"The dining experience was fantastic, it was refreshing to have a variety of meal options instead of just a token pasta dish. My partner is a meat eater, so we typically choose restaurants that offer both options, and dining here was enjoyable. I am a vegetarian, and I ordered the vegan meatballs with linguine in a tomato sauce, followed by a warm chocolate fondant with whipped cream for dessert. The staff was exceptional, very attentive to our needs. They seated us at a table with a great view and made sure my dietary requirements were met. The location is stunning, situated at the harbor of Paignton with water views. The restaurant also adhered to COVID-19 safety measures."

The noodles with smoke tofu are so delicious. I love the banana blossom when in the mood for fried food.

The smoky tofu noodles are incredibly tasty. I especially enjoy the banana blossom when I'm in the mood for some fried food.

Vegan options are clearly marked and appear to be well though out rather than just a token vegan burger thrown on the menu. I had the vegan fish and chips made from banana blossom. Tartare sauce was really good, I have come to the conclusion that I just don’t like banana blossom so no reflection on HL.

This is definitely the best vegan menu I have come across at a non-vegan restaurant in Torbay. I tried the fish and chips, made with banana blossom, and was pleasantly surprised by how fishy it tasted. My partner had the tikka masala which we both enjoyed. We were too full to try any desserts, but they sounded delicious as well.

The restaurant clearly indicates vegan options on the menu, which is great to see instead of just having a token vegan burger. I tried the vegan fish and chips made from banana blossom and the tartare sauce was delicious. Ultimately, I realized that I am just not a fan of banana blossom, so this is not a reflection on the restaurant as a whole.

Lovely setting on the harbour upstairs dining area has views over the harbour one side and beach the other. Not a huge range of choice, but what they did offer was done well and a little different eg falafel wrap was made with beetroot falafel, tasty roasted pepper soup, and the desserts were outstanding. The vanilla pod Cheesecake was incredibly creamy, while the poached pineapple was really unusual. Updated from previous review on 2021 10 02

The restaurant is situated in a beautiful location overlooking the harbor on the upper floor. One side offers views of the harbor while the other overlooks the beach. Although the menu selection is not extensive, the dishes that were available were well-made and unique. For example, the falafel wrap was accompanied by a flavorful roasted pepper soup, and the desserts were outstanding. The vanilla pod cheesecake was exceptionally creamy, and the poached pineapple was a delightful and unusual treat.

Fantastic food, so nice to have a few options for meals rather than just a token pasta dish. My partner is a meat eater so we tend to go to places that sell both options and the food here was lovely. I am vegetarian but had the vegan meatballs with linguine in a tomato sauce, followed by warm chocolate brownie with clotted cream for dessert. OMG so good! The staff were fantastic, very attentive. Went out of their way to get us a table with good views and ensured my dietary needs were catered for. The location is beautiful, on Paignton harbour with views over the water. 100% covid safe too! We had a great experience at the St Austell brewery pub, located in a beautiful spot right on the harbor with plenty of outdoor seating. One thing that stood out to us was the vegan option on the kids menu - vegan Quorn sausages - which was a rare find and saved us from having to buy expensive adult meals for our vegan daughter. The main lunch menu also had a couple of clearly marked vegan options, such as banana blossom "fish" and chips, and roasted cauliflower and hummus flatbread. I decided to try the banana blossom fish and chips, which came with mushy peas and tartar sauce, and it was excellent. Overall, we had a lovely meal at this pub.

"From the off, everything was bang on point. The warmth of the welcome, being taken straight to our table and offered water and an aperitif promptly. We, a party of three, opted for the set lunch, which offers very good value for money. £29.50 for two courses, £35 for three, with two options for each course. Two of us opted for the baked Roscoff onion with pearl barley. Simple ingredients but beautifully cooked with a truly sublime brown onion sauce of such intensity, it lifted an already lovely plate of food to another level. The other person had the ponzu cured mackerel which she pronounced lovely but she had serious food envy over the onion dish. The main courses were grilled hake, which again was sauced to perfection and a grilled bavette with a vegetable medley and a pea? puree and a meat jus. We added a small dish of dauphinois at £5 which complimented everything very well. We drank a good and reasonably priced Rioja Blanco. No room for dessert sadly. This restaurant is not cheap but there is a difference between cost and value and The Elephant offers very good value with the set lunch; it allows you to sample really very good cooking at a price that will not break the bank. The normal a la carte menu is around double the price but on looking at what this offered, I would say that it again offers good value for money, being a step up in choice with more expensive ingredients. This is a serious restaurant. Go there. You will not be disappointed."
