"Well we ordered whitebait prawn cocktail starters gammon which came with chips salad steak ale pie with chips peas plus ordered a portion onion rings. Staff then informed us no whitebait shouldn’t have been on the menu bearing in mind it’s a proper printed menu. So ordered salt pepper chicken. Cocktail full of prawns but bread that came with it was 2 small seeded bread crusts part dry soggy. The salt pepper chicken good portion for a starter. The gammon was large tasty but pie had two bits of pastry on the top not sure what pastry it was. Meat gravy very salty chips brill. Onion rings never turned up so told them to take off the bill. Would we eat there again no but would pop in for a pint."

Have not visited for ages but popped in for a pint on way home after walk. Really pleased to see it buzzing and busy. So will start to use again. You need to be a dog lover though

The reformation continues!! New manager in place and hopefully the only way is up. This pub is in a prime position and needed to improve. That’s two recent visits now and both visits went ok

A warm welcome shown up to our room. Lovely little kitchenette and sofa (needs a clean) four poster room. Lovely comfy bed and lively and warm. Food black and blue burgers yummy. Breakfast served by really lovely chef. All in really good value.

a group of four of us enjoyed a beautiful meal in jockey. the steak pipe was very tasty, and the right chips were just like my mother used to. my friends enjoyed their bark burger and smetterling huhn, clean teller round. good selection at desserts too.

Visited 3 times over our short stay in Tideswell, friendly, DOG FRIENDLY! Good beers, warm and welcoming. Third visit was for Sunday lunch, well worth the price, all fresh ingredients absolutely delicious. Excellent pub. We will definitely be visiting again…often!

It was a beautiful day and Tideswell is a beautiful.village so all that was needed was a great pub to provide food and the Horse and Jockey was all that and more. Friendly and helpful staff and good choices of Gluten Free meals made it perfect for us. Will definitely be going back

Good pub, we arrived too late to try the food but the beer was good. Old world pub with good atmosphere. I appreciate it’s a local but not sure why they insist on sitting around the bar so it’s hard for anyone else to get served see the pumps. Enjoyed a few beers and tried other pubs in the village

Ummmmm disappointing. Female bar server unfriendly and does not top up your drinks and thus very surly if you ask for this to be done . Has she not seen the recent survey about people being shortchanged ??? If this continues we won’t be coming back. Staff training in customer service required particularly bearing in the mind the summer is coming . Maybe hospitality is not the ideal job.

We called for Sunday lunch and received two lovely plates full of piping hot, tasty food. We had the beef option, it was lean and plentiful. The veg was roasted carrots, cauliflower cheese and petite pois. The mash was amazing, smooth, creamy and a hint of mustard. Toped off with roast potatoes, a stuffing ball and a beautifully made Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was really good too, maybe could have done with a little bit more but that's personal taste, I do like my food swimming!! The atmosphere is really good too, we ate in the main bar next to a log fueled range. Staff and other customers were very friendly and welcoming and the beer is excellent.
