"Arrived on a wet, February day to be greeted by a pleasant lady who pointed to menus and asked me to pick them up and take them to our chosen table, which I did. We then waited and waited for some further acknowledgment which didn’t come. I therefore took our orders, went to the bar and ordered our food. My hubby opted for fish finger sandwich which he said was poor, my son had ragu lasagne which had large, chewy pieces of meat in it (he held one piece up to show us and it wasn’t good! and I had a scotch egg with fries mine was ok but the fries were just warm. £46 for three of us which wouldn’t have been bad if the food was good but, alas, that’s not the case."

This is a lovely pub with a great atmosphere and an extensive drinks menu.

Friendly staff with good service, food was very disappointing would not recommend eating in the hotel. Over priced as well no wonder the restaurant wasn't so busy compared to others in the town .

£22 for a dbbl disaronno and coke and a dbbl Spiced Rum and ginger. No wonder they 've got such a lovely light up car park barrier. Total robbery. Don 't bother. Over priced rubbish. Empty restaurant full of ' reserved ' tables so had to have our drinks with the rats in the alley behind. View menu

My wife and I along with a couple of friends called on a quiet lunchtime. Our order was taken without any fuss even thought we were a little early. The service was exemplary and the food was very delicious. The menu has since changed and the liver is no longer on, a major disappointment.

My wife and I along with friends enjoyed a super meal here. Three of the group had the liver and one had the beef and mushroom pie. The liver was excellent although they were a little stingy with the mash. The pie was also excellent served with tasty chunky chips. All meals had a good selection of vegetables. View menu

The outdoor seating area was decent, with plenty of sunlight. We were at the restaurant for 90 minutes and I never saw the tables being washed or cleaned. The people sitting near us had their dog on the table eating their food the whole time they were there, and the bartender came out to collect glasses without saying anything. I might go back for a drink because the location was nice, but I would never eat there after what I witnessed today.

Didn't book the resteraunt but we were able to get a table. Service was good but unfortunately for the price our meal was not good. One came out over cooked, I pointed this out and then they sent exactly the same out to my friend. The food seemed to be pre prepared, one of the starters was still semi frozen. These were knocked off the bill. Atmosphere was good for a drink with a wide selection of beers. Will call again for a drink but not food.

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
