almost didn’t order. The cafe remained quiet throughout our time there, plenty of empty tables and yet she proceeded to use the larger window table to accommodate her staff, herself and a friend who popped in. How is that fair? So my advice to you as a fellow catering/ hospitality manager is… Learn from your Trip Advisor feedback, Book yourself on a free customer service course and lead by example and if you are worried about costs reduce the number of staff. 5 staff on duty in a cafe that seats approx 25 people at full capacity is not needed. Maybe the owner should put her feet up at home and let the lovely younger people do their thing. They all look so nervous around her and are almost too afraid to speak. I’m sure they’d do a far better job without her monitoring their every move. Even the Chef (her husband maybe? looks petrified of her!! Certain people are not cut out for customer facing roles and she is one of them! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read any of these reviews as she’s been like this since my first visit 5 years ago!! What a shame. This place could be a thriving business and a welcoming village cafe but I’m sure her confrontational attitude and unwelcoming nature put people off from returning. Such a shame as the food and coffee are delightful"
