"Old school cuisine from Lucania (Basilicata, Southern Italy), traditional food, too traditional and served on a plate without any care. We were sitting outside, in the middle of a busy avenue, surrounded by parked cars and urea scents. The ingredients and the products on the various charcuteries boards seemed authentic and fresh too, but when I spotted the classic “insalata di mare” (those preserved fish mix with olive oil) it felt like 40 years were never passed from the 80’s. The food in general resulted heavy, greasy and difficult to approach. The location is indeed stuck in time, with wooden decorations, aquariums, mirrors, old lamps and a huge open refrigerator for the fish, right in front of the entrance. The staff however was friendly and kind, while the selection of Southern Italian white wines was nicely assembled even though with some missing names. Grade: 66/100"

Absolutely Italian and awesome quality. No design, just great local cuisine. When in Rome go where only the locals are feeling happy.

Want to try a really valuable gastronomic experience? Il Gabbiano is the place you are looking for. Unlike the tourists restaurants in the city centre, you'll find there excellent seafood and a great variety of Italian wines. I discovered this place searching in tripadvisor and my friends and I were finally fully satisfied with the overall quality: exquisite food, good wine, kind service and fair price. Please note the restaurant is at a walking distance from Pigneto (a fashionable area, not far from Termini station).
