"One thing I find about food in Bavaria is they tend to be very salty. So if you can get used to this, like I do by drinking the beer (called Helles, to mean Clear I think, as opposed to Cloudy then all is superb...from there. If not, maybe ask for less salt. This place is run by a cheerful lady, and we were served with this little rolls which are perfect for the pasta sauce. The food was really tasty. After several days of heavy German meaty food, I was looking forward to pasta in tomato sauce. Superb as it turned out. I do not like the American style pasta where the sauce is flooding the plate and looks like it comes straight out of a ketchup bottle. This is not that. The place is run by a cheerful, very switched-on lady."

We had pizzas here after a long hike. Food was good, price was fitting and the service was fast, just what we needed.

Went eating dinner with my sister. Very friendly staff, tasty starters and pizza! It’s a tiny place, you can also sit outside. Service is polite and quick. The Penne Arrabiata were great and also the Bruschetta! We loved it!

We were thinking a Gaststatte or something for dinner, but the Mittenwald brewery across the street was closed (rest day on wednesday in July, why not La Locanda was tasty, though, and not too expensive. Friendly staff and good service.

When you see the outside of the building, your first thoughts are that it can't be a very good place to eat. But, once inside, the atmosphere is beautifully appointed and enchanting. The menu is well rounded and the pizza was pleasing. One of those.. must see places when visiting Mittenwald.

We spent weeks in Mittenwald and La Laconda became our favourite Italian. We came here three times and the food was consistently good (I particularly liked the Spaghetti with olive oil, garlic, and peperoncino very simple, but very tasty) and my other half...loved their pizzas. The service was friendly and the prices were reasonable.

After a second visit to La Locanda, we have only positive remarks. It may look plain from the outside, but inside is delightful. Service has been excellent, prices inexpensive to moderate, with a menu to satisfy just about anyone. We've tried the pasta arrabiata, pasta...with garlic, oil and pepper, as well a pizza. All sure to please. The mozerella bruschetta is a great, and very reasonably priced. For Italian in Mittenwald, La Locanda is our go-to place.

Most restaurants in Mittenwald aren't open very late so when we saw this one open we went in. Since it was almost closing time, we were the only ones in the restaurant. The owner welcomed us in and didn't rush us. She told us how...she and her boyfriend opened the restaurant. When we were finished eating she talked to us for a while. The food was great, and the company was excellent as well. This restaurant is a little outside the town's center but highly recommended!

Prix raisonnables, accueil gentil.

"I admit to being biased. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the options for German food are not as extensive as I would like, and I'm surprised that these days they haven't yet found a way to charge you for water and...cutlery. When I dine at a place like Postkeller, the value is just off the charts. There is almost a full menu of dinner options that cost less than an appetizer at some of the restaurants I visit back home. The portions at Postkeller are quite generous, and the food is very flavorful and delicious. And then there is the beer. Oh, the beer. In the San Francisco Bay area it is hard to find a taproom or brewpub where you can find a pint of draft craft beer for under often than not, you find a ounce pour of some beverage with odd fruit and spice flavors for At Postkeller you will have a wide range of beer choices for well under Euros for a half liter, and a number of options for under Euros. If you come between PM you can get a full liter of one of their beers for Euros. There are some good options to choose from. My wife and I went the other night. I tried two of their Edel Märzen beers. They were Euros each. My wife had the local Mittenwald Dunkel. Just terrific beers. My wife decided on a lighter meal, or so she thought. The omelette with mushrooms and cheese had to be at least three eggs. It came with potatoes and a side salad. This was under Euros. I had the Schweinshaxe (pork hock) with an extra salad. Those two items together were under Euros or less than at current exchange rates. You wouldn't be able to touch that price in the Bay Area. Places that do offer the dish back home don't produce a meal nearly as good. The total tab was under Euros. You are hard pressed to get two burritos and two agua frescas in the Bay Area for this amount. It is just a phenomenal value. I've spent over on dinners for two at home that weren't half as satisfying. There are many other restaurants in Mittenwald that serve similar food. I have been to quite a few of them. All of the ones I have tried serve excellent food at a similar price point, so if you are in the mood for traditional Bavarian food, you have many options. I will just say that all of them are excellent, and it is one of the reasons I have come to Mittenwald for over fifty years. I'm hoping I can make it over years."

"We have learned that quite a large fraction of the restaurants and businesses in Mittenwald take their vacation in April or May. As a result, many of the top rated restaurants were not open. We got lucky with Gaststatte am Kurpark. It reopened on our last full day on Mittenwald. The dining room was largely empty when we arrived, although there was a table of regular customers in the back. The waitress was very friendly, delivered menus, took a drink order, and then brought us our drinks. Since the menu is quite extensive and in German, it took some time to translate the options from German into English and explain all of them to my wife. After a considerable wait, which the waitress apologized for, we ordered. The Tyroler Speckknödel soup was something I wanted to try. It was good, but not something I would likely order again. The dumpling was a bit on the dense side for my taste. My wife ordered one of the beef steaks. It was very nicely prepared, very flavorful, and accompanied by crispy frites and a green bean and bacon vegetable dish. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I similarly enjoyed the pork schnitzel, which was done gypsy style, with a mushroom cream sauce, and accompanied by farfalle that was a bit overcooked for my taste, but still quite good. The mixed salad that accompanied the dish had nicely contrasting elements and was quite tasty. Overall, I thought both of the lunch dishes were nicely prepared. As we lunched, some local residents came and were having a wedding celebration. It became clear that this restaurant has a strong local following. Service could have been a bit more attentive, but considering that this was the first day back, I can understand that there were a few glitches and an urge to spend a little time with regular customers. I suspect that if we came back tomorrow that that aspect would have improved. As it is, I hope to return during my next visit to Mittenwald and feel comfortable recommending this restaurant to anyone wanting a lunch or dinner of local Bavarian dishes. It was also one of the few we have dined out that had fish offerings. There are numerous beers available, and also some wine offerings"
