"this restaurant has the most honest Japanese food I ever had outside japans. I am a Canadian and come from vancouver (where we have a great Japanese influence), traveled a lot through japan and I can now tell them that this really hearty Japanese food comes as close as possible. Japanese eating is not just about sushi people! So for those looking for sushi, they go somewhere else. this is more like Japanese home cooking, which translates humble ingredients, culture and presentation. for a city like a little of super chic / hip, pretentious Japanese etablissements ... this is not one of them ... it is a small fund pit of a place! I think I have circled loudly when I first set a foot in and looked around in the facility. I had the grilled aal and my man had the homemade bark stew from J-Bar as main dish. the Takoyaki balls were super delicious! all foods are served in traditional Japanese tone/ceramic/wood spoons - my aal was even served in a traditional Unagi snack box! sure, this place is somewhat more expensive and slower with orders than their "running sushi" next door, but please consider the fact that it is literally two people behind in the kitchen that prepare everything from ground to eat. It's worth it. I really think that the people who have written bad critikens here have to go to japan or watch a YouTube video, as a Japanese soup/pot is prepared there. it is a love work. and J-Bar is really exactly that, a hearty matter! ps: ach, and on a hot summer day as today (30 c grad) get the "frozen beer"!"

they refused to give me a table for a person (yes, some people travel alone!), with the foundation that the restaurant is full.

Highly recommend, delicious typical Japanese food, a tiny restaurant with an amiable atmosphere we were here already several times and will come back, for sure. View menu

Amazing food. It is an ode to the senses. It goes beyond and above. I feel people should really appreciate and cherish this wonderful place way more. It is really frustrating because people tend to oppose to different flavors pretty boring). It made me sad to see a mid restaurant next door full of people. Each of the plates we tried were wonderful!!!

the best thing about the J-Bar is that they serve kirin ichiban bier from the barrel – it is brewed in freesing at dunes for the European market. they serve typical small Japanese tapas like dishes (tsumami), also their hot pot kitchen (nabe) is always popular. the local is quite small and always full, reservation absolutely recommended. faster service, but the kitchen is small, so it can sometimes take a little long time to be served.

we should have known better: if restaurant critics are proud to be able to distinguish between sushi and sashimi, their advice is not reliable. And “Izakaya” and “Bar” mean nothing else than kneipe. in fact, the only authentic of Japanese kitsch, mens and the Kirin beer. but actually there are no competent chefs: fish is simply roasted on the skin, without seasoning apart from something ginger or teriyaki sauce (thun fish grilled to complete dryness), sweet is without any taste, otopus inside spicy outside like paper. and whether a hot pot is worth 20 euro money, you can try out cash! We ordered clay pot monk fish (20€ and large pho (13€ this evening. Both taste really good, even by Toronto standards. The soup on the pho noodle was tasty. I think the beef can be cut a bit thinner and served medium/rare rather than well-done. The monkfish was the shinning star, with a really yummy sauce. The downsides would be the portion sizes when comparing to Toronto standard. (The large pho was not that large and the pot only had few small pieces of fish. but i think that it would be unfair to make the comparison. So, without judging the portion size, I think the place is quite decent.

on this special evening we actually went to a Vietnamese restaurant that we had found at google. this was too crowded, so we decided to just go into a certain direction to see what we could find... we never thought we would find such a good place. we sat in the restaurant and noticed that there was a muddy machine and a frozen beer was delivered to people. we had to try! So they pour the beer in as usual, but the head comes from a muddy machine, I must say it's a bizarre experience to drink one of them, but I could get behind it because it keeps her drink more cold. this was just the beginning. I ordered the tuna sashimi at the beginning and the chicken teriyaki as the main dish. eating was...
